The road outside this Havelli is hayhem but once you step into the driveway peace and calm await you! Mr Singh very attentive, interesting character with lots of family history and the staff are attentive but not pestering. The first floor rooms are magnificent, huge, stately and beautifully furnished. Bathroom to match any luxury hotel! Interesting local dishes at breakfast...

What a beautiful place. You enter the hustle and bussle of Jaipur and enter what is essentially it's own little tranquil oasis. The family who own and run the honestly are wonderful. Explaining what is around, how the place is run and offering you delightful tea on arrival. The rooms aren't rooms...they are palaces. We stayed in this huge 2...

A scheduled stay as part of a wider trip in India, we had the absolute pleasure of staying at the Dera Mandawa. Our suite was huge and in a wonderful traditional style; the food was homely, tasty and well cooked; the staff were so friendly and Mr Durga Singh (the owner) was an exceptional host. Our stay coincided with Holi...

Rooms are clean and quiet. Breakfasts in the courtyard are good and filling - lots of fruit, chai or coffee eggs/toast or chapati. They found a very nice place for us to have the yoga class we had arranged. Courtyard was filled with birds and plants. Close to everything in the busy city. The owners are a lovely couple who...

All the great reviews are true. Our family of 11 was spoiled by the service, food and accommodations. Our hosts went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and also shared many stories about the property and history of the area. Each room has its special charm with modern amenities. The relaxing nooks and courtyard were perfect gathering and...

Our stay here was part of the bespoke tour of northern India arranged by Imagine India and what a gem they have found here. The owner Durga Singhji welcomed as on entry to the tranquillity of the main courtyard and over tea and biscuits we were given a brief history of the hotel (something he is rightly proud of) whilst...

What a haven of peace, tranquillity and luxury. Jaipur is quite mad. So much noise, traffic, car horns, crazy drivers, cows......everywhere. But this is a true gem in the crown of hotels in Jaipur. If you have see the Best Marigold Hotel it was filmed in Jaipur. You see all the same locations and the real 'thing' is so much...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A lesser-known fact about Rajasthani monuments is that rarely were forts, palaces and havelis (large residences) constructed at one go. Each generation added new wings, rooms and arches in an architectural style prevalent during its time. DeraMandawa has also seen such an evolution, as the Mandawa family constantly kept extending the residence over the years. Thakur Durga Singh, the current custodian of DeraMandawa is a keen observer of history, culture, religion, current affairs, and is a bank of knowledge so vast that he has a point of view on anything under the sun. He is what one could call a modern traditionalist, actively seeking the use of modern technology and methods to support the principles of traditional living. The inquisitive can have endless conversations with him on a number of his projects like rain -water harvesting, biogas plant, solar heating and, even, healthy cooking. He would be more than delighted to share his experiences with you. ... more   less
