This was our first time at a yoga retreat, although my husband and I have been practicing ashtanga yoga now for several years. We really didn't know what to expect especially as it was our first trip to India. We booked a one week course with Joey Miles, who had been recommended to us. We were not disappointed. Joey is...

We spent a week practicing Ashtanga Yoga in Purple Valley with Joey Miles. It was a wonderful week. Purple Valley is one of best food experience I had in my life time! They even had a cooking workshop with Ms Mani. She was very patient and explaining cooking principles of South Indian cooking. I also bought a book of hers,...

It was a perfect way to celebrate the New Year! A lovely spot in a beautiful city, Goa. If you want to forget the world and discover yourself, this is the place. Even a workohokic would forget the about the stress and just be- that's what this place does to you. The teachers are the best of the lot and...

Really enjoyed my 2 week stay here. Great for anyone who wants to deepen their yoga practice while enjoying great all-inclusive veggie cuisine, comfortable clean accommodation, nice garden and pool. Little extras like movie nights, music and cooking classes were also appreciated.

A must for any Ashtangi, fabulous accommodation, food and world class teachers. Spent a blissful two weeks of yoga, relaxing by the pool and hitting the beach. First class service and i can't wait to return.

Even though this sounds like a mixed review-if youre looking for excellent Ashtanga instruction & leadership (Joey Miles & Donna Miles-UK) were top notch. The afternoon workshops were also very good. The Miles have evident expertise and dedication and great teaching skills. The masseur, Natalie was worthwhile. Purple V. are not expert in welcoming hospitality. When I arrived, no one...

The YOGA was world class- the teachers were really very inspiring. I probably recommend purple valley for those serious about yoga although this particular course did offer beginner classes along with the traditional Mysore style classes. The FOOD which was mostly vegan/ vegetarian was absolutely amazing and completely inspired me to become a vegetarian! The ROOMS were simple, clean and...

We stayed here in January 2013 and thoroughly enjoyed our yoga teachings. Most of the Western staff are volunteers who, we understand, work at the centre in exchange for access to the yoga courses. As such, we found them to be incredibly relaxed, welcoming and charming....must be due to the healthy lifestyle and yogi perspective. The food was fresh and...

I think there are 2 different things to look at when it comes to Purple Valley: 1) the yoga and 2) the living arrangements. The yoga was truly great, but then again I probably made (through luck or otherwise) the right choice of teacher... All the teachers that come to Purple Valley are great, but each has their own style...

“Rooms away from the street side are quieter. Ask for a room with balcony.”

“Bring ear plugs. While it is very quiet for an Indian location, it is still in India so anticipate occasional barking dogs and beeping horns on little road alongside the property.”

“Be forewarned about barking dogs at night and yes, there is a canine caste call at dawn , but its the neighbors- out of their control. There are also monkeys on the roof nearby and random moos punctuating your day. The bird calls are spectacular.I brought ear plugs but did not use them. You are in a suburban jungle. Some rooms have balconies.”

“There is a lot of noise from the outside (eg. barking dogs + other animals), but you cannot avoid that in India... Savasana House has by far more upscale rooms than the other houses. You should opt for those if you book early enough.”

“Choose a room in the new orange palace, I usually stay in one of the old cottages but they are more basic than the orange palace. I dont mind that though as they are more private. Dont forget this is India and things are done differently there, once again I find it all charming and rejeuvinating.”
