This historic hotel has a magnificent ante-bellum lobby when you enter. The hotel is actually divided into two sections -- the historic part and the new tower. I tried the historic part, but was placed in a terrible third floor room that faced a gable roof section about ten feet away. Room was tiny, dark and dreary. I advised the overworked desk clerk about the problem, and was then assigned a beautiful modern room in the tower with floor to ceiling windows. The next day another desk clerk said the historic rooms are fine on the 5th floor and above. FYI: Valet parking is about $25. No street parking available.

Beautiful property, especially inside/common area. Food at the bar was fantastic and well worth the value. While the room can be curtained off really dark, the design is a bit sparse and outdated. Not very well cleaned either: carpet is sticky, and dust on surface. What's unforgivable however, was the front desk staff's service and attitude. They gave us vouchers for breakfast in the restaurant. No one at the restaurant told us that the vouchers excluded the buffet breakfast, they just sat us down and told us to hit the buffet. There was no indication what the voucher is actually for either. We happened to be on a rush, so we picked up a couple of waffles and a slice of bacon, for which they charged us the full buffet price for 2 people. The front desk manager refused to revert the charge, told me that there was nothing she would do. I called Marriott's Bonvoy line for assistance - she refused Marriott's explanation on my behalf. During check out, she suddenly asked me: "I can revert the charges if you'd like" . I would have dispute the credit card charges anyway, but yea...facepalm indeed. A very disappointing, humiliating experience that could have been easily avoided.

I am a historic preservationist at heart, so staying at this historic property was wonderful for me. We stayed in the tower and even though those rooms were added later and are not as old as the ones in the original section, they were handled properly. The decor is classic and walks the line between historic and modern very well. Our suite had a beautiful view of the buildings all lit up at night. The walls are nice and thick, so you don't hear every little sound from your neighbors. The Trellis Room for breakfast every day was sheer joy. The staff there - Hostesses, Olga and Valerie and Servers, Jennifer and Ashley were so genuinely warm and kind, we looked forward to having breakfast with them every day. The staff was great about wearing masks. I wish the clientele would have done a better job of that. There were a few hand sanitizer dispensers, but not many. The one by the bank of elevators to our tower was empty and we told the front desk staff. It never did get re-filled. The one down side is the parking! Since it is right in the heart of the business district, they require valet parking for $21.66/night. Your other option is to walk one block and park in a garage for $16.00/night. We chose to do that because we were staying quite a few nights. After 5:00pm on Friday nights up until early Monday morning, you can street park for free. Any other time, these spaces have meters. I also walked to the Carnival Museum in about 10 minutes. It was a simple walk in a safe area.

You would never tell from the outside but inside this place is exquisite. And right in town where you can walk to a number of local restaurants. We only stayed a couple nights so we couldn't enjoy much for amenities. I'll be coming here again.

I’ve stayed into many ‘renovated’ hotels where everything including the bathtub had a fresh coat of paint. This was done right. The bath was crisp, clean and modern. Service was excellent from attending to small room repairs to valet services. We also liked the convenience of attached restaurants and bars. It’s comfortable there so you might as well stay in.
