With their own private plane pickup from Nausori or Nadi, this resort is 10 minutes by plane form Nausori airport. The view of the island from the air is amazing and when u on ground the ride and scenery starts to get even better. You arrive at reception welcomed by friendly staff with the welcome song. check in and entry to the room is hassle free. The rooms are private, spacious and outdoor shower like having a bath in the forest. The lawn from the room to the beach gives lots of private space and kids play area. White sandy beach in a marine protected reef area is amazing. U wake to to see birds calling, waves hitting the shore and turtles swimming nearby. The food is something to look forward to. Every meal is a piece of art, Amazing and delicious every time with surprise menu everyday, with every meal. The Mexican themed dinning with blend of Fijian culture makes dining an experience on its own. This is the only island that has deer so you get treated to deer meat as well, and that's an experience to look forward to. The staff are amazing and helpful every time even in this difficult times. The GM and head chef are best we have seen in Fiji and with the team this is a 5 star place.

It was our first visit to Fiji so not so sure what to expect and having paid a lot of money for our private island resort our hopes were high. We were not disappointed. From our arrival everyone was warm and friendly and the service was fantastic. Special mention goes to Lendua, Waisake, Nina, Monika and Henry! The hotel and island are kept fantastically natural and clean with local people employed. The food was amazing and we tasted things we’ve never had before. I went fishing one day and caught a few barracuda all of which went to the island community.
If you want a special private holiday and looked after impeccably, then this is THE place to visit. With a maximum of 20 guests you are never going to be crowded and with the spa and lots of water sports to keep you occupied this makes for a great holiday choice! From the moment you arrive and then leave to hotel staff singing hello/ farewell to you it all makes for a very special private island experience not to missed.

My partner Cindi and I are regular visitors to Fiji. We have visited over 20 resorts in Fiji, some several times.

This was our second visit to WAKAYA and we are already checking flights for our third.
The staff, led by Monica the assistant manager, were more than helpful.
Nothing was too much for them and our holiday there was their utmost criteria.
The dive shop crew, the food and beverages, guest services...everything was well above expectations. The diving was spectacular.

For example, Wakaya has many miles of beaches and rainforest to explore. Cindi and I were held up on a hike along the beaches and were surprised to see that Monica had sent out a boat to look for us to make sure we were safe.

Fiji has a lot of lovely places with different attractions for different people's tastes.
If you want the real FIJI come to WAKAYA.
Superb beaches, awesome diving, fantastic sunsets, beautiful rainforests. Great food. Above all....great people!!!

Wakaya is a bit more expensive than other places, but it is worth every penny!

The private transfers to the island are especially fantastic as this means less time on the mainland and more time where you want to be.

Wakaya is an amazing resort! The staff are extremely welcoming and make you feel like family, the island is spectacular, the food is so fresh and to die for, and the atmosphere couldn't be more peaceful.

We just had our wedding at Wakaya and it was an unforgettable, special week. The resort was able to accommodate our wedding parties (18 of us) and we filled the resort. Thus making the week feel extremely intimate since walking around the grounds or on activities/excursions, we only saw our group.

Wakaya went above and beyond planning for the event as well. They initially asked for some decoration inspiration but beyond that, they handled the entire setup for the ceremony along with themed nights -- well surpassing our expectations.

Couldn't recommend Wakaya more for your next vacation.

We hosted our Wedding at Wakaya and it couldn’t have been more perfect! The most beautiful location, incredible food, and wonderful staff.

Since it’s a small hotel; the staff to guest ratio is very high so you are well taken care of!

We had a full week of activities and the team at Wakaya ensured that everything went smoothly and helped manage all of our wedding vendors for us. 10/10 recommend!

Plus if you’re a scuba diver, there is no better place to see mantas - we saw up to 7 per dive- absolutely incredible!

We can’t wait to come back!

Love your locals just got real at Wakaya. From the plane trip to the boat ride, Wakaya never ceased to amaze me. The service and hospitality is unmatched in Fiji. Highly recommended for a relaxing, laid-back vacation/staycation.

Wow!! Where do I even begin to explain what a wonderful experience Wakaya had offered to our group.. We were the first local group to have visited the Wakaya Spa and Club and our whole trip was just so incredible.. From the beauty of the island to the amazing food and down to the hospitality of the staff - we enjoyed everything and every moment.. Monika, Ledua, Nina, Henry Just to name a few provided an exceptional service to us locals and treated is just like any one of their usual clientele who are mostly millionaires and celebrities.. highly recommended!!

The Wakaya Club. Okay, how do I begin? First, I think this property is probably the BEST facility in all of Fiji. It is welcoming and private and intimate. There are only nine casitas and the caliber of the guests is top notch and respectful of others' privacy. As a result, some of the most wealthy, influential and famous people in America, even the world, will most likely be there during your stay. While we were there, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher arrived.

We thoroughly enjoyed the facilities and the breadth of activities available. We dove twice every day, and the staff met our timetable. The dive staff was very accommodating in this regard, and the diving was some of the best we've done. BEAUTIFUL! Also, they afford two private reserved beaches complete with gourmet picnics. These are totally secluded, private beaches where you can be assued of absolutely NO interruptions. We took full advantage of this privacy. The spa facility is also impressive and newly updated. Mrs. Gilmore, the owner, has spared no expense at making the spa expiernce absolutely perfect!

Before I give you my impression of the "issues" with this property, I want to comment in defense of some of the other comments I have read by other posters. The casitas, to me, were in tip-top shape and well appointed. The bathrooms were in very nice condition and more than ample for my needs. I enjoyed the surround sound music throughout the building, including the lanai. And, we really liked the outdoor shower.

My concern with this property, however, is that small details in service are neglected. For instance on one of our picnics we specifically asked for two bags of ice and we were told they were in the ice box, but upon investigation when we finally got to the picnic beach we found that there weren't any bags of ice to be found. On another occassion, we asked for champagne and cheese to be delivered to our casita at a specific time, but the staff failed to perform. Similarly, we were never given updated and fresh soap or shampoo without having to specifically ask for more. And when we told the wait staff that we didn't want specific items on our plate when placing our orders at dinner or lunch, those items showed up on the plates anyway -- as if to defy our requests. These are only a few examples of the many we experienced. While these may seem like puny, little concerns they mean a lot when the management and property-owner tout the facility as one of the best in the world.

While this property has many, many amenities that put it in the upper echelon, we have to say that the lack of attention and follow-through with minute details makes all the difference. Until its staff learns how to cater to this level of patron, we must request that it be denied the status of "top". It is shameful, because there is really no excuse for the lack of attention to these types of details.

When one is on vacation and spending the type of dollar that this property commands, the last thing any patron wants to do is to have to worry about the details. Unfortunatley, at this property, you can't count on your requests being put into practice exactly as you have requested them to be. We'd still recommend this property to anyone wanting to visit Fiji, but we'd warn you to second guess the staff.

The Wakaya Club had a beautiful website, promised 5 star treatment, so we booked a week there for our honeymoon this upcoming September. However, they botched everything so badly with reservations and billing that we decided that larger problems must be on the horizon, and decided to cancel with them and switch to another resort in FIji.

Here is the final email I sent to The Wakaya Club, I think it shows a general indifference and lack of organization that I did not expect from a luxury destination:

Hi there,

We are due a payment of the remaining balance back immediately. It is just perfect that you would charge my card early for $10,000, but then only refund me $7,000. Unbelievable bad, and believe me when I say I will try to spread the word about how TERRIBLE your customer service behaves. Before we've even arrived, might I say!

To recap:
1) We were submitted a formal quote and paid a 50% deposit through AMEX Fine Resorts and Hotels.
2) The following month when we called to extend our trip you said that you had made a billing error and in fact we owed you much more.
3) AMEX Fine Resorts and Hotels tried to straighten it out on our behalf, but you were unapologetic over the error.
4) I was faxed a balance payment authorization form for our balance payment due JUL 7th. I signed and returned it to you.
5) Upon receipt of the fax, you immediately charged me the balance $10,000 payment on May 4th, a full TWO months early from the contracted date.
6) AMEX Fine Resorts and Hotels again intervened on my behalf and requested that The Wakaya Club refund the early payment.
7) I received an email from The Wakaya Club stating they would refund $7,000 to me, because they had undercharged us before.
8) To that I said forget it, this is not worth $1900 per night to fight with the management of a supposed "five star" hotel in Fiji. Your organization has shown a general lack of regard for customer service and I believe the problems we've experienced are indicative of larger problems.

In short, please refund IMMEDIATELY the remaining $7,592.09 that we've paid. If this is not completed by end of day today I will proceed through fraud protection at AMEX.

Thanks!

Well, that's my summary of dealing with them. Awful. We rescheduled with a nearby luxury resort for about half the nightly rate, and they've been punctual and professional over the phone. Much appreciated after the above.

Response from WakayaMgr, Manager at Wakaya Club & Spa
Responded Aug 2, 2010
Wakaya Club & Spa is very sorry for the dissatisfaction this guest experienced and also that they never made it to the island to enjoy all that it has to offer. Our intention is that no one have this type of feeling and if there is anything that could have been done to rectify the situation we would have appreciated the opportunity to do so. The Club’s goal is to give the best possible service to each and every guest from start to finish.

We stayed at Wakaya for 11 days for our honeymoon in May. We'd just had a fabulous if hectic wedding and were looking for a piece of paradise to relax, with good food and activitities.
After having done a great amount of research Wakaya seemed the place. How I regret that decision.
Myself and my husband have stayed in some fabulous 5/6star resorts all over the world. This place does not come close to any of the inclusive island resorts that we are used too.
Ok so for a few days the weather was dreadfull (cold, wet and windy) which I know the club had no control over, but they did nothing to make the ruined honeymoon more pleasurable for us.
The rooms (rustic chic they are not) are stale with 10yr old wicker furniture, which combined with the damp weather, frankly stank. The bath (god somedays I needed a hot bath!) took half an hour to fill up (this was timed) the outdoor shower more of a gimmick than the wow factor.
Food was by our standards awfull. Only 2 choices of starters and main course for lunch and dinner. It tasted like it was made by a cook not a 5star gormet chef..........evidently it was one of the islanders who was 'head chef' with a couple of local girls helping him out. Some examples, linguine with shrimp came out as short noodles with a type of green curry packet sauce, we also went out fishing one day and caught a 30lb tuna which was on the menu (I kid you not) in many shapes and forms (mostly raw sashimi) for 6 days!!!! It was a running joke with us and some other guests 'Oh its our tuna again......' Mostly the food was cold getting to the table which was shocking considering it was only us plus 3 other couples most of the time.
The staff whilst pleasant and smiling, seemed to have no training, we left the restauant area many times to go to bed without any staff being around to say goodnight, they all seemed to hang around in the kitchen instead of keeping an eye on the guests. For this we blame bad managment. The manager here was one of the worst I've met, arrogant, patronising and not in the least bit helpfull. Frankly there was a bad atmosphere at the club and we got the impression the staff disliked him (this was later verified by one of the waitresses), He was also never around, like a good manager should be, checking guests were happy, things were getting done or kept up to a 5star rate, we often wondered where he went and what he was doing.
Other things, the beach picnic was ok.........more flies and mossies on the beach than anywhere else, plus not good swimming/snorkling. We were going to do our padi course but felt that by day 3 we didn't want to give them any more of our money (we even tried to get off the island and go to one of our favourite resorts in Oz but it was full and the Wakaya would not even contemplate giving us any kind of refund for the remaining 9 days)
So all in all we felt like we'd wasted a great amount of money and the perfect honeymoon at this place, our final leg of our honeymoon was in SanFransico at a PROPER 5star hotel. We couldn't wait to get off the island and once we got to SanFran, it only magnified the service/food faults at Wakaya.
PS The only champagne they had was Tattinger.......great if you like Tattinger but it just shows lack of choice and verve.
Stop living on the past 'celebrity' guests Wakaya and take notice of all of your paying guests, they are just as important.
