Detailed Reviews
Booked 2 nights here, turned up on a raining evening at 6pm only to find reception was closed and no one was around. After 10 minutes a man comes out and says reception staff went home as they weren't expecting anyone!
He lets us into the building and a four bed dorm which was a tiny room with bunk beds. We were the only people in the entire building which felt quite eerie. The man handed me a key to the dorm and left. Only after he left dos we go to lock the door and the door edge was so eroded it wouldn't lock.
My partner and I felt very vulnerable as we could not lock the dorm room to ensure the safety of ourselves and our luggage. The fact that no one else was around made us feel uneasy so we left and got a cab to uprising down the road ( see my other review).
The following day I went and returned the key and spoke to reception staff, informing them I was not happy to pay for any nights there due to the circumstances. The staff were understanding and agrees I wouldn't be charged.
I feel this place was once a great backpacker hostel, however with competition from Uprising they have allowed standards to slip and u fortunately I wouldn't recommend this place.

Tsulu is not a beach resort. It is conveniently located across the street from the beach, in walking distance to a supermarket, several restaurants, tourist shops, and other hotels.
We brought some food from Suva in hopes of saving some money by preparing our own meals, given that we had reserved a room with cooking facilities. The shared cooking facilities were inadequate in several reagards. No stovetop- instead a microwave, rice cooker, and huge electric frying pan. Not very easy to make use of. In addition, there were not enough utensils/plates/bowls, etc. for even one couple, let alone six (who we shared the kitchen with). Ventilation in the kitchen/common room is non-existent, which can make for very odorous situations. We ended up not being able to cook all our meals and spent more money than we had planned to.
However, because our dining plans had changed, we ended up making taking advantage of the nearby pizza restaurant (which was pretty yummy) and also spending a nice morning at the nearby Uprising Resort (where we had a great swim, super lunch, and even made use of some free wireless internet)!
Our bedroom was clean and AC worked great. While we did have hot water, we unfortunately didn't have much cold water, so showering was uncomfortable and awkward.
We were aware of the state of this accomodation because we had stayed here a few months earlier. During our previous stay, we felt as we were the only couple there and it felt somewhat haunted! During this stay, however, the place was full. If it wasn't for the beach across the street and other nicer resorts in the area, we would not have stayed here.
Tsulu is good for groups and backpackers who don't mind roughing it a bit, are on a tight budget and want to stay in the area, but do not want to spend the money for nearby, more luxurious accomodations.

It is the cheapest accommodation in Pacific Harbour and the amenities reflect the price. Don't expect anything great or even that good of service. The lady at the desk told us to meet her at 7am to get some travel plans settled, and she didn't show up until 7:30. This hostel made everything more difficult than it needed to be. Only stay here for a night or so if you're looking to save some cash.

Let's get the first thing straight - it's not on a beach. The beach is about 400m away across the main Nadi to Suva road. Secondly, take note of the Bunkhouse bit,- not the apartments. We booked this accommodation after finding their website and reading some fantastic reviews. The website made it look like we had found the perfect place for our week in Fiji. In fact, I was more excited about staying here than anywhere else in our 10 weeks RTW trip. We arrived after dark at about 8pm after a 3 hour journey from Nadi and were shown to our 2 bed apartment. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and took our bags for us and checked us in efficiently. We were presented with 2 sets of keys that would have looked more in place swinging from the belt of a prison warder. After trying 7 of them the 8th and final one opened the door. It wasn't really necessary to use the keys as it was clear that some time recently the whole door had been forced as the frame clearly showed signs of a crowbar. When we entered the room, it was obvious that it wasn't as we had expected. The furniture looked as if it had come from a 1950's apartment and there was an unusal smell to the place. The apartment was best described as minimalist or spartan. I entered the kitchen area and immediately noticed that the previous occupant(s) appeared to have left the contents of his/her nose smeared across the front of the refridgerator. This was swiftly followed but a shout of "Oh my god come and look at this" from my wife who, upon turning on the light in the main bedroom had noticed blood smeared across the light switch and on the wall in the form of a bloody handprint. We called the receptionist back up and asked to be moved. She was very apologetic and offered us another apartment, with an equally large number of keys. On this one we were less successful, because none of the keys would unlock the door. We left them to it whilst we went for something to eat. It should be noted that although it is in the middle of the Arts Village which has at least 20 eating places, all bar 1 shut at 6pm. We eventually got into the other room and found it as bad as the first with the exception of the nasal contents and other bodily fluids. The next morning I was up at dawn and waiting for the internet cafe to open and spent all morning booking alternative accommodation. It is worth noting that the rate for the Tsulu was FJ$200 / night room only. We stayed in the Warwick Resort, with breakfast, Lunch and the kids full board for FJ$300 / night. This is definately a backpackers place and no better, although I don't think even the most budget conscious traveller wouldexpect condtions such as these

We had to stay in Pacific Harbor for 2 weeks for work, and the most affordable accommodation was Tsulu Arts village. It's set in a cool location, had a funky looking Tiki man pool and bar...so we thought it must be such a cool place to stay. How wrong we were.
1. There is hardly anyone ever in reception, as we were at work most of the day, you could never catch anyone on reception, as they knock off at 4pm, which is unlike any backpackers I've ever stayed at as there is always someone in reception.
2. The reception isn't actually even in the backpacker building, you have to go outside the backpackers, and downstairs to the entrance of the Arts Village. This caused people to just casually walk in to the backpackers anytime they wanted. Safety concern.
3. A lot of the rooms are basically just cubicles with doors, so the wall doesn't actually reach the roof, which means you can hear everything, and also the people who just walked past the non-existing reception area, can climb over the walls into rooms and sleep there without paying - this happened about 3 times while we were there.
4. There is often no water during the day, and when there is water, there is no hot water.
5. No kitchen facility , so your only choice is to go to the restaurants for all your meals or even just a cup of coffee.
5. The hostel is mostly deserted as majority of the people pass through stay at the resorts, another reason why we didn't feel safe, often being alone in the hostel and then in the middle of the night hearing people break into rooms they hadn't paid for or walk in and sleep on the couch in the living room area.
6. we asked for towels, they told us they had only one. In an empty backpackers...
7. It says on the website there is aircon, this is a lie, there used to be at one point, but seems they don't care enough anymore to even bother with it.
8. The pool is meant to be for houseguests only, but every weekend it was filled with screaming local kids and families.
9. The apartments that used to be for backpackers looking for private rooms, are now being leased out on a permanent basis to locals.
10. All the cultural activities they advertise are non-existant
11. During our last week there, some local guy called his friends and proceeded to break in to one room, then had sex in the living room, so loud that I had to shout at them to shut up. When I brought this to reception's attention the next day, they did nothing about it(as usual) and we booked ourselves into one of resorts, which was double the price, but was sooo worth it as it was about 5 times the luxury.
12. I asked them to refund us for 3 nights that we weren't staying there due to the constant disturbances of non paying guests, and they gave me long excuses of the money already being in the bank and they have to wait for it to clear, even though I paid her cash. She promised I would have it within 5 days, after 5 days we went back, only to hear another story of the internet being down, when I got upset she gave me F$50 in cash and promised to pay the rest into my bank account through western union. I'm still waiting.
This is by far the worst backpackers/hostel/hotel I have ever stayed at, the owner and staff clearly don't care or know anything about customer service, and the place is badly neglected.
DO NOT STAY HERE!!!
Rather pay double, get a nice private room with private bathroom at one of the resorts which would also include breakfast, have nice ocean views, and where the people have actually heard of customer service.
I'd recommend Uprising Resort or Club Oceanus who were able to help us on short notice.

Having booked a room and paid a deposit we paid the full amount on arrival. We were then shown to our room, which was not what we had paid for. When we told the manager this he told us that they hadn't had apartments for 3 years (even though there were signs everywhere advertising them). They would not refund us the difference for the down grade.
The room we took was created in the corner of the common room by two pieces of plyboard. It had no ceiling, no locking door, it shared the strip light with the rest of the common room, which went on and off during the night.
It was very loud, there was no water in any taps or showers, the house keeping did not clean up a sink full of vomit or replace toilet roll during our stay.
It was filthy and all staff seemed confused and gave fabricated excuses.
It was the worst accommodation experience of my life.

By far, THE MOST, terrible place I have ever been, in the entirety of my life.
It was the most expensive place we have been in Fiji, and at the same time the most sh+tty experience. It´s like an abandoned hospital from the inside, with 30 showers and toilets in a row that don´t work. (cold water).
Really this place is just a huge tourist trap. It even says ´luxury backpacker hostel´on the outside hahahha what a joke. The owner is nice though. I would be with so much money from dumb tourist who fall for this crap. Don´t go here!!

If you go to this hostel don't book in advance!
They just have apartment or dorm: no room with private bathroom just share bathroom and maybe you will have a key for your room! And man it's 60 euro plus 12% of the amount for a big lie!
On Booking or Hostel all the info are wrong!!!!!
It's a shame that all those booking website didn't delete the hostel because it's a pure scam and you loose the famous 12%

After a phone call a few hours prior to check-in to Tsulu to find out if the the room has a DVD player ("yes it does ma'am, and two tv's too!") and what type of cooking facilities are in the room and how many it can actually sleep as it was unclear on the website etc we arrive to find that the "fully equipped" kitchen had no pots, pans or other necessary cooking items, there was no electric kettle, no tea, coffee, sugar etc, no DVD player and one tv in one room didnt even have a power-point near it to plug the tv in, there was one double bed and 2 single beds and no cot for our baby.
Another room had a tv that had had its plug broken off so naked wires were stuffed into the socket of an extension cord that was hanging off the wall (if someone had touched the naked wires they would've ended there stay there VERY quickly!) Trying to charge phones or plug in a laptop was a task as we couldn't locate any power-points and when we finally did they were hanging off the wall.
The sheets were unclean, the bed old, creaky, falling apart and uncomfortable, the pillows big and hard foam stuffed things that are way too high for children to use, the floors looked like they needed a good sweep and mop, the bathroom had a "tap" sticking out of the wall for a shower, the tub, toilet and sink had grime stains and the kitchen smelt of off food and dampness.
We had three children under the age of six with us and were booked in for two nights and after complaining about the facilities on the first night we had half of our first nights accommodation refunded to us and our second night "voluntarily" given up leaving a family of 5 without any accommodation for a night as the whole of Pacific Harbour was fully booked out!
Sleeping in our car that night was a true adventure!
The pool needs some work, but did the trick to entertain our children for a couple hours.
Thank you Tsulu, I am NEVER bringing my family back to your "Bunkhouse and Apartments" any time in the near future!

I have no clue what the other guy is talking about? Me and a travel companion spent 9 days @ Tsulu staying in the dorm rooms and had a blast. We were only suppose to stay 3 nights but extended our stay because the place was clean, people were friendly and the facilities were great. The room was cleaned everyday, sheets changed and a new towel on the bed....What else could u ask for? The cleaning girls were friendly and u always got a big Bula with a wide Fijian grin every morning. The bathrooms were spotless with fresh Hibiscus flowers on the counter to add that little extra...This place really went the extra mile to make us enjoy our stay.
The staff in general were kind and curtious and always willing to help. They were phenomenal at organizing activities for us and making sure everything was planned out.
This was one of the coolest backpackers I've stayed at...the pool and Tiki bar are amazing how can u beat a swim up bar? Loads of fun! The food was great at Tsulu and also there were many options available through out the Arts Village.
What else can I say but I would recommend this place to any travelers passing through Pac Harbour or if u'r planning a stay then I would recommend Tsulu.
I really think the guy who hated the place was comparing apples to orange when comparing Tsulu to the Warwick. A backpacker vs. a 4.5 star resort...hmmmm Just doesn't add up to me???
Anyway...Highly recommended from these two travelers.
Hope u chose to check it out,
Justin C.
P.S. We have been travelling for 3 years so we do have a bit of experience with backpackers ;)
