Rooms where terrible, specially the bathrooms where you would find mold and mildew on the ceiling and walls. Staff really not helpful or nice. Will not go out of their way to help you out. Only good thing about this hotel is that it is walking distance to the street markets etc. Wifi worked best in the lobby and was...

Pro: Cheap, free wifi Con: 1) Awkward entrance so taxi can't lead you into the hotel 2) Two staffs did not speak any English and also little rude 3) Spermed up blanket for you to sleep on (This was the biggest turnoff) 4) Wallpaper and places breaking down (desk cabinet broken, our window broken so surrounding noise and cold air...

If you are a finicky person, aspects of this hotel will bother you. There are spots where the wallpaper is peeling and minor damage in places, etc. If you are not a persistent nitpicker, then this hotel will be perfectly fine. Conveniently located about a ten minute walk from the metro and fifteen minutes from the shopping district in old...

Staff don't speak English well..hard to communicate and ask simple things. The hotel itself was really good. Room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet had many options including a continental breakfast.

Simply said, the experience was really bad. Initially the pictures promised fairly nice rooms etc. but the reality was something completely different. After check-in we arrived our room and then the reality hit us. Well, to be honest, as soon as we got out of the elevator, we were able to smell the worn out carpet that was most likely...

It is well located specially close to yun garden market which is so beautiful at night, and the yun garden subway. Not far from downtown, use bus 66, you will get the gorgeous downtown shanghai, where you find most brands, people dancing and singing...The rooms are good and the personal are nice ... There banks nearby just outside the hotel...

First impressions are great as the exterior is imposing. The rooms our group stayed in were in need of redecoration: peeling wall paper, cracked tiling and mysterious fungi growing in the bathrooms. Breakfast was very uninspiring for western tastes. When we tried to order form the bar in the evening there was very limited stock, high prices and very poor...

I booked this hotel in advance because it was suggested by G adventures. Unfortunately both of the rooms that I had were awful. I prepaid for a couple of nights on my own with a very rundown room but didn't complain too much. This hotel was not cheap. Then I was put into my room that was pre-paid by G...

Old, tired and out-dated. Dirty carpets. Smoky. Breakfast area was like a motorway canteen. Rudest bar 'maid' ever. Refusing to serve us 30 mins before closure. We received such lovely hospitality throughout our stay in Shanghai - but managed to find a most unfriendly place.

We stayed here as part of a tour ending in Shanghai. The breakfast was pretty good with western and Chinese options. Tea and coffee wasn't great. However, there is a Starbucks over the road for your coffee fix. The location is decent it's close to the subway and the yuan gardens and markets. The disappointing thing is it's quite run...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Shanghai’s original walls live on in the curve of the streets that serve as the border to the old city. An aerial view shows a clear circular outline and parts of the original wall are preserved as monuments to the ancient past. The main tourist attraction of Yuyuan (which means Yu garden, though it is often redundantly referred to as Yuyuan Garden) draws hordes of tourists every day, but wandering the streets around the complex reveals more exciting attractions such as food and antique markets. There are also streets lined with shops peddling everyday wares such as Chinese dining ware and craft notions that can be even more enticing to visitors uninterested in the usual tourist fare.
