This place is OK for a hostel, but after reading some of the reviews on TripAdvisor, I have to say I was expecting more. The place definitely had a youth hostel atmosphere- accommodations were basic and mostly clean. We had a double private room that had a VERY strong odor, like someone had been chain-smoking in the room just before...

After Beijing, Hangzhou and Xian, this is about the largest hostel we have stayed so far. It is located in a quiet lane off the main road. There are many local cafes in the neighbourhood, and the food are really cheap. Noodles, rice and dumplings places are only a few doors away from one another. There is a Wagas just...

I stayed there for a couple of nights around Christmas time. Very clean, and great atmosphere. There's a great bar at the roof and a common area which make it easy for solo travelers to meet fellow travelers. Location is not the best but close enough to the metro to keep you satisfied. Would definately recommend it.

As it has been said previously, the facilities of a nice hotel combined with the prices and services of an hostel. Rooms and bathrooms are impeccable. Free internet available in a nice common area and Ethernet cable available in all the rooms!!! Possibility to rent a dvd player at the reception. Good location in a quiet backstreet. The place is...

I really liked this hostel. The location was very good, considering Shanghai is such a big city. It was not in the centre of the city but very well conected by the metro network. It is located in a very quiet location, far from noises. The place in general is very clean. The room a little bit small but nothing...

Before booking a room in this hostel I read some reviews that where so positive that I started to doubt if they were real. Well, they sure turned out to be right. The rooms in this hostel are very clean, and effort has been put into making them look nice. The staff is very helpful and speaks English very well....

Wonderful new hostel, we booked one night and ended up staying 3. Was clean, homely, free internet and had the most friendly staff who were always ready to help and assist in anyway. Great location, yes it is a 10min walk to the subway, but if your not willing to pay the price of a "CBD" location, you have to...

Staying in Jing'an

Neighbourhood Profile
The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Close to the Former French Concession, the area has a similar draw for foreign residents but displays a more commercial character. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have the same quiet cafes and independent boutiques that many people think of as distinctive of the Former French Concession. Jing'an is less encased in amber, though, and it's possible to immerse yourself more fully in the energy of China's most bustling metropolis here.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Le Tour Traveler’s Rest Youth Hostel is located in the downtown area of Shanghai and is just 10 minute’s walk from the Subway (Line 2 and Line 7) (JingAn Temple Station and Airport City Terminal). Shanghai Exhibition Centre, Paramount Entertainment and former French Concession are all within walking distance. 5-minute's walk from the subway Line 7 - ChangPing Road Station, which leads directly to Shanghai EXPO Park.Nearby Nanjing West Road is a busy main road with offices, shops, restaurants and pubs. However the hostel is set back in a quiet residential side street away from the hustle and bustle. The building itself was built in the 1930s and is a former Towel Factory that used to supply towels to almost every family in China. When renovating the building we tried to salvage and re-use as much as we could from the old building – much of the furniture, flooring and panelling that you see in our guest rooms and common areas are made from the original timber. We accepts ISIC, IYTC, ITIC, HI Hostel card, Hostelworld VIP Card, … as our membership cards. We can offer accommodation in double rooms, twin rooms, apartment rooms and shared single-sex dormitories. The hostel offers a lively, vibrant atmosphere and has a Café and Bar, 24 hour access, free internet, bike hire, laundry, luggage lockers, garden, TV/DVD lounge, Table Tennis, Billiards and a quiet reading room. Also, at our reception there is a Travel Center, where customers can book flight and train tickets, as well as tickets for local one day tours and acrobatics shows, and much more besides… ... more   less
