Lobby is a little sparse but very modern - particularly at night with the night colouring.. Room was a good size with a modern "at home feel". Some people may think it was too cute - with florals and birds on the walls and the use of bright colours. I liked it, very bright, plenty of space and a very... More

After a night boat trip on the river we strode into the Hotel and went up to the roof top bar which gives you the most fabulous view of the river and the Bund. Even in March it was quite mild so that we could sit outdoors to enjoy the view. We ordered snacks to go with our wine and... More

This is the email I wrote the GM and no courtesy or respect to get a response especially as an elite (Spire) member: Christoph, I hope this email finds you well. Dear Mr. Ali Z, Allow me to begin with a simple, all be it, extremely tardy apology not only for the frustrations and dissatisfaction you and your wife experienced during your stay with us but our and my subsequent lack of response. I went back into my email account to find that your letter dated 11/11 was incorrectly filed among... More

With 270 degree views on the Bund and Pudong from the 25th floor, my room was a great space to be in, with a nightly light show from your bed. The hotel is on the south end of the Bund, which is more 21 century than the older art deco northern end, with a pleasant walk between the two. Best... More

My hands down favourite in Shanghai. Get a river view and be amazed. Excellent maximalist local design. Order the Shanghai Breakfast on the 6th floor. Great cocktails in the PM. Best location in the city just minutes walk from all the cool side streets of the French Quarter.

The Indigo offers great views of the Bund and the city and excellent quality levels of accommodation. The staff are helpful, especially in writing out directions in Chinese to taxi drivers and nothing is a problem. OK, you could be in any major city and it does not feel very Chinese, but after a trip into mainland China, that is... More

The only problem with this hotel is that the staff has a hard time speaking and understanding English which is the international language used in China and this is an international hotel so even Europeans had a bit of a challenge. Otherwise the rooms and facility is great. We took a room with a view of the Bund which is... More

The Indigo is a stylish hotel with a great location on the bund. The rooms are nicely decorated and the breakfast is amazing. However, sometimes it can be a bit difficult to communicate in english. But overall it is a great hotel if you are visiting the city for a few days.

Staying in South Bund

Neighbourhood Profile
South Bund
This waterfront area below the most famous section of the Huangpu River has undergone multiple phases of development that started when the Waterhouse Hotel opened its doors. Though it’s been slower to catch on than people expected, every year something new and exciting opens up and gives people a reason to keep calling the South Bund the "Next Big Thing." There are a couple of landmark hotels and restaurants of excellent quality that serve as anchors, and multiple annual events such as beer festivals, art and fashion fairs and music shows take advantage of the wide spaces, waterfront location and the tiny man-made beach to host huge crowds of people. Wandering about the newness, one can stumble upon authentic Chinese life in the stone gates of people’s residences or the street markets.
