Love the warmth feeling the twin room had brought to me in my last two days stay in shanghai. Room is clean though surrounding area are dirty wet market.im happy never see roaches or mice. Around 15 mins walk to nearby underground station with a lovely proximity to a bunch of tourists attractions such as the bund and Yuyuan garden...

Basic accommodation but comfortable. spacious. twin en suite room at bargain basement prices. Staff friendly and helpful. Free PC with internet and wifi. Towels, shampoo and shower gel provided. Kettle in room. We found location to be superb for walking to most attractions, however, not massively convenient for subway with nearest one being 10-15 minutes walk away.

So the I was in needed a deep cleaning and some repair work, BUT friendly the staff and great atmosphere made up for it! It's a great place to hang out with friends, play pool, and drink a little. And a resident feline to entertain!

Not on the Bund, but easily in walking distance to it and to YuYuan Gardens (about a block from the latter). Staff helped us get train tickets to Hongzhou for a day trip. Beds were fairly comfortable. blow dryer available for use. kittens in the lobby are very sweet. a/c worked well. plenty of hot water in the shower. Quiet...

I arrived there last night early Oct. during the China consecutive holiday and found out the room was full even though I successfully booked one dorm room. The staff there was very responsible and acted very quickly for trying their best to find other hotel near there for me to stay a night. And they ended up giveing me a...

The staff here were really nice and helpful. They helped us book a train journey which we really appreciated. Our double room was compact, clean and well equipped, and the hostel was in a great area near the Old Town (make sure to explore the Yuyuan Gardens). We liked the local street food and nice feel of the area. The...

I totally liked the hostel. My double ensuite room had new and impeccably clean bed linens; the air-con heated the room sufficiently (November can be chilly); bathroom facilities were new, and there were large towels and various toiletries as freebies. The common area downstairs is cozy and packed with guests well into the night, but the merriment does not carry...

The hostel is located quite far from the subway station. We recommend to go to the Yuyuan Garden Metro Station (line 10) and then take bus no. 66 (the hostel is on the third bus stop, you have to go back to the crossroads). The service is really international and you can find in the interior that this place is...

Staying in Old Town

Neighbourhood Profile
Old Town
Shanghai’s original walls live on in the curve of the streets that serve as the border to the old city. An aerial view shows a clear circular outline and parts of the original wall are preserved as monuments to the ancient past. The main tourist attraction of Yuyuan (which means Yu garden, though it is often redundantly referred to as Yuyuan Garden) draws hordes of tourists every day, but wandering the streets around the complex reveals more exciting attractions such as food and antique markets. There are also streets lined with shops peddling everyday wares such as Chinese dining ware and craft notions that can be even more enticing to visitors uninterested in the usual tourist fare.
