We have seen some very harsh reviews of this hotel and found our experience quite the opposite. We stayed here as part of tour group but could understand this wouldn't be first choice if you wanted to stay closer to the heart of Shanghai city...More
Better than most of the knockers would express. Yes COLD breakfast food stuffs but for the low price close tourist points and wonderful large rooms, who cares? Pluses outnumbered the minor negatives such as poor English....We got what we asked for and even scored extras...More
This hotel while nice rooms, has nothing else to offer as it is so far out of the way. You can ot even get a feed. Nothing not even a shop to be found. All you can do is sit in your room. Taxi fare...More
After reading many of the reviews before travelling to China we had expected this hotel to be the pits. However, after a 3 day stay at the Howard Johnson hotel can only surmise that travellers who wrote poor reviews are either illiterate or first time...More
Stayed here for 2 nights as part of our tour. The hotel is clean and modern and well decorated. The rooms are large enough with good firm beds. The bathroom has a hot shower with good water pressure. There is a safe in the room...More

The hotel runs a free shuttle bus to Hongqiao airport. There is a railway station there where you can catch a train to Nanjing Street in the Bund. It takes around 45 minutes in the train. I didn't use this option though. We elected to stay in the city near the Bund and come out to the airport on the day of our flight. We stayed at the Internal Jinjiang Metropolo Hotel Classic Shanghai Bund. It is close by the Bund, only a couple of blocks away and a good hotel with reasonable pricing.
Another option is to use a taxi but it is around 75 minutes in a car to the city.
We also used China Highlights for a private transfer from the hotel to the airport. They are a travel company in China and have an excellent service. You will find them on google when you type in their name.
Hope this helps you.
