Mostly large rooms (the basic rooms are smaller, with some like Hong Kong hostels) with mostly hot water. Cheap beer, and quiet hostel. Close to a metro station (around 5-10 min walk) and shops. Arrive by day, as the only way to get there from airport at night was taxi, which cost around 200rmb for two people.

We stayed for Chinese New Year 2017 in a 4 person dorm room. Pros: Warm room, nice staff, tasty food, hot showers, lockers and space to relax downstairs. Cons: Communal showers and gets cold downstairs in the evening. Also sucks when you're on the top floor with no lift. All in all it was great price and very clean so...

Stayed here last minute for just one night. Hostel offers everything you would need or expect from them. The dorm area smells pretty strongly of incense, mainly outside the restrooms - not overpowering in my opinion but if you're sensitive to that it might bother you. But otherwise nothing to complain about.

This is the best hostel I've ever stayed at ! We stayed bringing the new year in Shanghai . This hostel feels warm and like home. The decor is homely and coming out from the cold it's like a warm hug . The sofas are plush and the dark lighting is very comforting . There's three large sofas to lounge...

We visit Rock & Wood International Youth hostel regularly. Last visit was November 2016 and we enjoyed our stay again. We always book a room in the garden. We are happy with the service and kindness of the English speaking staff. I am sure we'll be back again.

This is one of the best all around hostels I've run into while traveling. Nothing particular stands out as exceptional, but it does everything pretty well and nothing badly. The rooms are nice, the breakfast food is great, the public area is comfortable and equally good for solo reading or drinks and socializing. My only complaint is that it's location...

Hostel world makes you think that this hostel is one of the best in Shanghai and in my opinion that's wrong. I'm currently studying for a year in Shanghai and I stayed there a bit before finding my current residence. The hostel is clean and the private room is comfy. The hostel staff are helpful but not all the time...

The front desk could not help us with some doubts we had, due the poor english. No elevator! The private room is comfortable, but the bathroom has no door. We also had some problems with noises in the first night because our room was close to the shared bathroom, so we could hear the shower, the flush... The location is...

The hostel is clean and nice, the room was just fine, except for the see-through door of the toilet, unless you don't mind seeing your partner doing his business. The hostel is not well located, it is far out from the center and not much to do in the area. Unfortunately, our overall experience was a bit disappointing. If you...

I visited in a group of 4 but stayed in different rooms due to separate bookings being made. I myself enjoyed my stay, having not much to complain about other than the almost complete lack of wifi in the entire hostel (I found one place next to the washing machine that seemed to have somewhat decent wifi at the odd...

Staying in Zhongshan Park

Neighbourhood Profile
Zhongshan Park
The residential and commercial areas around the beautiful grounds of Zhongshan Park have never been considered particularly fashionable by a majority of Shanghai’s foreign residents, but plenty of expats do choose to live here. The park itself is a huge draw, providing a pocket of serenity in the middle of the metropolis. The area has its share of trendy shops with wares that can’t be found elsewhere, delicious restaurants with food ranging from fancy to affordable, and great hidden bars. Rents are also cheaper here than in other neighborhoods with the same conveniences. Aside from the obvious attractions, with its neighborhood fix-anything shops and pop-up street stalls that sell anything you need, you’ll never sacrifice Western comforts.
