Arriving in Shanghai after being in peaceful Yangshuo The Hua Ting is full of business people and tourists. Very comfortable, in places luxurious (to me at any rate). Excellent breakfast with very good coffee, large choice, bustling and busy. Good if pricey bar with entertainment. Can't comment on the restaurant as we didn't eat there. Staff helpful, room with a...

Stayed here for four nights with a Wendy Wu tour. Room amenities have tub/shower, individual quality shower gel, shampoo, lotion, conditioner, toothbrush with paste, comb, q-tips/cotton, shoe mitt, disposable slippers, safe, and small refrigerator. Unlike many European hotels, it did have washcloths. Free strong wifi but facebook, google, news, and any search engines are blocked in China. Did have English...

Spent 2 nights middle of September as part of Virgin Holidays Tour, room acceptable, bed acceptable, bathroom disgusting. Bathroom tiles dirty, some coming away from the wall, grouting in some areas black. Bath plug did not fit so water ran out all the time. Staff on desk could not speak English and were not very friendly. Needed taxi to get...

We stayed here for our first two nights of a Splendours of China tour. A good welcome, comfortable room and a vey good breakfast were a great start to our visit to China. Located almost next door to a Metro station making The Bund accessible in about 20 minutes

I would not even consider this hotel 3 star. It seems to have been luxurious at one time. But it's OLD and very tired. It reeks of smoke even in no smoking rooms. Bathrooms are moldy, loose electric sockets in desk. Best way to describe this hotel is a doubletree prior to renovation. I think most regular travelers know what...

Before staying at the Hua Ting Hotel I had googled images and was pleasantly surprised! A 5* myself and my travel mates thought! The rooms themselves were modern and fresh from the pictures, as were the communal areas - pool, gym, dining area. I'll start with the good! The downstairs area is absolutely fantastic - bright and very clean with...

Staying in Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang

Neighbourhood Profile
Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang
West of Shanghai’s better-known business, cultural and entertainment centers, lies an expansive area of residential neighborhoods peppered with lifestyle pockets that have their own unique attractions. The schools have formed pockets of international communities throughout Gubei, Hongqiao and Minhang. Quite a few entertainment and shopping centers have built up over the years to cater to these communities. While living here means you are relatively far away from Shanghai’s usual hot spots, the large parks, spacious homes and proximity to great Japanese and Korean food keep the neighborhoods popular.
