Ok, so i'll keep this short. We stayed in the magnificent for 5 nights over the Chinese New Year holidays in February of this year, during a time when hotel prices very quickly inflate - especially those in a prime location such as the Magnificent. So from reading other's reviews of this place, it seems apparent that people are very...

The hotel can be a little difficult to find if you follow the instructions from the Internet. However when you arrive the hotel is well equipped and the inclusive breakfast is very well received. The rooms are spacious and clean, with certain floors designated as non smoking. There are many local food outlets close by and the Shanghai metro is...

First of all it has a good location for sightseeing. We spent only one night there during our short stay in Shanghai. Room is clean and large but furniture and equipment is rather old. I had no problem with comunication with stuff. The breakfast was interesting :) there were more chinese food then continental. Hotel is close to the metro,...

The bed sheets hadn't been changed, simply remade, disgusting. The bed was like laying on a board - hardest bed i've ever laid in ever in my life. The toilet didn't work. Requested more pillows, they brought up an iron. That was funny.

Stayed in this hotel for the second time after one year. Went to Shanghai again on a holiday to have some fun in this amazing city. The place combines good location with quite cheap price for Shanghai standards. It is 5 minutes walking from the nearest subway station. Also it is within walking distance of Nanjing Lu (~10-15min). The rooms...

The location is excellent and the staff were very helpful when services were needed. The check in experience was average at best - not very friendly. The hotel has a decent entrance and the breakfast was very good but the rooms need some remodeling/updating especially the bathroom. Also, wireless internet availability only available in the lobby. Rooms only have hard-wired...

This hotel refuses to hold anything at the front desk for guests for guests friends to pick up gifts one-two hours later. Even refuses to call a messenger service to pick up gifts from guests to their in town guests. Completely horrible service. Worst hotel anyone could possibly stay at.

Driving by I noticed the Magnificent Hotel and suggested to my fellow travellers that a hotel with a name like that certainly wouldn't be. When we did a u-turn and stopped outside, I knew we were in for an experience! As this was the last night in China, and having experienced quality accommodation it was a little disappointing. The room...

Unfortunately, not a good experience. The hotel and my room smelled absolutely awfully of old smoking and dirt. The bed was hard as a rock. The carpet was dirty. The internet did not work in the room and was close to non-working in the lobby. The staffs were rude, impolite and unprofessional, they ignore you – and it is almost...

Most important point: Great value for the area. Any time complaints might pop into your head, just remind yourself of the price you are paying. You could stay in a posh hotel a ten minute walk from here and spend literally seven or eight times the price. So, with the bargain pricing in mind, here are some comments... Rooms are...

Staying in Xintiandi

Neighbourhood Profile
The refurbishment of a block of old shikumen into a carless entertainment center called Xintiandi, filled with restaurants, shops and bars, turned this area below South Huangpi Road into one of Shanghai’s most fashionable areas. Luxe condos house people who can afford the high-end brands that fill the malls and shops along Madang Road. The pleasant Taipinghu Park provides the area with green space and is also home to Shanghai Fashion Week twice a year. It’s not all glitter and glamour, though, as the rise of Danshui Road has given the Xintiandi area a shot of toned-down character. Small bars and cafes, mostly owned by locals, have people hanging out in a formerly quiet, unassuming part of the neighborhood.
