This hotel is located a 40-120 minute taxi ride from the Bund area of the city (depending on time of day) but my prefered way to travel was via the metro with line 10 being Longxi Road station which was just over 1km from the hotel entrance - it was easy enough to walk or RMB14 in a taxi. The...

I travelled here for work. It is beautiful and surrounded by a huge garden. It does not feel like ur in the middle of a maddening city. I liked the breakfast spread. I ordered room service quiet a bit and English was a serious problem. (which is a problem in the city).I liked the room . The food was decent.

This is a beautiful hotel. The staff is very friendly. The rooms are big and comfortable. The grounds are wonderfully kept. Walking the many paths are relaxing and peaceful. To walk the paths you have to see the front desk to get a gate key. My husband had business meetings for 2 days and I spend my time wandering the...

I felt compelled to write a review for this hotel as I had really mixed feelings. I must say the experience started really badly at check-in, as the reception debited CNY6,000 on my credit card for guarantee without warning me. I discovered it thanks to the SMS my bank sends me automatically in this kind of cases. I complained because...

I have be visiting Shanghai for more than 10 years, and this hotel is exceptional. Pretty close to the domestic airport and a busy city, but you would never know it once you pull off the highway and into their driveway. Its about a 2 k drive through a well kept wooded area. Like approaching an exclusive resort. Once inside...

The main attraction of this 5 star hotel is not the hotel or its reataurants, but its location. It lies in a beautiful park in the middle of Shanghai, in the Gubei area. The park is an oasis in a 20 million people urban agglomeration. The perimeter of the park is about 4 km. Inside the wall you have a...

My first trip to Shangai on business and this was recommended as a relaxing place to stay after a long journey. The name "Guest House" conjours up an image in the UK of a seaside B+B but this was 4/5 star luxury all the way. Room was large, luxurious with a great bathroom and comfy bed. Free wireless in-room. I have been to Shanghai several times, but this was the most wonderful place with beautiful and peaceful surroundings. Spacious room and bathroom. Very clean, although was an unpleasant smell in the room. Breakfast was excellent as well the lunch which was delicious and plentiful. I just regret that I have stayed only for 3 nights, would love to stay...

We found the Xijiao a peaceful haven of 5 star luxury in Shanghai. The hotel and the service we received was faultless and the rooms were some of the best that we found on a tour around China. The best feature was the extensive gardens around the hotel. These are well laid out with several clearly marked walks around the...

Neighbourhood Profile
Gubei / Hongqiao / Minhang
West of Shanghai’s better-known business, cultural and entertainment centers, lies an expansive area of residential neighborhoods peppered with lifestyle pockets that have their own unique attractions. The schools have formed pockets of international communities throughout Gubei, Hongqiao and Minhang. Quite a few entertainment and shopping centers have built up over the years to cater to these communities. While living here means you are relatively far away from Shanghai’s usual hot spots, the large parks, spacious homes and proximity to great Japanese and Korean food keep the neighborhoods popular.

“a room with terrace is a good decision.”

“To have a totally quiet room with balcony facing the park, not facing any road, take the executive rooms, not the business rooms. Slightly more expensive (I think 200 or 300 more) but worth it. Book on their website for good rates but call to confirm which room you have”

“If you choose to go to dinner outside the hotel, and you do not have a car, please don't expect that you can leave the front door and walk to a restaurant. Its a 2K walk back to the main road. However, they have a multipassenger golf cart that can excort you out to the main road, and pick you up at the road, when you return. Not a problem, but need to be aware.”
