Located in French Quarter. Lots of good restaurants within walking distance and MTR just next corner. Good check in and out. Staff helpful. Rooms very basic. Breakfast limited but restaurant better but hard to find and kind of depression till in restaurant room. Better lighting in halls and some decor would help. Starbucks next door is beneficial. Larry

This is an older hotel in the middle of the French Concession - a terrific place to base in Shanghai. You can walk to many places (if you're a walker, the concierge was shocked at some of the places we were walking to (45-60 minutes but Shanghai is big!). If you don't like walking there are several subway lines nearby.... More

I decided to take advantage of the 3-day transit visa while returning from Bangkok. It was my first trip to Shanghai and I heard about this hotel from a coworker. It was very easy to find after coming up to the street from the metro station (there is a Starbucks next to it). I probably wouldn't stay there if I... More

Yes, this is a business hotel and no more. Everything is clean, room is big and noise level remain okay for the whole night. We can get a good sleep there. Price is a bit high but is understandable regarding the location that this hotel has. The location is good, in the middle of city so is easy to reach... More

Stayed in this hotel for 2 nights during business trip. The location is perfect. The subway station is just in front of the hotel and 2 stations away from the People Square, 4 stations from Lujiazui where the famous Oriental Pearl Tower is located. The room was clean, the staffs were helpful and can speak English well. Highly recommended!!

At motel rates, don't expect the Ritz and enjoy its prime location. Right Place- In the middle of HuaiHai Road, it is at the heart of Shanghai's main retail district. There's a Starbucks right on the ground floor, a small supermarket in the Parkson's across the street and shopping malls all around. Right Room- The facility is currently being refreshed... More

Overall an average hotel. With the odd high light. The location is good. Really helpful staff when the Internet goes wobbly. What ever the time of year the air condition is lousy. In summer you roast in winter you freeze. And in Spring the air con has a mind of its own. Rooms average. clean and a reasonable size. Don't... More

Staying in Former French Concession

Neighbourhood Profile
Former French Concession
While there are technical borders to the area formerly governed by the French in Shanghai, the "French Concession" of today is an amorphous neighborhood that is a favorite of the city's foreign residents. While it is mostly within the Xuhui district, residents will sometimes include parts of Jing'an and Luwan in their mental maps of the Former French Concession. The area seems frozen in time, characterized by quiet, tree-lined avenues, French-style villas, interesting boutiques, lively bars and quaint cafes that are not typical of China. All of these mix and mingle with local life as Chinese markets and lanehouse communities are peppered throughout. Denizens of the Former French Concession can spectate a mahjong game on the street or get their bike checked at a tiny bike repair store on the way to their refurbished apartment tucked away among Chinese family homes.

“Choose the rooms away from HuaiHai Road for a quieter stay and better sleep. The Parkson's across the street doesn't turn off it's display till well past midnight. My favorites were the corner rooms on the upper floor. A more spacious configuration, near the elevator and a quaint view of the neighborhood below.”
