Got a room in the executive floor, average size. The property in general looks and feels tired. It is yelling for a face lift. Very limited staff speaks English or any other language but Chinese, so the more basic things required a significant effort or just drop your needs. Very well located, walking distance to the modern Shanghai (away from... More

This was my third stay here. Quite frankly, the service quality and hardware have both slipped. The hotel still offers the best price in a prime area in Shanghai, but that's about the only plus (if you stay in the garden building). One incident illustrated the poor experience this time: when I requested for an ironing board, the housekeeping manager... More

Having recently started a company, I am highly budget conscious when I am traveling. Unfortunately, Shanghai offers less and less budget options. But for the rate, Yan'An was perfect. Almost. The room was quiet, and the view of the garden was surprisingly quaint. Our room was more than adequate and comfy. The hotel is walking distance from the bars, restaurants,... More

Experiencing the east building! The room has the inconvenience of three steps from bedroom and bathroom that results very dangerous during night without lights . The rest of the room was very satisfactory . Wide window facing a small pagoda was very pleasant. Comfortable bed and overall services are sufficient standards . I did not practice the " too Chinese... More

You get what you pay for - this room is very small - both by square foot and vertically - I had to duck to get into the bathroom and also to enter into the room. The bed was even harder than the typical Chinese bed. Only saving grace was the location - close to metro and close to theatre

This hotel located about 12 minutes walk from the nearest metro station(Jian Temple). Stayed in the annex building behind the main tower - about 70 meters. No connecting roofed walkway. The room was considerably comfortable but the window is facing someone's kitchen - just a mere 2 meters away. The breakfast was quite lavish but not for guest who not... More

I have had a 2-night stay on 17 and 18 June 2013 at CNY590 per night with breakfast - the booking was done by my business contact in Shanghai. Good points: 1. It is safe. 2. The room is quite big and comfortable (for a couple although am alone) and reasonably well cleaned. 3. The bed and pillow are comfortable.... More

To start with, the location is pretty darn good. Everything else is poor to average. The room feels crowed and is old. The bathroom roof is very low, if you are taller then 6 foot, DO NOT stay here. The hotel is barely above motel 168 standard. I do not see how it can claim to be a four star... More

Staying in Jing'an

Neighbourhood Profile
Jing'an
The heart of this neighborhood is the Jing'an Temple, while the main artery of excitement and entertainment is West Nanjing Road. Close to the Former French Concession, the area has a similar draw for foreign residents but displays a more commercial character. Large, flashy malls, luxe residential high-rises and trendy nightlife areas can be found along West Nanjing Road, but areas off the busy street have the same quiet cafes and independent boutiques that many people think of as distinctive of the Former French Concession. Jing'an is less encased in amber, though, and it's possible to immerse yourself more fully in the energy of China's most bustling metropolis here.
