We stayed here twice, once on our first day in Costa Rica and once on our last. This hotel really did a great job of bookending our vacation so that we had a rally good experience.

When we got to San José, we had no trouble finding the shuttle that took us promptly to the hotel. It's conveniently located near the airport, but not extremely close that the planes distract with their noise. The check-in process was smooth and efficient and the people there were very friendly and introduced us to the one main mindset of the country, pura vida, the pure life.

The breakfast was very good both times around and the service was great. They helped accommodate our gluten-free friends and they were very patient with any requests that we had. The food was simple but well-made and there was no pressure that we had a time limit on our seats.

The rooms were large enough and clean. We had forgotten a couple of toothbrushes and they were able to provide temporary ones. Storage of luggage (and between the two families, there was a lot)? No problem. A cot so that one child didn't have to sleep with the others? Also not a problem. It's raining? Complimentary umbrellas at the door!

I'd come back here again.

Best airport hotel ever: Bright, clean, well curated and fresh! Excellent breakfast includes eggs, meats and lots of local foods, plus fruits and yogurts. Really tasty! Great water pressure, great bath products, generous coffee. Tip: ask to be assigned a room upstairs; inconsiderate travelers let their little kids run all over the first floor level screaming and if they run outside your room at 5 a.m. you won’t be happy (trust me). Not the hotel’s fault but really annoying. Otherwise an excellent stay!

It is just wonderful knowing that your stay at our hotel was such a success since our utmost desire is to see our guests totally satisfied and very comfortable, resting and enjoying themselves all they want. By providing our guests with very comfortable accommodations, with superb services (like our delicious complimentary breakfast and our free 24 hour shuttle transportation to and from the airport among others) and by having a very convenient location (besides being less than a mile from the airport we are tight across our parking lot from several car rentals, from a couple of restaurants and from a casino), we ensure that they are going to have everything they might need right at the tips of their fingers, making it possible for them to rest and sleep without having any worries or hassles. I stayed at this hotel with my family in both the beginning of our trip and at the end. It has a super convenient location. It is located literally a 4 minute drive by free shuttle bus from the SJO and it has a strip of rental cars right across the parking lot (we rented from Vamos which was excellent). It also has a Denny’s restaurant in that same parking lot. The hotel itself is very clean and the staff was super helpful. This hotel follows all COVID protocols with masks, temperature checks, and hand sanitizing. The free breakfast that is served in the morning had a plentiful selection to choose from. I know some people complained about the shuttle bus service however we had no issues with it at all. Our arriving flight landed at 10:00pm and by the time we got our luggage we waited maybe 5 minutes for it to arrive, when we departed they had the shuttle waiting outside for us. All around great stay!!!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Hampton. All of the staff were more than helpful to us. Our key card was not activated correctly when we first arrived, but a member of the cleaning crew immediately let us into our room and obtained a new card for us. Check – in went very smoothly, despite the fact that many people were checking in at the same time as us. We had an early flight out in the morning, and the shuttle to the airport was ready and waiting for us. The driver even started his workday early to make sure we were there on time. in addition, they had to-go breakfast bags ready for us. Our only complaint was that the pool was a little chilly. We really enjoyed our stay.

I wish I could comment on the amenities in the room, but it was too dark to see anything. I’m joking, but it was seriously too dark in the room. The only good lighting was in the entrance to the room and in the bathroom. No fan in the bathroom, so it gets stuffy in there. Better lighting by day with the blind open. The staff are really kind and helpful. A lot of guests have no masks on and we’re still battling covid. The beds were comfortable, but we didn’t like the pillows (feathers are awful for asthma), so I had to use my neck pillow from the airplane. There are some nice decorations on the walls and more well lit areas in the lobby to hang out in (but with masks on). The best part for me was the amazing breakfast. The vegetables were absolutely cooked perfectly, there were scrambled eggs and boiled eggs, lots of fresh fruit, coffee, tea, and this juice that I guessed was possibly cactus. It was so good! My friend said the sausage was too salty. Plenty of parking here and right next to car rentals and restaurants. The shampoos were too small for 3 people, but they smelled nice.

I requested a quiet room and was placed on first floor near staff/maintenance room, it was very quiet. Perhaps only a couple other guest rooms in the area. It was New Year's Eve and had to get up at 2:30 am to catch an early flight.

The only two things this Hampton Inn has going for it are the location and the courtesy of the staff. The shuttle operates around the clock and gets you to the airport in about five minutes. The staff is courteous, friendly and helpful.

However, when I first walked into my room, I noticed the floor was dirty, despite the note on the door that said the room had been "super cleaned," or something to that effect. The room was dingy and dated. There were not enough outlets, and they were inconvenient. When I went to the ice machine, I noticed little black specks on some of the ice cubes. I filled the bucket anyway, just to see if I was seeing what I thought I saw. I didn't use the ice, but let it melt. Sure enough, there were little black specks floating in the water. I can't imagine how there could be any excuse for dirty ice.

Because the dining room was closed (due to Covid), the only places to have dinner were Denny's, a casino, and a local chain that offers grilled chicken. We chose the latter, and it was okay, but no wine—nor was there wine in the fridge at the hotel.

The next morning there was a complimentary breakfast. Because of Covid, it couldn't be a buffet, so the staff was serving the usual rubbery scrambled eggs and "gallo pinto," typical beans and rice, which were okay. But here we were in Costa Rica, land of bananas, pineapples, mangos and papayas, and the only fruits offered were apples and oranges!

We will not stay at this Hampton again unless they do some major updating.

This is a good choice for your first or last night in Costa Rica. It has an excellent, reliable free shuttle service to or from the airport which is less than five minutes away. It is convenient to the car rental companies. There are two acceptable restaurants within walking distance, Denny's and Rostipollo. It is not convenient to tourist attractions, but it is a good place to get organized. It has a super clean self-service coin laundry, get tokens at front desk. The rooms are simple but very clean. Breakfast offering was more than adequate and gloves were provided - which made us feel safe. There is also a nice little outdoor pool area with shade as well as sun.

This hotel is neither great nor terrible. It’s good for one night to be close to the airport. We found the staff to be just fine but no one to help with luggage. They did require that we sanitized our hands and also checked our temperature EVERY TIME we came in the door. I went out to the car and back for 1 minute and had to check my temperature again. The funny part: it was 4 degrees C lower than 10 minutes before making my question the accuracy of the machine itself. Rooms are clean and have what you need. Beds are comfortable. The shuttle to the airport is a huge perk!

Arriving at SJO airport, the first transfer bus drove past without stopping but I only had to wait another 15 mins. Check in easy, room large, clean, comfy bed but very noisy old fashioned ac unit. Breakfast was not good. Disposable plates, plastic cutlery and cups. I hate throwing away plastic. This country is so bio diverse it’s upsetting to see so much trash. The breakfast was pinto de gallo, eggs, bagels and bread, peanut butter and some fruit. Although close to airport, I would choose another property

I think the shuttle runs 24 hours, but we waited a very long time (perhaps 45 minutes) when we arrived on a late flight. We called them and the driver finally showed up. I think he was on a dinner break. Make use of the helpful gentlemen who will approach you on the curb. Most of them will be promoting taxis, but they will phone the hotel on your behalf, and are (in my experience) universally helpful. Tip them a few bucks (or 1000 colones) and sit back and wait for the shuttle. The "waiting place" is perhaps 75 yds from the airport exit; walk down the sidewalk past the throngs of people. But, but... no cel phone? If you don't have one, that's understandable. But if you're choosing to not travel with one, that's avoidable. Please consider taking a cel phone that has a cheap international plan (ATT, Verizon) or a free international plan (T-Mobile). Great for navigating to your destinations in rental cars, great for reservations, great for so many tasks. I have a lot of experience in Costa Rica and would be happy to answer additional questions.
