We stayed here on the first and last nights of our trip and it was an absolutely fantastic choice. We had considered several of the airport hotels but are so glad that we chose the Villa San Ignacio instead. First, it's only a 20 minute drive (without traffic) from the airport, so not that far. Second, it's a lot less expensive than any of the airport hotels (we paid $95 each night).

The main reason to stay here is the customer service. The staff go above and beyond to help with anything you could possibly need. They arranged taxis from/to the airport for us ($23 from the airport, because it includes the drivers' parking fee) and $20 to the airport. Both drivers were the nicest men, so sweet and accommodating (even with our 4am departure for our 6:30am flight!). Both spoke excellent English but were very gracious and encouraging when we spoke in our limited Spanish. When we arrived, it was easy to find our driver among the chaos based on the instructions we were given. We arrived at the hotel at 11pm and had two cold beers delivered to our room a few minutes later!

Breakfast (complimentary) was delicious with fresh juices, plantains, beans/rice, toast and eggs made to order. When we left for our crazy early flight, there was a knock at our door at 3:30am: fresh hot coffee and little to-go bags with bananas and delicious banana bread.

The rooms are pretty basic but since we were only here for two nights, we weren't looking for luxury. The pool area was a great place to relax with a juice or cocktail before dinner. We ate at the restaurant on our last night in the country and really enjoyed it. The grounds are also very nice, though we didn't have time to explore them.

The only downside is that we heard a lot of noise from traffic on the nearby road starting at 5am one morning. This may not affect all of the rooms. Ear plugs helped a lot.

Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend the Villa San Ignacio and would absolutely stay here again.

Finally, three quick tips for CR travel in general:
We rented with Vamos and they delivered our car to the hotel during breakfast for a $9 fee.
When we dropped the rental car back at Vamos at the end of the trip, we used Uber to get back to the Villa San Ignacio and had no problems with it.
You can pay for a lot of things in Costa Rica in US dollars but be sure to bring a lot of small bills ($10s, $5s, $1s) because change is given in colones and not at the best rate.

Beautiful grounds one could walk around. Many people present were waiting to meet up with RoadScholars for birding. They found birds on the property. Helpful and pleasant staff. Spacious and attractive sitting areas. Nice pool. The beds were comfortable. The breakfast included made to order omelets lots of coffee, fruit, banana bread, toast, pancakes. The building and the grounds were visually interesting. The staff arranged a cab to the airport at a reasonable rate and the driver accepted credit cards.
It was an oasis in the rush around San Jose area. We were able to rest up for our flight to Chicago

Staff very friendly and helpful. Location from airport was perfect. Able to visit Le Paz waterfall from this hotel before moving on to travel around Costa Rica. On return, once again close to airport for transfer which hotel was able to arrange. We booked early and asked for airport pick up. Taxi did not arrive but had assistance from another driver who phoned our hotel and then was passed onto another driver who took us to the hotel at the original price agreed. Advice would be to contact hotel a day or so beforehand to make sure taxi has been arranged.

Do you like authentic boutique hotels where the welcome is warm and nothing is too much trouble. Then take time to investigate these hotels move away from the bog standard chain brands with little personality and you will not be disappointed.

Villa San Ignacio is set in beautiful gardens. The rooms are clean and pretty and the balconies and patio's looking out over the surrounding countryside are spectacular. The bathrooms are clean and modern and equipped with toiletries and fresh towels - a good supply of hot water and probably the best shower we had during our travels round Costa Rica.

The food served for breakfast, lunch and dinner was wonderful and the setting for eating was beautiful - by the pool or on a lovely terrace with amazing views.

All of this is great but it is the people who look after you during your stay that make it memorable and special. Nothing is too much trouble, they take the time to get to know you and made our two stays with them unforgettable for all the right reasons.

We stayed at a 5 star rated hotel in San Jose while we were travelling but I would definitely recommend the Villa San Ignacio experience. Authenic friendly fabulous - at the start of your trip it makes you feel like you are really starting to immerse yourself in Costa Rica and its people and at the end of your trip a wonderful fond farewell.

It is a short hop from the airport and they are very happy to organise your transfers for you. We hope to return again in the not too distant future. Thank you to Sergio and the team for everything.

This hotel was a nice respite from driving through San Jose. Once through the gate, you are in an oasis, with beautiful landscaping, buildings, and pool. Rooms are simple but charming, have large windows for letting in natural light, and were quiet considering the road just outside the property. I had my birthday dinner here and it was amazing. Coconut crusted fish, heart of palm ceviche, plantain chips with basil relish, and a great salad. Lots of drink choices from the bar as well. Breakfasts were also very good, being typical Costa Rica with rice/beans, eggs, fruit, and plaintains on the back patio. The staff were the nicest people, especially the concierge who seems to work around the clock. Can't say enough nice things about the place, it truly was a welcome hidden gem in the San Jose suburbs. The Doka Coffee Plantation is about 30 minutes away and a fun tour. We had scheduled a second night here, but due to my wife's dental procedure, we had to stay on the other side of San Jose. Two nights would have been idyllic. Give them your business if you can.

Twenty minutes drive from San Jose’s intl airport this Spanish colonial style hotel has seven acres of beautiful tropical landscaped grounds, a charming breakfast patio, a good restaurant and poolside bar, and friendly staff. They can organise airport pickup given advance warning and two children can stay free if they share existing bedding. Dogs and cats welcome for a surcharge. Likewise an extra bed. I would recommend the garden view rooms.

I guided two groups from Buffalo, NY USA totaling 20 people. The two groups stayed their first nights in Costa Rica and I spent 4 nights here in between tours. I enjoyed every minute of this beautiful space! The pool area is relaxing, clean and comfortable. Every single staff member that I had contact with was kind and professional, always smiling and accommodating! The restaurant/food was excellent - I would highly recommend the Rosemary Chicken, the mixed seafood traditional rice dish, hummus appetizer and the Aztec soup was absolutely one of the best soups Ive ever had! Hands down! Cocktails poolside made for lovely afternoons. The staff was extremely helpful and assisted my group with many requests...with a smile every time! Birdwatching through the property delighted with Lesson’s Motmots, Fiery-billed Aracaris, Zone-tailed Hawk, Painted Bunting and lots more! I would absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a fantastic, relaxing and affordable Costa Rican hotel. I cant be more pleased! I would definitely return and will spread the word to future traveling friends!

This is a lovely hotel about 30 minutes drive from the International Airport of San Jose. There is the main area with restaurant, reception, pool, terrasse and the original rooms as well as another larger building a short drive or hike up the hill with more rooms.
We stayed at the Villa at the beginning and the end of our tour in rooms 8 and 11 which are identical except that nr 11 is on the first floor above nr 8. There was a comfortable double bed with a very good mattress and the room was decorated very nicely. The bathroom is small but perfectly adequate. The room itself is spaceous and well appointed with a second washbasin, an A/C, ceiling fan and a safe.
The gardens are magical and there are trails to explore. The view from the top of the property is beautiful and benches throughout the garden invite guests to sit and watch the butterflies, humming birds monkeys and the lovely vegetation.
The pool is beautiful but gets busy at times because this place is popular with families. Dogs are welcome too (though not allowed in the pool...). There is a good pool table and books and games in the large entertainment area.
The food was excellent and the menu quite varied with a good wine list and lovely cocktails.
The staff are charming and very happy to arrange taxi rides or tours.
We had our rental car delivered to and picked up from the hotel which worked very well.
We can definitely recommend the Villa San Ignacio !

This beautiful place is full of charm. Reminded us of a villa in Italy. My husband and I played pool while listening to relaxing music and sipping cocktails. The room was quaint and the bed was very comfortable. It was refreshing to not have a tv in the room. We had free wifi to use on our phones when needed. Thomas warmly greeted us when we checked in and made us feel very welcome. Dinner was amazing and very flavorful. Breakfast included fresh mango juice from fruit grown right on the property. This place is a gem.

We stayed at Villa San Ignacio just one night before our flight back home. It was a such a lovely piece of property in the middle of a busy city. We had a delicious dinner there and EXCELLENT service. My teens enjoyed swimming in the pool and playing chess in the lobby after a long car ride to get there. We had an early morning flight and the staff were very sweet to bring coffee, fruit and pastries at 4:45AM. Just 15 min to the airport (with no traffic). I highly recommend this place!

Hello! We are about 45 minutes from Territorio de Zaguates farm. I'd advice you talk to them ahead of time, since they do not have the farm open for visits all the time - only in certain days. You can always request a shuttle or a 2 way taxi with our CustomerService agents to get there since it's not very near. Our agents will be able to book a car for you. Thanks!

Some Additional Info: Helpful Phone Apps Uber is super helpful and you know you are going in the right direction. I find a lot of comfort in that. Waze, there are no road signs in costa rica. They give directions based on iconic sights, towns, and whatever they can remember. Waze makes it super easy. Just type in the name of the hotel and there you go. Whats App is a program that allows you to make free calls to whomever shares the same app. Its like Facebook Messenger but easier to operate in Costa Rica. Since everyone uses the app you can always add the hotel concierge phone number and with a wifi location you can give them or your partner a call for free. Skype was awesome. Sometimes i needed to call home and the calls were clear, easy, and cheap. I added 5 dollars and i still have about 2 dollars left over. Hope this helps.

Answer from JosePablo

Hello! Our breakfast time is from 7:00 am to 10:00 am. But if you need to leave early, we can serve you an early continental breakfast at our Art Gallery Reception, that has tropical fruit, toasts, coffee or juice. We would need to coordinate the night before your departure with our waiters - but we will be happy to assist you!
