Our first night was at Hotel Mi Tierra. It worked out beautifully. There were only maybe two other people staying there that night. Breakfast was lovely and everyone was friendly and helpful. We had the number of beds we requested.

When we returned for our last nights the place was packed with teenagers and we were not provided with the number of beds we had reserved and the next night we were told we could get two beds but we would share a bathroom. I could not tolerate that situation at that time. We had to go elsewhere. The young man at the desk had to call his supervisor and he then accepted that we would not pay for what we did not receive.

If you are ok with noise and crowds and can handled anything out of the blue then this will be a fine place for you. I wish the owners and employees of Hotel Mi Tierra well!

We arrived in Alajuela very late and found this place from the internet. It is near the airport and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very clean, but not to big. The Costa Rican Breakfast was delicious. Its really a good place to stay. We will surly come back.

Our room was spartan, but comfortable, especially for the price. Our host Roberto spent at least 90 minutes with us after a delicious breakfast (included) helping us get oriented to Costa Rica. This was our first trip to CR, and we needed lots of information. Roberto could not have been more gratious or helpful. He helped with car rental as he promised, and encouraged us to wait until we arrived to rent a car. I am very glad we did, rather than making arrangements long distance, then getting the car at the airport. If we had tried to find the hotel on our own having just arrived in CR after dark I seriously doubt we would have succeeded! In CR you don't simply plug in an address in the GPS and take off! Places there do NOT have street numbers or addresses as we know them, so programming a specific address is impossible! I know that is foreign to Americans, but it is true. So we flew in and took a taxi from the airport to the Mi Tierra for $6 US. Thanks again to Roberto, Christian, and Carlos for great service on both ends of our vacation to the Chachagua rain forest.

We stayed at Mi Tierra the first and the last night in Costa Rica, is has a very convenient location near airport (6-7$ for a taxi). It's within walking distance to local super, shopping area and a park, which is useful if you need to kill a few hours in Alajuela.

The hotel itself is very clean and the breakfast was delicious (local fruit, coffee, eggs, toast). Our children enjoyed the little pool while I enjoyed watching birds perching on the trees on the patio. They have a mango tree and one other fruit tree I failed to identify, which attract a lot of birds, including parrots.

Ivannia has been very helpful, on my asking she had dinner waiting for us the night we came (we flew in late, with two children) and she also helped us dealing with car rental company, saving us an unpleasant trip to San Jose. She recommended an excellent nearby soda (El Banco), thank you, Ivannia for all your help!

Overall, the hotel feels like a safe base in Alajuela.

I emailed a cancellation to robertocacho@hotelmitierra.net, 26 days BEFORE the reserved nights. Both night's reservation numbers were included in the email as well as my full name. Roberto is charging me, even though I followed ALL cancellation requirements, AND he was also advised by phone, by a person who is fluent in his language. I was warned Roberto will charge people anyway, and good luck with that. It is true, I am now having to deal with problem.. I do not recommend a staying in a place of this kind of character!

I took a trip to a biological station in costa Rica this past week. The day of our arrival and the night before we took off, we spent in Mi Tierra. It was amazing. The staff were great, the rooms were comfortable and a hot breakfast goes a long way. By American standards it s not fancy with shared bathrooms , but the experience put it above 5 star hotels in the states for me. I loved it and I will be going back.

I have stayed in Mi Tierra three times now. It is an excellant place to stay when one has an early flight the next day and wants to be near to the airport. Roberto and Gaby are kind, helpful and extremely nice. The breakfast is also very good. I enjoyed swimming in the small pool. This is not a fancy place but it is safe and comfortable.

Hotel Mi Tierra is run by some incredible folks. If you need to stay near the airport (lots of 6am flights) THIS is the spot. The hotel is about 10mins from the airport. If you want to spend some time in Alajuela the location couldn't be better. The central plaza is only a few blocks away and a few blocks more you are at the central market.

The hotel is has simple, clean rooms with TV and fan. The price is great and there are options for even more economical stays (such as shared bathroom). The pool is just right for a cool dip or hanging around. Breakfast is included.

This is a great option for those staying in the central valley.

We only stayed for one night before heading to La Fortuna & had a great stay. Roberto was extremely helpful as soon as we arrived & has a wealth of knowledge to share about Costa Rica travel. Nice breakfast of eggs & black bean rice. Easy to get to from the airport, we paid $4 in a taxi. Would really recommend this hotel.
