Wow, what a place! It is slightly difficult to get to, but totally worth it! I would recommend having a car with 4-wheel drive although I heard it's not completely necessary. Roads are narrow and a little scary getting there, but what a view when you get to the top! This hotel is beautifully landscaped and the rooms are outstanding....

Drive up to the observatory an hour before sunset and be rewarded with a magnificent view of Arenal lake to north and the overpowering presence of Arenal as it gathers the clouds around it. Dramatic and wild. There are hikes to the waterfall and even to the summit (which we didn't do). The observatory has a restaurant and bar with...

We went on a day trip here from La Fortuna. There are some great views of Arenal Volcano, Cerro Chato and Lake Arenal from this property. We took scooters out to the Observatory. It would have been possible to hike Cerro Chato and also see the Danta waterfall in one day if you get an early enough start. We did...

Great trails with views, all well marked. Well worth the $10 entrance fee. We decided to shower at the pool and stayed for dinner, an excellent meal with good service. The lodge had gorgeous grounds, well landscaped and lit. If you stay there, it's a long, rough road in. I didn't mind, loved driving my 4x4 Daihatsu Terios!

My husband and I came here just for a day pass to hike. It was a fabulous day. The hiking trails are well marked and very scenic. We did not hire a tour guide so we probably missed quiet a bit but we still enjoyed it thoroughly. We stayed for lunch which was also very nice. I would like to...

We stayed in a Smithsonian room over New Year's. Because of the rain and the fog, we never got that perfect volcano view, but we still loved the resort. The boys especially loved the game room, suspension bridge and hot springs pool. Wi-fi throughout the property was very good. Don't miss the free morning hike for great views, wildlife, waterfall...

Spent 3 nights here and enjoyed every minute. We had a room in the Casona that was perfect for 4 women traveling together. Shared showers and common room were fine and we met interesting travelers that way too. View of Arenal Lake from our lodge was a lovely way to start the day. Breakfasts (included in the price of the...
