Can't beat the view or the nearby hiking trails or the nice pool and jacuzzi. We were there two nights without car. That meant no dining options save for the onsite restaurant. The place is fine, but it is pricey. Waitstaff is very attentive and friendly, and most speak English competently enough. I'd go back, but next time probably with...

We stayed at the lodge for 1 night. After reading all the reviews, I decided to stay just 1 night on our way out of the La Fortuna area. The lodge itself is very nice. Spread out over lots of acres. Having hiking trails onsite was nice. We hiked the Old Lava trail. We stayed in a standard room with...

We stayed here early Dec.for 3 nights. Unfortunately we could not see the volcano because of the clouds, we did have a great view of the lake however. We took part in the morning walk which was great, even our kids liked it!! The food in the restaurant was quite good and the included breakfast had a lot of choices....

Came here in 2009 and returned again in 2012. Unfortunately the volcano has not erupted for 2-3yrs, tho we saw vapours from the top when the cloud cleared. Go for a Smithsonian room - well worth the extra. Restaurant food is a bit uninspiring and not cheap. If you have transport definitely try Don Rufino's in La Fortuna instead. spent...

We chose this hotel in hopes to see an active volcano. Unfortunately it was not active while we were there although it was a risk I would be willing to make again. The staff was extremely nice, informative, and helpful. We chose the Junior suite. We went in November right on the cusp of rainy season and tourist season so our...

Stayed here for three nights late November and it was everything that we had hoped for. Unfortunately we joined the majority of visitors to this area and never saw the top of the volcano!! this did not spoil the trip as so much to do and we walked every trail on the property including the one to the top of...

This hotel was very nice. The views were superior, the grounds were just beautiful and the food was great too. I would stay here again but if you are driving you CERTAINLY need a 4 wheel drive to get up the mountain. The road is 11km long and it takes about a half hour to get up because you have...

The Arenal Observatory Lodge (or AOL as it is sometimes referred to) was the perfect place for us. The views of the volcano were exceptional and the extensive grounds truly connected us to nature. Every morning we woke up early just to enjoy the environment we were staying at. Our favorite animal sightings were on the lodge's property: toucans, howler...

In Arenal Volcano area, this is the only hotel than has a volcano at their garden. Maybe for many people the location of the hotel is very far from the main town (Fortuna) so if you do not have a car is going to be bad, you need transportation. Well, the hotel has a very nice rooms, excellen volcano view...

We had a very nice stay at Arenal Observatory Lodge, but I must say the road there is unbelievably rough! You must drive about 10 km on this road to get to the lodge. This severely limits your enjoyment of visiting nearby sites and activites. We chose to leave the lodge and return only once per day for this reason....

Situated only 1.7 Miles from the majestic Arenal Volcano and with a spectacular view of Lake Arenal, the Arenal Observatory Lodge (AOL) offers guests the opportunity to DISCOVER, EXPLORE and RELAX. Located within the Arenal Conservation Area and surrounded by rainforests and nature, AOL sits on a 870 acres property, which consists of 400 acres of reforestation, 270 acres of natural forest and 200 acres of cultivated land. The hotel offers 48 comfortable rooms surrounded by gardens, the majority with a direct view of the volcano and/or the forest. The 7 miles of well-maintained trails for walking, horseback riding or biking running through the property provide good opportunities to observe a variety of flora and fauna. Approximately 400 species of birds live in the area making AOL a preferred destination for bird watchers. Activities at the hotel include hikes to the waterfall or to explore Cerro Chato (an extinct volcano with a small lake in the crater), horseback riding, bicycling through the trails, enjoying a refreshing swim in our pool, or simply relaxing with a massage in our SPA. The hotel is well located to serve as a base for a variety of excursions such as: Cano Negro Nature Refuge, hot springs, Venado Caves, Canopy Tours, Arenal Hanging Bridges, Fishing, White Water Rafting, Canyoning, Biking etc. It also serves as a very interesting stop before heading on to Monteverde Cloud Forest or to the beaches of the Pacific coast.
