This is the one of the few places in CR that I wished we could have stayed longer. It's setting is spectacular and the surrounding gardens and walks even more so. This is a nature lovers paradise with a few luxuries like pool and spa thrown in. The gardens and walks are well laid out and you don't have to...

We visited last summer and found the hotel to be very disappointing despite many reviews to the contrary. The desk staff was unconcerned with our comfort or any of our requests. It took over an hour to even get towels for the pool. We were told to come back in 15 minutes several times and we had to walk back...

We spent 2 nights here last summer (2011) and I still dream about it! In fact, I just signed up for Tripadvisor to review this and a couple other of our favorite hot spots in Costa Rica. By far, this is the one place we will return to. So much peace and adventure all in one location. We tend to...

Booked this hotel because the location sounded appealing, and in fact it was. This was the best thing about the hotel. We went hiking on the grounds, and enjoyed some hanging bridges all without leaving the property. The pool was very nice, but unfortunately too cold to use. Service was a little obnoxious and clearly the front desk staff tries...

So worth it to stay here just for the views and the hiking trails. We stayed in La Casona. The bed was not the most comfortable, but the room and shared restroom were clean and tidy. Our room had a view of the volcano that was great. Beware that people come down to the area to bird watch very early...

Stayed with our 2 yr old in Smithonian room. Wonderful view on volcano. (take pictures when you see it free of clouds, as you never know when is going to be next time!). Super well maintained garden and trails, with monkeys around, yu can hear and see them. Plenty of birds etc. great pool and jacuzzi. Restaurant average, with nothing...

This really is an amazing place to stay. Incredible views of the volcano and a real sense that you are in the middle of nowhere. The restaurant is excellent but a bit more expensive that we thought it would be. Taxis to the main town are pricey if you don't have a car. We stayed in one of the Smithsonian...

We truly enjoyed our stay here. This location is probably the closest you can get to the volcano. We stayed in one of the Smithsonian rooms and it has a wonderful view of the volcano from the two beds in the room. We did the guided morning walk after a good sumptous breakfast. You get to see the waterfall and...

I had a two night stay at Arenal Observatory Lodge and choose this hotel because of the description in Lonely Planet. It was a lovely location, the view from my room was spectacular (a corner room with one window facing the volcano and the other Lake Arenal. The grounds were gorgeous and very well maintained, the pool and jacuzzi ,...

Activities at the hotel include hikes to the waterfall or to explore Cerro Chato (an extinct volcano with a small lake in the crater), horseback riding, bicycling through the trails, enjoying a refreshing swim in our pool, or simply relaxing with a massage in our SPA. The hotel is well located to serve as a base for a variety of excursions such as: Cano Negro Nature Refuge, hot springs, Venado Caves, Canopy Tours, Arenal Hanging Bridges, Fishing, White Water Rafting, Canyoning, Biking etc. It also serves as a very interesting stop before heading on to Monteverde Cloud Forest or to the beaches of the Pacific coast.
