We had a very nice stay at Arenal Observatory Lodge, but I must say the road there is unbelievably rough! You must drive about 10 km on this road to get to the lodge. This severely limits your enjoyment of visiting nearby sites and activites. We chose to leave the lodge and return only once per day for this reason....

If you are looking for a very comfortable hotel and the best view possible on the Arenal, this is the place to be! I can't think of anything that is not in order. We booked a Smithsonian room instead of a standard room, which I would highly recommend since the view is astonishing. Though sometimes the view on the Arenal...

We were lucky to be able to book and stay on the best room in this lodge. It is fantastic to wake up in front of the arenal volcano. In the parc it is possible to see incredible things; views, birds, plants, raccoon, a lot of colibris.

We sadly only had a short stay here having lunch and a look around. The rooms look acceptable .. but the view .the volcano, valley, etc.. Oh My Goodness what a view. Staff were very helpful both in the hotel part and in the restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed the meal with very attentive staff.

The Arenal Observatory Lodge was our first stop on our 33 day tour of Costa Rica. We spent 3 nights in a Smithsonian room overlooking the impressive volcano. Pros: spacious, extremely immaculate room with a lovely patio perfect for bird watching during the early morning hours while enjoying a cup of delicious coffee; outstanding staff (Cesar in particular) who went...

This was my 3rd trip to this location and I will be back! The view of the volcano is simply the best - and even without the activity it is unbelievable. The trails are well maintained, the waterfall is beautiful, the food delicious and the staff is superb -- going out of their way to assist in every way. I...

I've been to Arenal Observatory Lodge several times over the last couple of years. The view of the volcano is simply impressive since the moment you do your check-in at the reception desk. Some friends of mine say it's not worth it to stay in this property arguing the volcano doesn't throw lava anymore, I think they're wrong. It's not...

After going down and up a bumpy road you arrive at a wonderful place to view the lake and volcano. We were lucky to book the best room in the lodge with views of the volcano in front of us and the lake to the left right next to the observation deck. Incredible views, birds, plants cannot be described. The...

There are very few rooms on a large property, so it is a great place to “get away”, as opposed to the many choices in or near town. The drive out takes a while, but it is nice to be on an 800-acre property with its own trails. The rooms aren’t fancy or very soundproof, but they are clean and...

This is the one of the few places in CR that I wished we could have stayed longer. It's setting is spectacular and the surrounding gardens and walks even more so. This is a nature lovers paradise with a few luxuries like pool and spa thrown in. The gardens and walks are well laid out and you don't have to...
