My husband and I travel to Costa Rica often to visit family. On this occasion, we wanted a night alone to celebrate our anniversary. When my husband stumbled across the Poas Lodge, we immediately booked it, but I secretly wondered how for $45 a night all of these wonderful reviews could possibly be accurate. They are. Every one of them....

My boyfriend and I arrived after a longer than expected night of travel to Poas Lodge. We were greeted by the extremely friendly Oliver (one of the owners) who offered to open up the kitchen for us and started a super cozy warm fire. He made some typical Costa Rican soup and poured us glasses of red wine as we...

Thank you for taking the time to help us with a review. We are always happy to know guests feel satisfied with their experience here at Poas Lodge. We use fresh, locally sourced produce in our kitchen and will always accommodate special dietery needs. It is our pleasure. Thank you again.

The location is fabulous, as are the views across the central valley. Set amongst rolling pastures with herds of dairy cows, its bright and breezy. Mark cooks from locally sourced fresh wholesome ingredients. Good wines are available, and hospitality is excellent. At over 7,000ft up the volcano there is no vibrant night life.... but cosy nights around the log fire...

Mark and Oliver go beyond hosting you at the lodge - you feel like old friends! When our car broke down they immediately handled everything for us - including driving us to our location for that day and dealing with the rental car company - so we never missed a beat or a planned place to see. They also had...

My husband & I stayed here for our last 2 nights in Costa Rica, and it was by far the coziest, most welcoming, peaceful place we stayed at during our 2-week trip to Costa Rica. The lodge is located on a hilltop that overlooks Alajuela, Heredia, San Jose and lots of other cities. I'll break it down as follows: FOOD:...

Well, the notoriously fickle Poas Volcano was hiding behind fog, clouds, and sulphuric gasses during our visit, but thankfully, our experience at Poas Lodge made up for it. Half restaurant/bar, half lodge, it looks pretty unassuming from the outside. But inside, you'll find a rather sophisticated yet cozy restaurant with an incredible view of the San Jose valley. On the...
