When we arrived there was so safe in our room or hair dryer I asked the staff we got no answers. There is no hot water when you shower. The beds are so firm after two nights my back was spasming we checked out 3 days early and found a new place to stay. The pool was dirty. I wouldn’t stay here again.
Beware, stay only if you dare and please read until the end We spent three nights at this hotel. It got off to a bad start upon arrival. We reserved a double room with a garden view. Looked nice in the pictures, reviews were so-so. We were shown to our room by Luis, a lovely man who works at the front desk. He helped us carry our bags down four flights of stairs until we reached the first level (rooms beginning in the 200’s. The corridor was dirty and dusty. He opened the door to our room and a horrible smell of mold and dampness engulfed us. We immediately told him we would not stay in such a room and together we walked back up the four floors with our suitcases (there was no mention anywhere that the hotel did not have and elevator). The lovely woman at the reception, Jessica offered us another room on the floor below, but advised we would need to pay an additional 40$ a night because this room had a sea view. This time we left our suitcases at the reception and went again with Luis to see the new room. It was just as smelly and was sparsely furnished with a broken wardrobe. Again we said NO. After much thinking, Jessica offered us a room with a pool view for the same additional $40 a night. The room was lovely (502) and we agreed. Happy as can be to finally have a decent room we started unpacking, but low and behold the closet doors were jammed and could not be opened. Back to Jessica who quickly called maintenance. After 15 minutes of spraying and resetting the doors on its tracks we were back in business. We had no longer said good bye to the young gentlemen when we noticed the bathroom door was locked from the inside and the door could not be opened…….took another ten minutes to release the door from the lock. Ok, calm down, it can’t get worse than this. All went well until the next day, when we came back from a full day of activities only to find the plumbing system in our room blocked up. Our young maintenance man came once again, but to no avail. Jessica told us we would need to move to another room, just two doors down. Since we were leaving the next morning we said no problem….packed our bags and went to get the key to room 505. Surprise, surprise the AC did not work. By then we were angry and exhausted. We asked to speak to Laura the manager. After waiting a good 15 minutes she came to speak to us. We told her about our experiences and she offered us compensation of 50% off our dinner at the restaurant. No way lady, I told her we want real compensation. So she then offered to refund us the additional $40 a night x 3 that we paid for the UPGRADE (!!!!) . No more energy to argue any further, I agreed, promising ourselves to let you all know not to get yourselves into this situation. We stayed in 502 and used the bathroom in the lobby. We are usually very easy to please, easy going and rarely complain. Didn’t know whether to laugh or cry (did a bit of both). Do yourselves a favor, stay away, there are plenty of hotels and other accommodations in the area. PS. We’ve waited a week before submitting this review and yet to date we have not yet heard anything about our promised partial refund.…
If you could give it a negative rating it would better suit this place. The Hotel name isn’t the same as on Expedia. I should have checked the room we were getting first. It was dirty looking and only a bed. The fire alarm system wasn’t working and the smoke alarm was covered. The electrical panel in the closet had no cover so could have easily been electrocuted. Ya, the view was okay but the pool looked dirty. So, I have travelled quite a bit and even stayed in hostels. I would have rather stayed in one rather than this place. Worse room ever. Didn’t even unpack. Called around got a room at Margaritaville. Went down cancelled the reservation now in a battle with Expedia. Next chapter.
Do yourself a favor and stay away. If I could rank it a negative number I would. Day 1 we checked in at 7pm and had to wait over 45 minutes for our 2 rooms to be cleaned. Housekeeping and the main desk were not in contact so I had to walk up and down stairs multiple times to check the status of our rooms and I HAD TO LET THE RECEPTIONIST KNOW OUR ROOMS WERE READY!! Not the other way around. She was rude from the start and no one offered to help with bags (there is NO elevator). We should have left at that point. At dinner, the male waiter seemed high and made flirtatious comments. That same night when I was about to climb into bed, my sheets were full of hair. Meaning they had left previous sheets from GOD KNOWS how many guests. My duvet had dirt as well, and even though I informed housekeeping twice, they remade my bed the next day with the same dirty duvet, The rooms are old with pretty much no furniture. The pillows had brown stains and were clumped up and the bed sheets looked about 20 years old. Staying in a motel would have been cleaner. Also, the staff does not clean the halls so they are full of dust, insect bodies and leaves. My bathroom smelled heinous for my entire stay and the soap had been refilled with water. My friend and I showered wearing flip flops because the showers were disgusting. The toilet paper also had red and blue stains as if it had been sprayed with cleaning liquid or gotten wet and still placed in my room to use. Breakfast was cold every single day, so we stuck to packaged yogurt. The silverware and glasses looked dirty too. The view from the dining deck is beautiful, but that is the only positive thing I can say about this place. Parking is uncomfortable, the walls are paper-thin so it is impossible to get quality sleep and safety-wise there is no safe in the rooms, so we had to carry our valuables with us wherever we went. The doors use traditional keys, not key cards. My friend´s door was not even locking up correctly and this made her feel unsafe. Tourists: Guanacaste is mostly safe, but you should never leave valuables unattended in your hotel room. Having a safe is very necessary.…
The views from this hotel is undoubtedly beautiful and we encountered some interesting marine life like giant stingrays, spiny lobsters, and a turtle at the private beach which can only be accessed from this hotel and the one next door but unfortunately we stayed at the beginning of December 2022 when it was under a period of heavy reconstruction works and it was not fit for stay. The construction works are expected to continue for a few months or more so unless you want roof tiles and sharp objects falling on your head and woken up at 6am everyday by the construction workers, I would suggest pick another hotel. Facilities like toilets and pool were closed on certain days due to ongoing works, and it was simply a hazard allowing guests to roam around. We raised this problem to the hotel manager who verbally promised he would refund the stay to us in full however more than a month had gone by and still no refund. They had stopped responding to our follow up emails and no one at the reception had answered our phone calls the past few days, which means as a last resort we will have to escalate this with the credit card company for a chargeback.…
My husband and I have been going here for 5 years and love it. Karla, Esteban, Julio and Sol are truly amazing! Tico breakfast every morning, FABULOUS! Pool is simple and refreshing. A/C and the blackout curtains ROCK! Love it and will continue coming back every year! Casino is still not open but we anticipate it reopening once the marina is complete.
This place was absolutely horrible. We checked in and checked out within the hour. The room was bare. Nothing but a bed, dresser and night tables. The balcony had those cheap plastic chairs. I first tried to change rooms but every room was basically the same. The place is worn out and shabby, paint peeling, anti-slip strips at the pool were peeling, the gazebo was falling apart, A/C only in the rooms and calling it A/C was being kind. Wi-Fi with one bar in the rooms.I could go on..the only bright spots in this tedious and stressing situation were Luis at the front desk and Maria who, I assumed, was in housekeeping. They tried hard to make us happy, but there was no way I could allow this place to ruin another amazing trip to Costa Rica. We moved .3 miles to Margaritaville where we are now. I’ve never done this before. Never had to, but so happy we left the place. If they want to attract international travelers, they need to give this place a serious facelift.…
Wasn’t really Flamingo beach for a start you wouldn’t want to walk as far as that! The room they gave us was in the Dungeon ! definite lack of furniture in the room and none on the balcony if you wanted to sit there !! We drove down the slope which was like a rollercoaster ride as so steep ! Next morning when we went for breakfast - I only had coffee - it’s could be really lovely as stunning view from there ! And pool area looked ok - a few places to sit and enjoy the view !! But they need a few key members of staff who know what they are doing ! Someone obviously local came to complain about the rubbish at the end of the drive although he should have asked to talk to a manager the receptionist just didn’t smushed him ! Probably the worst place we stayed in Costa Rica !!! Although we had stayed in the famous resort on flamingo beach the previous week for a few extra dollars I wish we had gone back…
First of all, the area is very good. It's not tamarindo, it's not super crowded, it's not that touristy(at this hotel at least.). It's cheap, and while the pool isn't that fancy, and the chairs are a little decrepit, you can walk to a private beach, the rooms are solid, the breakfast is good and the staff are lovely. All excursion companies will come pick you up from this hotel, if you're doing it that way. There's something for everyone in costa rica and this is a great affordable option for someone who wants a touch of resort feel without all the corny guests. ALSO, incredible view. Shout out Salma, Duban,m Julio and every awesome person there. Only problems - try to avoid staying underneath where they serve breakfast they set up in the morning and it's loud very early.
This hotel is located in a beautiful bay. Everything else is bad - bad service, rooms not clean, terrible breakfast and the worst of all - we didn't have running water in the shower and bathroom. We booked 3 nights, left after the first. The only negative hotel experience we had in two weeks in Costa Rica.
