we visited two beach resorts on our first trip to CR. One was in Tamarindo, the other Margaritaville in playa famingo. Similar prices, but different experiences. I would say that the room in Margaritaville was a bit bigger, especially the bathroom, and overall very comfortable. Beyond that, they really were a subpar experience. The beach- there are no areas where you can lounge facing the ocean on hotel property - want to lounge ocean side you need to rent chairs and a tent from a vendor Included Breakfast - the dining area is very small. On two days, our group of 6 had to wait for a table. The selection is rather sparse. Compared to Tamarindo, Margaritaville only had regular coffee, no expresso / cappuccino options. A lot of the items looked like they were just heated product from a mass producer. Only orange juice compared to a range of juices at our other resort. Internet - horrible. The best connect I could get was 1.5 Mps, and we frequently were bumped off. Additional dining and drinks- This was really frustrating. The bars price their drinks in dollars, but then ring up in colones at a very poor rate. We ordered two beers and some fries which priced at $10US, but rang up at 641 colones to the dollar, plus the 10%service and 13% tax. Then when we went to pay at checkout and it was converted back to dollars at 570/dollar. Overall I think there is better value for your dollar elsewhere.…
We have been at Margaritaville for just over a week and it has been the most enjoyable stay we have ever had. Ultimately, credit for our perfect holiday goes to the hotel staff. Firstly, I would like to thank Rosaura, the hotel's wedding coordinator. We had a wonderful beach wedding at sunset. Our wedding day was perfect and we got everything we asked for and more. Rosaura was there from beginning to end. Mostly we communicated via email and I worried about how the wedding would turn out. She put me at ease and made the planning process simple and straightforward. We got married in a breathtaking location. After walking through the trees on the beach, we were rewarded with a breathtaking view of the ocean. Beautiful tropical flowers were used to cover our beach arch. It looked perfect. After the wedding, we held the reception at the hotel. Again, the set up was stunning, it just looked magical. Our waiter that evening was Eduardo. A real asset to the hotel. All our guests loved him and nothing was too much trouble for him. A second member of staff served drinks at our own lawn bar. I want to thank him too! As everyone was getting me drinks, I never made it to the bar, so I don't know his name. Paul & Matt was his signature cocktail. Once again, he was fantastic and made our evening even better. Unfortunately, we did not meet the chef who prepared our dinner. The dinner was delicious, and the presentation was impeccable. We are so glad we arranged our reception dinner through the hotel. My jaw dropped when I saw how wonderful it was. My chef truly excelled, went above and beyond, and really made our wedding day special. I would also like to mention the beautiful Rosaura again. I sent her a picture of a wedding cake I found on the Internet and asked if it could be made. She made it exactly as per the photo. Quite amazing. Wow! As part of my review, I'd like to mention Eduardo (again) and Margarite, as well as the pool bar staff and the 5 O'clock Somewhere bar staff. At this beautiful hotel, everyone works so hard and goes out of their way to make sure that you have a wonderful stay. Their welcoming nature is unsurpassed and the hotel is very accommodating to guests. I would like to extend my gratitude to them all. Everything about this place is wonderful. The rooms are comfortable and clean, the pool is huge, and the beach is simply divine. It's truly a paradise.…
I came to Costa Rica to do sport fishing with my family. We were only here for 3 days so only had one chance to go out fishing. Major Tours Costa Rica by Minor Gonzalez was very recommended to help us find a boat. He was very helpful got us a boat within the hour. We were able to go out a half day in the morning (very recommended to catch fish). In the first minute of trolling we had already caught 3 fish. Tuna bonita. The trip was great and the boys really enjoyed them selfs. In the end we caught 13 tuna bonita and 1 mahi-mahi. Can’t wait to come back to Costa Rica and do a week fishing trip with Major Tours!
We came to the Margaritaville Hotel for two weeks. Flamingo beach is stunning and the perfect place to watch the sunset, this is on your door step. The staff are brilliant, can’t do enough for you. Janet and the team at the 5oclock somewhere bar are great, attentive and friendly. The food and cocktails are lovely and fresh. Our room was standard but nice. The bathroom needs updating we had some issues with that and had to have maintenance out a few times. The housekeeping wasn’t great, they didn’t change the bedding, didn’t clean the bathroom properly or sweep the balcony or floors in the room. The hotel itself though is wonderful, the staff in the restaurants and bars are what make this resort a lovely place to be. Pura Vida!!
Overall, we had a nice time at the Margaritaville Beach Resort at Playa Flamingo. The hotel is small enough that it felt safe and friendly so that we could allow the children to move about and have fun. The beach is beautiful and the staff at the resort were mostly friendly, though many of them did not speak English. The food was delicious, especially the fresh fruit, the buffet, and the Italian restaurant. We were, however, a bit disappointed with the shabby room accommodations. Staff at the 5:00 Somewhere restaurant were not friendly and we saw one bartender prepare a drink and put the excess in the palm of his hand and drink it. Then he went back to put fruit on the drinks. Needless to say, we did not return to that restaurant. We were also astounded at the inconvenient beach towel restrictions and availability. …
Safe all-inclusive hotel with a humongous swimming pool, excellent service, awesome food, and security. Luxurious grounds, and a hammock was on our lanai. Delightful music and atmosphere. Non-smoking.
Nice place, friendly staff. Pool was lovely but there were not enough sunbeds or umbrellas for number of guests. Guests reserved the beds in the early hours of the morning which was annoying especially when sometimes they weren't used until lunchtime! We expected sunbeds to be available on the beach as advertised but there weren't any. None of the restaurants or bars had any vegetarian dishes on the menu, other than french fries so options are really limited if you don't eat meat or fish. The buffet didn't cater for vegetarians either, other than mainly salads. Rooms are good size, beds comfortable but we were there for a week and our bedding was not changed at all during the stay. The views of the sunset from the beach or the bar were amazing. The hotel is a short walk from a marina and a shopping area with a few restaurants, bars, gift shops and small supermarket …
Overall we’d give it an average rating. Pros: family room was huge with fridge, microwave and coffee maker (but the full size beds were not comfortable for me and 6’4” husband). Pool was nice. Food was pretty good. Beach was beautiful (but very public and across a small dirt road from resort). Cons: there was NOTHING to do onsite, which is very unusual for an all inclusive. We were there 6 days and there was a water aerobics class most days and one day there was water polo game. Not one single other activity at the pool or beach. Some days not even music at the pool. There were a few game tables inside - and a movie theatre in the kids area where you could only see Disney plus movies. All of this was very bizarre for a margarittaville facility which should have a party and tropical vibe. Next major negative: out of 5 nights, only 2 nights had any evening entertainment. One night a dj and one night a single singer. Literally NOTHING to do on site!! Crazy. Next: wi fi in rooms was non existent. Staff said there was a problem with company providing wi fi to rooms and they didn’t know when it would be fixed. Wi fi near the pool was fine. This was really frustrating especially since you couldn’t even watch a movie on Netflix in your room because there was no way to get on line. Finally: raccoons. People thought it was funny that there were wild raccoons running under the tables in the outdoor restaurant on the second floor. It was terrifying, unhygienic and dangerous. No one cared! All this said, if you’re looking for an extremely quiet trip and want to read a book by the pool (we read several each!!), at a middle of the road facility, this is fine. Be warned there is nothing to walk to nearby and the airport is 1.5 hours away.…
Just checked in. No wifi in room. Called operator and was told some rooms have bad or no wifi. Went to front desk and asked them to confirm that some rooms have bad wifi. They confirmed and that we could only use wifi in the lobby or common areas. I asked to be moved to a room with wifi (I have a work call during vaca, that’s another story). They said none of those rooms were available tonight. I asked about tomorrow…and then was told no rooms have wifi. That seemed untrue and something to make me go away. It’s obvious that wifi is an issue and that some rooms have bad wifi (check other reviews).
The hotel is clean and located so close to the beach. The staff are incredibly friendly, from the front desk to everyone in the restaurants. Jeannett was awesome! Beautiful property with a nice pool. Thank you!
