Pros - Almost right on the beach Breakfast is nice and with a beautiful view to the sea. Nice reception. There is a hammock in the room, and you can even see the beach and the sea from the room (it's very close). There is a safe in the room. Cons - The rooms that come without the air conditioner... We haven't stayed there in many years, but it was wonderful then. It was simpler and more beautiful. There was much less environmental damage. However, we WOULD NOT stay there now. They use the practice of burning to get rid of their garbage. It's bad enough to be in the area when this happens, but as a guest I cannot... More

I came here for a meal before the jaguar tour (five minute walk away). My typical plate was small and overpriced; there were tons of fruit flies everywhere, and I was expecting a bigger plate for my ~$10 meal! There was a good tea selection, and the grounds looked nice.

We had a great time here! Nice pools, nice rooms, great service and food, although breakfast was a little messy and they run out of some options pretty early. Location is perfect, beach front, ocean view, beach access, at 5 minutes away from town. Will recommend it to anyone!

What a wonderful hotel! Not super fancy, definitely not five-star, but it had everything that was important to us: A+++ location, gorgeous beach, fantastic pool, beautiful grounds, nice restaurant, excellent FREE breakfast (served daily until 11 am), and free wi-fi in the room (better in some rooms than others). We had a "junior villa" with cold AC, ceiling fan, KING-size... More

We stayed in a Standard Room for three nights. It had a beautiful view of the Pool, Grounds, and Ocean. The Standard Rooms are in a separate building from the Villas, and are all upper level so views were as promised on the web site, photos of room were just as we found it, not always the case in other... Right on the water, not too far from Puerto Viejo, in the direction of Panama. The "cabins" we stayed in are two-story units in groups of 4. PROS: many including the pool and the freshwater showers poolside; lavish availability of towels; wildlife rehab center about 300 m away, wonderful, don't miss it; nice traditional Tico breakfast of eggs and gallo... Ok, this hotel is not perfect. It's a mid range budget hotel, so this review takes that into consideration. It is perfectly situated BEACH FRONT with a pool no less, and just that is enough to warrant to full marks given!! That said: PROS: Great spot right on the beach with fabulous landscaping and a great pool. We had a... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Life is at its tranquil best at Villas del Caribe. The days go something like this: You wake to the sound of bird songs and a view from your bed of silvery palms and clear blue sea. You throw open the sliding doors and take to the hammock on the balcony for a little rest, refreshed by the ocean breeze. You may now be ready to take a dip in our swimming pool and enjoy the elevated thatched Jacuzzi for a relaxing massage.Once the lure of the sea becomes too much, you wander through the landscaped gardens onto the beach path, where you face a decision between the long, deserted golden sand beach to the left or the many pristine golden sand beaches to the right. You settle for one of the shallow, sandy natural lagoons formed by the coral reef right offshore, and watch tropical fish wiggle past your toes. After a fresh water shower on your terrace, you walk over to the SeaSide Restaurant for breakfast or a snack, then you take a bike and cycle down the flat paved road past fields, forest, a few thatched bars and restaurants to Puerto Viejo for coffee or a drink, the local gossip, and some good, fresh fish at the beachfront store. You spend the afternoon alternating between the beach and the sea, the loungers on the terrace, and the hammocks on the balcony. ... more   less
