We did a tour with Exploradores in torteguero and stayed the night at La Boula lodge. It was only us there which was nice but also kind of erie. The food (despite reviews) was great!! The rooms had everything you needed, but walking from the sleeping quarters into the bathroom was night and day. Bedroom area was beautiful with dark... More

La Baula lodge definitely exceeded our expectations, even though they were already pretty low we ended up quite enjoying our 1 night stay. The stay were friendly and courteous, the drinks at the bar were plentiful with alcohol, and the menu at the restaurant had lots of options and the food, though not 5 star worthy, definitely was not bad... The lodge is exactly as it sounds we stayed there as part of a tortuguero tour package. First you need to know that in order to get there you have to take a canal boat ride. It's a nice ride and very safe on a motorized covered river boat it sits low in the water but after 5 minutes you... More

Nice and clean hotel with good service. It has its own pool, restaurant and bar and is located on one of the islands, about 5 minutes by boat from the main island. The happy hour at the bar with swings instead of barstools offered a nice way of passing time while we waited for our turtle-watching tour. The staff was very... More

If you are looking for luxury and upscale amenities this is not your place to stay. If you want nature, serene environment with not too much regard for updated accommodation then you will enjoy here. Rooms are cabins that have seen better days but are clean. The walls are paperthin and you can easily follow the conversation going on in... More

Superb value and a lovely friendly place. Easy access to the pueblo by boat taxi, and no-frills but comfy accommodation....what do you expect, it's in the jungle after all ! Great breakfasts and wonderful wildlife ( including the famous howler monkey alarm clock). Would definitely go back.

What an amazing stay. Accessible only by water, the hotel was in paradise. Small rooms, no a/c, fan was slow but well kept and maintained. The garden view was amazing and so well kept. We saw toucans right from the balcony. Night life is very active here. Turtle nestign season was off but the trip was still worth it. We... More

I'll start with the bad - no AC and one of the hottest places in CR makes it really hard to sleep. It's Beatle season so Beatles are EVERYWHERE not that they can control it but at least put up a net around the dinner place. Beatles get in and around your food, in your rooms etc. the only thing... Howler Monkeys woke us up early in the morning (which was good because we had a very early tour). Such a cool experience. Lots of wildlife around the lodge. The service was great, and the price of the food at the restaurant was good and not really overpriced like I expected. Small things to consider, because you're across the river... More

La Baula is wonderful shaded lodging in the jungle, away from the heat and noise of the village. Howler monkeys wake you in the mornings. Beautiful tropical birds abound. The grounds are exquisitely maintained and the staff is friendly. Although not quite fine dining, on the whole the food was very tasty. Our room had a ceiling fan, which kept... More
