At a risk of being accused of bias I have to say that of the many places I have travelled around the world Tortuga Lodge is still my favourite place on the planet! Situated in an idyllic position in the midst of a beautiful country, it's remoteness adds to the attraction. Only accessible by boat or light aircraft it is...

After looking into trying to book everything independently I decided there wasn't much in it cost wise and booked the complete two night package with Kevyn at Costa Rica Expeditions. Kevyn always responded to our email enquiries promptly and took care of all our needs. We were advised of our pick up time the day before by both email and...

This is such a special place. From the moment you land, which looks like it's on the beach when your coming down to land. Lovely short boat trip across the river to the lodge with the staff waiting and waving to greet you. Great welcome with details about the lodge we were shown to our gorgeous room on the second...

Stayed for 2 nights 23rd and 24th April. From the minute we were picked up in San Jose this trip was amazing. We travelled to the lodge by bus and boat which takes a longtime due to the low water level of the river but the scenery was incredible. The lodge is stunning with open windows to hear the animals...

We spent 3 great days at Tortuga Lodge and enjoyed the sounds of nature (as the lodge has moskito-protections instead of windows), fantastic experience! The lodge, its staff, food and excursions to the rainforest are highly recommendable!

The journey to get to the Lodge is a little gruelling as we were out of the rainy season, the boat trip took just over 2 hours, however Willis kept it interesting pointing out lots of animal and birds along the way. PS make sure that you have sun cream to hand as although we were in a covered boat,...

Dear EmmaKaid, We are very grateful for your review and so sorry that you were ill and unable to really enjoy your time at the lodge. Your advice about using sunscreen is so important, we recommend that guests always use good quality sunblock and put it on even if they are in a covered boat. It's worth taking it even...

Around Tortuguero you basically have two choices - economy hostels and upscale, luxury hotels. But "luxury" is relative - at the Tortuga Lodge there's no AC, the restaurant menu is limited (and pretty expensive), and service is friendly but not fantastic. The rooms have fabulous full-size screens instead of glass, which lets in whatever breeze is available, which is great...

It's super important for everyone to do their research and figure out if the hotels that you are going to are a good fit. This review was written by a person that wasn’t a good fit for our lodge. We do a lot to identify people that may not be well suited to a remote lodge in the lowland tropical...

Beautiful hotel, quiet except for the screaming monkeys in the morning, excellent service but beware: I paid upon reservation and when I arrived they denied having received it.
