This was the worst facility we stayed in on our 10 day stay in Costa Rica. Luckily, it was our first stop so the accomodations got better from there. The staff & the food there were great!!! This was the only positive aspect of the resort. The rooms were very basic with 2 beds and a nightstand. Cement walls and...

To being: The customer service at this hotel is amazing. The staff were welcoming and very kind. However the rooms were worse than dirt outside of the "hotel".The "hotel" has the potential to be a great after much needed and extensive renovation and replacement of every piece of furniture.I would not recommend staying here no matter the circumstance.

I just finished the longest Tortugero nature trail with fantastic guides from Ilan Ilan Caribbean Lodge. The students study the flora, fauna, amphibians, trees and can answer any question. Bring your camera and the hotel furnishes rubber boots. The hotel has a pool and jacuzzi plus delicious meals served family style. The hotel manager is very helpful plus speaks english,...

Staying in this hotel was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. The rooms were simple but satisfactory. The location, view, and service more than made up for any minor discomforts. The setting provides an incomparable view of nature and the staff cares for the tenets like family.

This was a great location out of town with monkeys and a great potoo on the grounds. Room was basic but clean and comfortable. Enjoyed sitting outside on the patio relaxing and reading. Water wasn't hot, but we only had hot water at one place in CR, so that was not unusual -- and not a big deal in a...

We stayed here for two nights and it was horrible. The room was disgusting. There was cockroach poop everywhere. The shower was cold en dirty. The beds were so bad that we couldn't sleep at all. The people tried to be nice but didn't say anything. The sidewalk was very slippery and we both fell a couple of times. Too...

Although the rooms were tiny, hot, and the bathroom had no toilet paper, the overall experience was pretty good. The people were great, and the food, especially the fruit cocktails, was some of the best we had on my trip. Their were two very well behaved and sweet dogs on the grounds, and the view of the canal was amazing....

Ilan Ilan is a no-frills, rustic resort with warmth, charm and great hospitality. If you're looking for an upscale pampered vacation, don't stay here. But if you enjoy peaceful, rustic surroundings and the beauty of nature, you're going to love this place! Yes, you might find cockroach feces, but guess what? I found them in an ultra clean, upscale villa...

Ilan Ilan may not offer all the amenities everyone is looking for, but does offer a truly unique experience. Accessible only by boat and located in the middle of the Costa Rican forest made Ilan Ilan one of my favorite places to visit while in Costa Rica. Sure the rooms are plain and simple and could be improved slightly, but...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
We hope you will enjoy it with us. We start our adventure from San Jose at the National Theater, built in 1897 and considered to be one of the most beautiful theaters in Latin America. On our way out from the Central Valley, we pass through the Braulio Carrillo National Park. Its landscape is entirely made of high mountains covered by thick forest and deep, fast flowing rivers forming deep canyons. After a technical stop at the cafeteria and a visit to the banana plantation, we'll start the best part of the trip: we will depart to TORTUGUERO aboard small tourist boats specifically designed to travel through the canals. During 70 km of rivers, canals rivers and and lagoons traveling by boat you will enjoy the diversity in flora & fauna in its natural environment. Tortuguero National Park is located on the Northern Caribbean slope of the country. A navigable network of lakes and canals running parallel to the coast crosses Tortuguero from southeast to northwest. This allows the great variety of flora & fauna of the region to be close at hand. Tortuguero is the most important nesting area for the green turtles Chelonia mydas which come every year to lay their eggs along this coast.Tortuguero has one of the heaviest rainfalls in the country (between 5000 to 6000 mm a year) and it is one of the wilderness areas with the greatest biological diversity. Today, 11 habitats have been identified in the Park, alone. The fauna is also rich and abundant, and easy to find: monkeys, sloths, crocodiles, iguanas, turtles (rivers and sea turtlessss), parrots, toucans,Blue-jeans Frog or Strawberry Poison-dart Frog (Dendrobates pumilio) Spanish name: Ranita roja, Gaspar Fish a living fosil, manaties and much more. ... more   less
