We stayed for 3 nights with 2 kids aged 10 and 12. I must say that this was the most epic of starts to our Costa Rican vacation. As a family we really enjoyed the small number of people at this hotel. We met so many interesting people that became friends in the short time we were there, between the tours and sitting out on the patio in the evening. We truly enjoyed every meal we had there and had many options, the food felt authentic, yet upscale. The staff there spoke excellent English (one of our guides used the word "hyperbole" - seriously??!!). The rooms are not luxurious but suffice. I love fans, I prefer them to AC, but my husband was pretty warm the entire time. The beds are hard, but we found this throughout Costa Rica. The porch and unbelievable views make up for any of this tiny issues. Note: We would keep your stuff not on the floor and keep all your stuff zipped away, we found a scorpion in our stuff and our daughter had left a Chips Ahoy bag in her bag that attracted a zillion ants (totally our fault). The pool was small but fun and probably our kids favorite because of how deep it was. The slide was very fast! It even might have been a little too fast for our one daughter, but she kept going back, so....I guess she was fine :) There was no Wifi in our room, but we had card games which we played as a family, and you can access WiFi on the grand porch at the "lodge". It's important to note that you won't have much in the afternoons, other than to relax and enjoy the property. In terms of activities we did the white water rafting and aqua hike. Loky, the owner, comes around at dinner each night and sees what everyone is up to and helps to create a schedule. He insisted that the rafting would not be too scary. With two kids who have never been rafting before I was really close to cancelling. I am so glad we did not. This was not "thrill" rafting, it was somewhat on the tamer end of rafting (although where was definitely thrilling parts). Our guide did the majority of the work on our rafting trip, as our kids couldn't really steer too well. The other boat had teenagers in it and they did more work. You can also "ride" the front of the raft, float in the river, and they even were all standing up at one point. These tours were SMALL (it was just two groups). Overall the tours and activities here were SO MUCH more intimate than anything else we did in Costa Rica. Kenneth was our guide (you read of him often in here) and he is just as amazing as everyone says. You have a little bit (maybe 10 minutes?) of a walk, on which he teaches you about all sorts of plants we were walking by in the rainforest. His love for nature and life and people explores from him. He took us over to a waterfall, painted mud on kids faces, and let us enjoy the nature. The views while you are rafting are just --- incredible. You really feel like you are rafting in the middle of nowhere. I am beyond glad I did this. We did the aqua hike with Randol, who was another exceptional ambassador of Costa Rica. Loky really hires the best, it might be his best skill as a business owner. The hike starts with a long walk up a road, which is pretty steep at times. This was less than interesting (although it is where my husband was fortunate enough to get to eat termites - I passed). Randol's intense knowledge of the area in which he lives is evident. He is constantly observing what is going on around him and what flora and fauna are around him. He is not as effervescent as Kenneth, but that isn't a bad thing, he is just different. His is a more quiet passion and caring. Once you get to the trails into the water area it gets really fun. Randol encouraaged us to explore, get wet, climb, and be connected and engaged with the area. For me (always nervous), his confidence and eye to safety made me feel so confident and willing to try things I would not do on my own. Overall, Randol gave us such a personal connection in sharing places and experiences that were personal to him that it remains one of the stand out activities of an over 2 week trip. Our trip here ended in pretty epic fashion as a huge rain storm washed out the bridges and there was really no way in or out (Loky said this was NOT something that had happened often, maybe 2x). The staff at Rafiki helped us get out, we crossed a river with the staff and our bags, walked along the river, crossed another section, and got driven out eventually by the Maureen, Loky's wife. They could have had us just stay at the hotel (which we would have loved!), but they literally went above and beyond to get us to our next lodging. How many times can you say that? This is one of my favorite memories of the trip. Overall this was the one place that felt authentic and made us feel like we were experiencing something unique to Costa Rica, versus something we could have done anywhere else. If I could recommend any one place or one activity to do in Costa Rica, it was be here. It will live in our hearts forever. My only regret is not doing their beach lodge or getting a family picture, because this place is what I would want to frame a picture of for my house. Ugh!

Rafiki is the place to go if you are looking for both adventure and absolute relaxation. They offer exciting activities but time can be spent relaxing on the balcony of your tent or from the lodge. It has a very laid back vibe and a plethora of wildlife to keep you entertained.

The staff is incredibly friendly, the resort is beautiful, and it is wonderful to be out in the jungle away from everything else. We highly recommend this experience. The tent cabins are comfortable (not super fancy glamping, but everything you need) and they are nestled away in the jungle. We really enjoyed the river rafting trip and the waterfall hike. Kenneth, our guide, was amazing.

Great stay with the family ( kids aged 11/9). Stayed for two nights in number 1. Great view. Comfortable beds. The water slide was a lot of fun. Cocktails and fresh pineapple juice were delicious. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and helpful. We walked to our rafting location. Highly recommend rafting!

We were blessed to stay at the lodge, making many new friends with the staff and the owner. A great experience in the rainforest with hiking trails. Also an adventure as a 10 year flood took out the road and some heavy machinery had to be called in to repair it for our departure. Our 5 year old loved the tent experience as did we! Hope to return to Rafiki again soon.

We had an amazing experience at Rafiki. The whole staff was attentive and provided an outstanding service. Even though we got hit with a tropical storm, they did everything to make us feel safe and when was time for us to leave they clear our path safely and made sure that we were out on the main road on time for our departure. Food is delicious! This is the real spirit of glamorous camping. My 3 year old and my 6 year old had a blast playing in the river and doing nature walks. We would definitely come back! Thanks again Rafiki Staff!!!!

We spent two lovely nights at the Rafiki Safari Lodge and totally enjoyed our stay. The “tents” were luxurious and super comfortable. The food was excellent. And the staff was absolutely lovely. A very relaxing place. We did the rafting trip. It was rollicking good fun and the waterfall stop was spectacular. Even our 80 year old was comfortable; her anxiety quickly turned to smiles.

As nice as the private lodging and the good food were, the people make this a great place to stay. Locals with a passion for the natural environment of the area lead us on hikes and river rafting, teaching us in a fun and easy manner. I am not confident in the water, but I was glad I did the rafting. We were also glad we did the night hike with Randol, who took great pictures with everyone’s phones.

This was our third time visiting Costa Rica and we wanted to stay somewhere off-the-beaten path. We read the good reviews, and now we'd like to add our own. The service was exceptional. Rey (sp?) was a great concierge and made sure we always had activities organized for us. My 11 year old son was particularly impressed by his friendliness. It was great to be able to do organized activities straight from where we were staying. We did horseback riding, the water hike, the night hike, and white water rafting (though had it been pretty dry and the water wasn't too white), all from Rafiki. I love birding, too, and I saw so many species just walking around the grounds. The pool and water slide were great for our kids, aged 11, 14, and 17. They went down the slide so many times our first two days there they were too sore to do it on the last day! It is fast! The views from the pool, restaurant/bar, and even the tents are incredible. The rooms were great. Even though they are based on tents, I wouldn't really say were were roughing it. The bathrooms were huge and modern and there was plenty of electricity to charge our devices and keep cool. I was nervous about being too hot at night for sure, but it cooled off nicely and we even made use of our blankets. The food was delicious with two or three options at each meal, plus one for kids. My kids loved ordering Fantas and smoothies at the bar, and we adults enjoyed the grown up beverages as well. They have a nice variety of interesting cocktails. Lastly, a huge shout out to the amazing staff. The kitchen, restaurant, desk, and cleaning staff were so efficient and friendly, as were Rey and Loki, our hosts. Huge special thanks to our amazing guides Alan, Kenneth, and Randol. These guys were knowledgeable, friendly, positive, and really worked hard to make sure we had a fantastic time.
