I just want to single out Cocal's full time concierge, Juliana Venegas. Her English is very good and her attitude is exceptional. Whether you are visiting for the fishing or to see the sites, you will find Juli is very helpful and knowledgeable in arranging your activities to include transportation. I have been visiting Jaco for four years now and am always glad to see Juli at her desk next to reception.

Ok, just got back from the cocal last week and here is a in depth and truthful review. This is a place for single men looking for prostitutes. If you are with your girlfriend, wife, kids, co-workers, this place is not for you, do not even visit. However, if you want some chicas, here is what it is: the girls will approach you every now and then, but most just sit and wait for their regulars or to be approached by someone interested. The average charge is 100 usd. The hotel itself is clean enough. Think more holiday inn and less marriott. Thursday is a busy night because it's the only spot, friday and saturday are good enough but other bars in jaco are also busy, and sunday is very slow. Sometimes security won't let you take your own drink from your room to the pool area, unless you tip him, of course. As for the beach, it sucks. Nice to look at, but you don't want to mess with those waves. If you want to go in the water to swim or jet ski, drive 15 min. to playa herradura, it is absolutely beautiful and perfect for that. Jet Ski's are $60/ half hr. at herradura, just go into any shop and ask them for Ivan with the jet ski's, they'll call him and he'll come to you. Book the 2 hour atv tour ($65) with the hotel for an awesome time, and make sure you get the empanadas at your stop on top of the mountains. Soda Jaco Rustico is walking distance and has great food at a great price. Monkey Bar is good when cocal closes pool bar at 2am or on a slow night. A lot of drunk, horny, viagara takers here make it a very akward and loud place. Great place to stay if you are coming first and foremost for the girls, otherwise, there are nicer places to stay in Costa Rica, not Jaco. Oh, the beds here are terrible. But you don't come here to sleep!

This is the place you want to be if staying in Jaco. Both the pool bar and the casino are frequently by the local ladies looking to party (be careful of your valuables) and you are walkingvdifference to anything on the strip. Cabs are also readily available to take you anywhere you wish. If there's a group of you, you may want to check out the Vista Mar Condos associated with the hotel. I've been going there prior to Vista Mar even being built, so I have seen the many changes in Jaco, which unfortuatley includes the pick-pockets....be careful, but enjoy. If you decide to stay elsewhere, stop by the Casino Cocal at night and you will see why I recommend this hotel.

Spent a few days here, had a room facing the Ocean, and also a door to the pool bar. Staff are amazing. Hotel Restaurant is OUTSTANDING. Beach is great, downtown area was fine. Hotel staff make the stay/trip outstanding. Casino area is, sadly, a joke, and I am not 100% sure, but I don't get the impression they want anyone in there. Roulette and Rummy are only table games, and Roulette is a 30 dollar minimum. I did not see ONE other person in there the entire stay. This is def for adults, but everyone was well behaved, and they will leave you alone graciously if you politely decline. Overall, outstanding hotel, very good room service daily. Beautiful Beach, Pool, and Restaurant. Recommend highly; but, not a place for kids due to the atmosphere, esp at night.

We recently had two groups staying at the Vista Mar next to Cocal. While at the resort pool (12-3pm) we had approx 2K stolen from four different safes in two rooms. A review of security surveillance video revealed maids and the managers sister entered the room. When we attempted to contact the police we were told to walk 2 miles to OIJ. After making a report with OIJ (Costa Rican FBI) they responded and questioned the staff. The manager Allen refused to assist us and advised the only key to the safes was in his possession (and his sister was on the surveillance going to the room). When we involved the OIJ we were threatened with them placing a hold on our passports while the investigation is ongoing. The group took the loss and enjoyed our vacation in spite of that dishonest staff and disregard for any customer service. Costa Rica is a great country, the OIJ were very helpful but stay clear of these crooks.

My husband and I came here and we were stunned and could not leave fast enough. By 9pm it was filled with prostitutes coming in by cab and filling the pool area. It was truly surprising and I feel like this needs to be clearly stated here and to anyone choosing to come here. I know that there are men who will choose this location for this activity but a lot of us who consult trip advisor are not looking for recommendations on prostitution. This should be clearly stated on the website and all places looking for upstanding establishments to visit. Several reviews state this is not a family hotel but that is not near clear enough. We came with no idea what we were in for and couldn't leave fast enough.

We apologize for your unpleasant experience at our hotel. Our hotel is inclusive to all lifestyles without discrimination. Our business is selling rooms, food, beverages, and entertainment in our casino. That's it. What our guests choose to do, as long as it is within Costa Rican law, is their business. We do not participate in any commercial interest beyond our core business of rooms, food, beverages, and gaming. We neither condone or condemn the legal and respectful behavior some of our guests choose to engage in. Again, sorry you were not happy with your stay.

Yes, I'm sure they will be happy to have your business at the restaurant, bar and casino whether you are a guest or not.

I paid slightly less than $100 per night, but that was during the low season and I called the hotel directly to book room. I do believe that $100 to $140 is typical. There are other hotels within walking distance that are priced lower, but Cocal is a nice hotel by CR standards.
