Detailed Reviews
My boyfriend and I recently spent 4 wonderful nights at the Agua Vista Bamboo Bungalow. The accommodations were affordable, beautiful, and clean with gorgeous views and quick access to the trails. We saw just as much wildlife (Coatis, Agouti, Capuchin monkeys, Howler Monkeys, snakes etc.) on the property as we did on our many hikes.
Alex and Khalida were so friendly and accommodating. They had lots of helpful tips regarding Montezuma and Costa Rica. Even though they were away during much of our stay, Alex gave us his cell number and encouraged us to call should we need anything.
My only caution regarding this property, is that it is a 25-30 min dirt road then steep downhill walk into Montezuma, with a recommended $8 taxi ride back up. This keeps the property nice and quiet but ideal for people with a vehicle or who are physically able to do the walk daily, should you plan to go into town.
I would definitely recommend this property to anyone visiting the Montezuma area!

Agua Vista was the perfect ending to a great vacation. Khalida and Alex welcomed our family with open arms. We stayed in the Casa Trogon, which had 2 bedrooms, super clean kitchen, outdoor shower and nice cool plunge pool. Since we're in the hospitality biz as well, with a bunch of small cottages at Lake Tahoe we really felt right at home. Keep in mind that this is the jungle, not the Ritz, neither is our place. It was just what we wanted. We saw monkeys within 5 minutes of arrival. After a dip in the pool before bed the jungle sounds will sing you to sleep. The clothes washer was also great, since things can get funky quick in the jungle air. We loved the outdoor shower. Khalida even had some coffee along with a French press for us in the cottage, just in case we arrived empty handed.
Montezuma is a great place, with a chill vibe and loads of local artists and some good surf. On Khalida and Alex's recommendations we enjoyed some of the best food in Costa Rica at Pugoos and Cocolina's. Both of whose chefs could work in any kitchen any where. The food was that amazing. Be sure the try the ceviche at both. They are completely different experiences and both to die for.
Be sure to check in with the Turtle sanctuary on the main beach. We lucked out and got to see over 100 baby riddleys released. A once in a lifetime experience for us and the kids.
All in all this was a favorite place in all of Costa Rica. We wish Alex and Khalida all the best from Lake Tahoe. Dick and Ulli White - Innkeepers, Tahoma Meadows B&B Cottages, Lake Tahoe CA.

We stayed in Casa Morfo with two children under the age of 8 after staying nearer the centre of Montezuma. It was peaceful with beautiful views and safe for the children to explore. A lovely communal swimming pool plus your own small plunge pool, very helpful knowledgeable couple run the houses. Very well kitted out kitchen so you can cook proper family meals with a microwave, hob, smoothie maker, lots of pots and pans, plates, cutlery etc, fast wifi in house, washing machine, everything clean and fresh and stylish. You can walk to waterfalls. It would be helpful to have a car to get to Montezuma as its high up in the hills above but we managed fine for 3 nights using taxis. I would really recommend staying here for a family especially if you are looking for somewhere peaceful.

Arrived at the hotel, put valuables in the safe, went to dinner, came back and everything had been stolen. The safe was forced open with perhaps a crowbar, clearly an inside job, perhaps a disgruntled employee familiar with the place. Completely ruined our trip, the resort has zero security and at the end of a mile long driveway, on first view charming a remote, on second view remote and vulnerable. The hotel owner has no insurance and accepts no liability even within the safe provided. Avoid until this high crime area gets security guard.

We find it astonishing that six months after your visit you are writing this review. As we told you repeatedly during your stay -- while you cursed Costa Rica, made accusations to us, bribed the local police, complained about Montezuma, and used our personal mobile devices (and email!) so that you could make business arrangements -- we are horrified and sorry that this happened to you. We would NEVER want anything like this to happen to any of our guests. We were as stunned as you were by the audacity of the thief and have since taken much greater measures to prevent this from ever happening again, including stronger window locks, installing security cameras, new safes, and more. Our two person staff has been with us for years and we are deeply offended that you would suspect them (or us!) of doing anything to jeopardize their livelihood. We were saddened that you did not have any travel insurance that might have covered your loss. Costa Rica (which is not the United States) does not have available any type of rental home insurance that would have covered this - otherwise, we would have it! The insurance companies say this is because there is no way to prove what items people are traveling with, particularly cash. We refunded to you the entire amount of the rental fee the following day when you said you didn't want to stay. And then you stayed, which we understand; Agua Vista is a beautiful place, as you told us yourself on your third day with us. This area of Costa Rica is remote and very much off the beaten path, as is Agua Vista. Usually, this attracts a kind of tourist who is adventurous, open minded, and aware, interested in the richness of flora and fauna which abounds, the alternative and multicultural nature of town, and in leaving a light footprint.

+1
My husband and I found Auga Vista on tripadvisor.ca last year and based on the reviews, booked a week in February 2014. We were not disappointed. In fact, Agua Vista exceeded our expectations and we will definitely be back! The propertyand grounds are beautiful and Casa Morpho was perfectly situated with spectacular mountain and ocean views. I'm not usually an early riser but we didn't want to miss a moment of the day. We were up at sunrise having coffee on the porch listening and watching the jungle wake up. Plenty of wildlife literally on your doorstep. Casa Morpho was charming and exactly what we were looking for in accommodations. The open air outdoor feel of the house and the porch and private plunge pool were awesome! The kitchen is fully equipped (we used the blender often!) and we loved the full size fridge! We were concerned that the house was not air conditioned but it was a non issue - the fans provide ample air flow, There is plenty to do in the area and we rented an ATV with the help of Khalida and Alex. So many lovely beaches to explore in the Montezuma area and the quad was perfect for touring around. Make sure to hike to the river and waterfall on the property. The koi pond is beautiful and a relaxing place to sit and enjoy the fish.
Khalida and Alex were gracious hosts and very helpful. Khalida was a pleasure to deal with when making reservations and my e-mail questions were promptly answered. Alex recommended we try Soda La Naranja in town - which we probably wouldn't have considered otherwise - it turned out to be our best meal in Montezuma! Cocolores was another great dining experience on the beach! Puggos was a disappointment this year and we didn't have time to get to Playa de los Artistas...next time!
We will definitely be back! Thank you for a beautiful vacation!
Cheers guys,
Kevin & Tracy

Agua Vista was an incredible place to stay. The house was well furnished and comfortable and the kitchen was fully equipped. The outdoor shower in Casa Morfo was a delight. The location is at the top of the hill in Montezuma and down a rugged driveway, so be sure to have adequate transportation. We made due with a scooter, which was an adventure in itself and recommend one to get around if you don't want to pay for the more expensive atv or car.
The grounds give access to a wonderful secluded river leading to majestic waterfalls and private watering holes. Outside you will experience plenty of Costa Rican animal friends throughout the day while enjoying your private pool (at least in the case of Casa Morfo, maybe others). The views were of the mountains and ocean all at once.
The owners are so nice. No other way to describe them, they are great. We highly recommend staying here and would go back in a heartbeat.

We loved our week at Agua Vista. The view from your bed will never be forgotten! The rain forest comes to life every morning - what a fantastic way to wake up.
Just be aware that it's a very real 20-30 minute walk to get from the property to the road, then another 20-30 minutes into town. My suggestion if you are not coming by car is to rent a moped for your entire stay. Just add $30 a day into your budget. You can rent in Montezuma. We love exercise but day in and day out this was too much. Would love for Agua Vista to have these available! Alex and Khalida are wonderful hosts and are helpful in every way.

My Husband and I stayed at Agua Vista for two nights as part of a four week trip around Costa Rica. Firstly, this place is not in Montezuma; however, we sought it out after failing to find anywhere half-decent in Montezuma and after reading the great reviews on Tripadvisor. Vista Mar is a long way up the hill behind Montezuma and then a long way down a private, bumpy drive. The end destination is a very secluded property containing four rental houses with fantastic views of the coast below. We rented Casi Cariblanco, a large house with a full kitchen, use of a washing machine and a beautiful large deck idea for your evening drinks, morning coffee or just relaxing. The house is set among beautiful gardens which are teeming with wildlife, particularly in the early hours, when you will probably be woken by the Howler Monkeys! The owners were friendly and you are welcome to use the beautiful infinity pool by the main house. The property also has a private path down to the Montezuma Waterfalls. It was the most expensive place we stayed while in Costa Rica but getting a whole house with catering facilities meant that it was worth every penny. I would highly recommend a stay at Agua Vista and give it 4.5/5 if possible.

We visited Montezuma in Feb. 2016 and choose to stay at Casa Cariblanco at the Agua Vista residence. The view from the house is spectacular and there's a hammock on the porch to lounge in and take in your surroundings.
It's was probably less then a 10 minute drive down to the central part of Montezuma. You'll find good restaurants and a grocery store there. You can also hike to the waterfalls from the house.
The communal pool on the property was great if you just wanted to take a dip and relax. The rooms have AC which made sleeping much more comfortable. The wi-fi worked very well.
We would highly recommend a stay here, plus you'll probably run into some white face monkeys visiting the house.

We stayed in Casa Trogon for 5 nights. Our little house was really lovely, clean and had everything you could want in it, even a washing machine which was really helpful as this was the last place we stayed in Costa Rica and we had hardly any clothes left. The little pool is really nice, we used it quite a lot even though it does a bit dirty from all the rain but that can't be helped. The owner is lovely, we met her on the night we arrived and again on the day we left, otherwise we only saw her once jogging on the road. Now the access is not that bad! After driving for 3 weeks in Costa Rica you do get used to the bad roads and this one was no different but it's not worse. Maybe if it had been our first place to stay I might have said different but by the time we got to Agua Vista I was used to the roads. Montezuma is a 5 minutes drive away, so again renting a car is a must. I guess the only problem with the house was that some of the screens were coming off a bit and the one in my room was not closing at all, so we did not feel comfortable leaving any doors or windows open, so we did get really hot indoors, but it was not too much of a problem as a gain by then we were used to bugs. My biggest tip would be that if you are going to use the safe in the house as recommended by the owner then do not forget to empty it before you leave!!!! Yes I left all my documents in the safe including passports and happily drove to San Jose Airport without a care in the world! Needless to say that we didn't get on our flight! The owner was kind enough to arrange a courier to send my passports to the airport so we had an extra day in Costa Rica :)

Hi Jen,
There isn't one in the house, but we can provide you with one, no problem! I find it way too hot to blow dry my hair :)
See you next week,

Hola Massiel,
