The Campanario Biological Station is a remote environmental education center for students, families, and those adventurous individuals who would like to disconnect from "civilization". We offer the simple comforts of life - plenty of good food, clean facilities, and comfortable sleeping arrangements. Jungle living generally requires a change of habits. The sun rises early, and most everyone is up with the sun, be this for bird watching, for taking a swim at dawn, or for just having coffee on the front porch to watch the splendid colors over the ocean. Campanario is off-the-grid in most every way: no roads, no national system of electricity or water service, no mail delivery or trash pick-up, no internet service, no washing machines, TVs or air conditioners, etc. Etc., Living at Campanario is generally a life style change for most. We generally adapt to the environment rather than adapting the environment to suit us. We are doing everything possible to keep our ecological footprint small.

We spent four nights at Campanario so we got to experience a number of the activities and amenities they offer including multiple guided day and night hikes, snorkeling at Isla del Cano, a charming beach, comfy hammocks, and unreasonably delicious food. All the staff is

A study abroad trip to Costa Rica with my University brought me to Campanario, and I miss it everyday since we left! This area is an untouched part of the world that is unlike any place I have ever been before. When coming to Campanario, expect to disconnect and leave your

This is not a hotel, it's much better! It's not always easy and comfortable but if you love to see and learn about nature, go. Our dedicated, very knowledgeable guide led us on short hikes around the property and longer hikes in nearby Corcovado National Park. My wife kept a

We spent 5 nights at Campanario and loved every minute. The station is located on a beautiful bay with good swimming and backs onto primary rainforest that is rich in bird and other animal life. We were impressed with every part of our trip, beginning with our contact with

This was my second time at Campanario (my wife’s first) and it was really good to go back. It’s a great way to see a beautiful, unspoilt part of the world and the fact it’s off grid and remote just adds to the experience. As well as a fantastic location, it’s a really friendly

A/ Normally, we work with packages, particularly for students and families. Depending on the package or program, activities can include: hikes within the Campanario reserve, a hike through forest to Corcovado National Park and return, a boat trip to the park station Sirena in the center of the park, a trip to Caño Island for snorkeling, a hike to the local school for perhaps a service project, kayaking in the mangroves, dolphin and whale watching, bird watching, night hikes, tide pooling, etc. etc. Activities are described on our web site.

A/ Campanario is principally a facility for tropical rainforest studies and research. Most of our participants are students, but many families and individuals come for the adventure and for learning. We’ve even had families come for reunions, and couples come for their honeymoons with us.

"All cabins look good, but higher cabins have better ocean views."
"Don't expect a five star hotel in the jungle, but this was the next best thing! Ultimate jungle experience. If you bring the right clothes you'll be comfortable. "
"Any of the cabins are wonderful - we stayed in the one highest on the hill, has the best view out the front, but the others are excellent too."
"Every room was amazing!"
"Cabin 5 on top of the hill has the best ocean view, though all are great."
