I used to visit this hotel about 20 years ago and used to be a great hotel to stay at...I just went back after so many years and found a very poorly mantained property....the shower did not work well, bugs all over not too clean and overall not well kept...on the plus side very friendly and helpful staff and the... We have visited several hotels in Puntarenas and the Hotel Tioga is a good choice for budget travelers specially when travel with the family. The hotel facilities are old but well maintained (no complains), the pool is good and kids love to stay there after crossing the street from the beach. The rooms are OK with TV, they offer free... Hotel Tioga is located at the boulevard at the main front beach of Puntarenas, very close to night life bars, and lots of restaurants. A very nice point for the Puntarenas' Carnavals, even to see it from the balconies. Has rooms for more than 4 people, so it could become a cheaper option for big groups. The place do look... More

Excellent clean family oriented hotel with free internet service, nice swimming pool and free secure parking. Located in front of the beach of Puntarenas at the heart of the city. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The hotel has a very clean restaurant with delicious international and Costarican food. The sunsets in Puntarenas are spectacular. Just walk to the... More

Got stuck in this grimy port town by accident and Fodors recommended this grande old dame of a hotel. Grand it is not. It's very 50s and pink. The guy at the desk was a hoot - he was like Manuel in Fawlty Towers, answering a million phones and talking to numerous guests all at the same time. He wanted... More

If you have the chance to stay in Puntarenas, stay away from this place. Creepy rooms, walls have holes and looks like you are in 1930. AC is really old sounds like a turbine No hot water. You can hear your neighbor showering. The pool waterpump is always making noises as well as the ice machine

Not fancy, but clean and reasonably priced. The decore is pretty old - probably built in the late 1950s or early 1960s. (The flowered bedspreads match the drapes, and I think I had the same set in 1967.) This is not a luxury hotel, but the staff is friendly, and the rooms are clean. There is good water pressure for... We stayed only one night. The room was in excellent condition, with a perfect view to the sea. The hotel is located on the seafront, and although the beach is very bad kept with trash on the sand, it is a plus this location. breakfast is included on an average price and is basic. Personal is very friendly

When we have stay at this hotel, around 2010, Puntarenas wasn’t a well visited sea side town by foreigners. We arrived at the hotel Toga during the “La virgin de la mar” festival. I think we where the only foreigners among this packed crowd of Costa Ricans vacationers and locals. The Hotel Toga was the only one where a room... More

Stayed 1 night in Puntarenas when forced to stay due to traffic accident halting our road trip down to the pacific coast. Managed to negiotiate a 20% discount on the original price offered by reception- was still pretty expensive at 90 dollars for the night including breakfast (which was average at best). Room was large but basic, with good views... More
