As a part of a longer trip in Central America I spend a week in the Costa Rican La Point camp. It was one of the best weeks of the entire trip, where I got to meet lots of similar minded people. The camp is located in the town of Santa Teresa which is great for grabbing a bite to eat or a drink. The town has the great laid back vibes, so does the camp. The beach is absolutely stunning and located only a few minutes from the camp. I definitely recommend a stay with la point as it is a great way to experience Costa Rica and get out and catch some waves! 🏄♀️

Great people, great surf and really fun vibes
Really fun time, staff was super accommodating and really good people. Coaches were knowledgeable and great to work with.
Multiple breaks to surf at, activities other than surfing are really easy to book. Easy walk into town for great food spots

I went to the Lapoint surfcamp in Costa Rica as the start of my first solo travel ever. The camp and its location were beautiful. We were on walking distance of different beaches and of the town Santa Teresa. I really loved the beach in Malpais and the tide pools, they were so amazing. I felt comfortable and safe all the time and had an incredible experience here.
The camp had this very big and practical dorms for 6 persons. Everything was clean, there was airconditioning and there was a little nightstand next to every bed. The camp had a swimming pool, a big social area to meet the other guests and the most delicious fresh cooked meals. I met a lot of amazing people this week. The social hosts were very friendly and helpful, but when I asked them where I could get a SIMcard or get some cash, they couldn't give me any recommendations and I missed that a little bit, especially because those where my very first days there. I think it would be interesting if there were also local people hosting the camp, to get some insider tips and other recommendations from the country.
I loved the daily surfclasses and other activities. I even wished that we could have more surf classes. There was 1 surf coach for around 2-3 people and we had the same one every day. I think that was a very good thing, cause he could see your progress during the different classes and give you a lot of personal feedback. I already had some experience (3 classes) with surfing before I joined the camp and therefor I was in level 1. The first two classes were very technical and I would have been nice to have a little more practice in the water in those classes, cause I already knew most of this and just wanted to practice. But they pay a lot of attention to being safe in the water and to read the conditions of the ocean. I really refined my surf technique and feel much more confident in the water.
In my opinion, a level in between level 1 and 2, would have made the quality of the classes even better, because if you already surfed before you don't have to hear all the theoretical stuff again and start in the white water right away and so improve your surfing even more.
I would really recommend this surfcamp if you love to surf or want to learn it and also if you love to meet a lot of different people from all around the world. The surfclasses were great and I would recommend exploring the beautiful nature around the camp.

I learned to surf in Santa Teresa four years ago at Perfect Sunset school and I have come back each year and now I surf with my sister or with a private instructor. This year I have been very upset with how the Lapoint instructors are acting in the water. They bring out a huge group of people and try to force people out of the waves that they are riding. They don't even teach the people how to surf, they just push them into all the waves. The main instructor is very mean to everybody out there.
If you are thinking of doing a surf camp and especially if you are a woman you should go somewhere else. When I looked at this camp I saw that is was very expensive and for that cost I could stay at a really nice hotel and get a private lesson every day. These guys that are teachers there just teach people how to be very rude and nothing like the etiquette that I learned from the local instructors. I wish I could do more than just complain on the internet but I wanted people to know that this surf camp is hated by everybody here and if you plan on staying around after people won't like you because of how the instructors act.

I’ve been to several surf camps; this was a the bottom of my list. There was a lot of disorganization and quite frankly some of the staff weren’t the kindest. I would prefer to see more professionalism and maturity.
fyi- if you’re a blonde don’t swim in the pool, your hair will turn green. And if you surf the early morning session you will not be provided breakfast or coffee before. This is insane and downright unhealthy. No safe in the room. Wifi was constantly in and out.
Overall, decent place but I couldn’t see myself returning to LaPoint in Santa Teresa. I would choose elsewhere to stay. Surf instructors were great though.

Honestly one of the best weeks ever! Stayed for about 8 days for a surf trip and it was amazing. From the one on one surf coaching to the camp staff and food the whole experience was incredible. From early morning surf sessions to sunsets on the beach all together this trip made my year for sure! Again I cannot emphasize enough the quality of my experience and the coached surf sessions were world class! Highly would recommend to any surfer looking to meet great people, surf fun waves, and create a memorable experience that has you wanting to come back ASAP!!

Good location for surfing, in the middle of a surf town in Costa Rica. The staff are very helpful and the food is well made. The accommodations are clean and well kept up. It is large enough that if you are solo, there’s usually plenty of other people to meet, but it can also accommodate large groups.

I spent 2 weeks at the Lapoint surf camp in Santa Teresa and it was amazing. Accommodation is really nice, the food was good and the surf instructors where incredible. They made you feel safe in the water and had a great way of explaining surfing. My development was better than I could’ve ever imagined because of these instructors. The camp is also a great way to get to know people and make great connections. I absolutely loved it and definitely think it was worth the money.

Good people, good surf coaches, good location and very good vibes! Around the camp you have everything you need, so you don't need much else for your stay there. The meals cooked by local chefs are 10 and how comfortable I was during those two weeks was impressive. I would definitely repeat again ;)
The only thing I would change would be the pool volleyball net because after so many games, it is on its last legs, poor thing. hahaha

I had a great time in Santa Teresa at Lapoint Surfcamp! My only regret is not staying longer.. The camp is well organized, the staff are amazing, and the surf lessons are great. I had never tried surfing before, and by the end of two weeks, I felt safe enough to surf on my own, riding the green waves. The camp was beautiful, with a pool to chill out by I the afternoons. I traveled alone, but I met a lot of amazing people who I´m still friends with today :) I will definitely go back!!

Hey Yasmin :)
Sorry for our late reply.
Our guests are mostly 18-40 years old and the age varies from week to week. I would say the average age is 25-27 years.
I hope we get to see you ☀️

Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom3 contributions2 helpful votesI'm going by my self in 4 weeks and have a few 'silly' questions if anyone could answer?
How much cash is recommended to take? and is it the local currency? what's the dress code after surfing? is it very casual or does anyone dress up? when you go to the beach for the surf camp can you take a camera or phone to take pictures?
also did anyone stay in the hostel they provide the night before pick up? sorry for the lame questions, I'm going alone and I am a bit of a planner ha thank you very much.
