Very nice old house but lacks some maintenance, for example: the door handle of the room would come out (i.e. you opened the door inside and you were left with the key in hand); the bathroom was covered; The ceramic of the shower keys was a little cracked so I opened the keys carefully to avoid breaking; the TV turned on but was not connected to any channel so you could not see anything. Unfortunately it does not have good insulation so you could hear the noises from the next room (who unfortunately got up at 6am). The common areas are very nice, they are clean, the staff very friendly but I think they could take into account maintenance to avoid this I mention. We do not file complaints as we only stayed 1 night. They have laundry service with the cost per garment. This was a very good service as we arrived late to the hotel and had my clothes ready first thing the next day which stands out a lot. Breakfast is buffet, with tea, coffee, juice, fruit, eggs, toast and typical country breakfast. Located a couple of blocks from the national theater and downtown itself. It has a parking agreement 1 block away at a cost of 14 USD per day.

A lovely "little" gem next to some nice bars, restaurants and very close to shopping in San Jose. Many rooms on two floors that stretch back through quaint plant filled hallways. Business center for small conferences/workshops. Very friendly staff and cute breakfast area. Breakfast is basic and good: eggs, toast, yogurt, beans/rice, fresh fruit. Reception even called to make sure I didn't miss breakfast when the buffet was closing! Very attentive. For the price, some slippers and a robe would have been welcome as well as a mini fridge. ($50/night)

Dear Customer, thank you very much for taking your time to review our hotel. Our location is well appreciated by our customers because the most attractive places in San José, are nearby the hotel. The computer we have in the workshop area is used by guests to print boarding passes and do specific works. Our breakfast is traditional with the intention to connect visitors with the Costa Rican experience. Indeed, some rooms have minibar according to each category. I am very happy to know you have enjoyed your stay in our hotel and hope you can come and visit us again in a near future. Regards.

We stayed here twice in February, once at the start of our trip and once at the end.

The staff are friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome.

The first time we were there we had a relatively small twin room. The lovely thing about it was that it had a small internal terrace. The shower was good too - good water pressure.

The second time we stayed we had a much larger twin room (Two double beds) and this one was facing the front of the building so we had a fantastic view of the volcano out the window.

The hotel itself has lots of public seating areas including outside tables.

Breakfast was good. The typical beans and rice, eggs, cheese and plantain. As well as toast and jam, and fresh fruit to start.

The only thing to consider is if you’re a really light sleeper, there is a train/tram that goes past near the hotel. It didn’t bother me at all.

Definitely recommend this hotel

Made a reservation over a month ahead and specifically asked for an accessible room on the first floor (second as they call it there), since I was carrying quite some heavy luggage, and also a double bed. I was told yes, with pleasure, as a reply to my message. To then be given exactly what I didn’t want: a room with single beds on the 4th floor. Even after insisting at the reception. I felt lied to. If I knew, I would have chosen another hotel.

You’re going to want to read this before booking this place. I stayed here with another person my last night in Costa Rica and I personally think it’s terrible for even one night. The area is so sketchy You can’t park in front of the hotel so you have to go around the corner and down the block for a parking lot that is parked bumper to bumper. Yes, it’s a Victorian style hotel but they could absolutely use some remodeling. The pictures make this place look stunning but you are going to be fooled. There are no AC units in the rooms. We had a fan that barely worked. The room felt so humid. The beds are rock hard and the linens are gross! They have stains and look yellow, they clearly need to be replaced. There are no microwaves in the room or a mini fridge. The restaurant is only open for breakfast. The bar is no longer open due to COVID. We felt unsafe in this neighborhood so we didn’t even want to walk anywhere for food or drinks and were hoping we could get all of that during our stay. The bathroom is the only thing decent. The only good thing about this place was the kind staff. Put your money somewhere else. It’s not worth it in my opinion.

The hotel was suitable for a quick overnight stay before leaving for our final destination. The mattresses and pillows weren't very comfy and the rooms are not air conditioned. Additionally, the front desk is not 24/7 as advertised online from our experience as we arrived on a later flight -- they close at 10pm.

We had emailed the hotel 12 days prior to departing Canada to let them know we would be arriving late. We received no response. The day we arrived, we got to the hotel around 10:45pm to find the front door locked, a call button and a paper saying to give a previously provided password or call the hotel through whatsapp. We did not receive a password, nor did we have any means of contacting the hotel as we did not have wifi or data/SIM card for central America at this time.

Luckily, a staff member who was off at 10pm had happened to stay later for other reasons, not because we were a late arrival, and was able to get us inside and checked in.

Once we checked in and got our wifi connected, we checked our email and had received all of the necessary information...the day we arrived...at 9:54pm...I wish this information had been provided a few days earlier so we could've avoided the stress of thinking we were locked out of our hotel ina new city late at night after a full day of travel.

Fleur de Lys it’s a beautiful hotel. I would say a “Boutique” Hotel. Breakfast included and worth it. All people in the hotel are very nice. Also Hotel Fleur de Lys is located in a great spot. Has two theaters in the same block and the restaurant “Nuestra Tierra” just around the corner. The National Museum of Costa Rica is just crossing the street and from there you can enjoy a city walk and in ten minutes you will be at the local market.

So, if you are planning a trip to Costa Rica, Fleur de Lys hotel is must stay….and the coffee…GREAT!

Ended up here after abandoning our pre-paid booking at The Costa Rica Guesthouse due to a pretty wretched smelling room there. We were lucky, Fleur de Lys is a gem. Nice bright and clean room with a stellar bathroom and shower. The front desk could not have been more helpful, (she had just returned from ordering food for one of their longer term elderly guests at an Italian restaurant nearby (Sapore Trattoria), which turned out to have food as good as she’d claimed). They also have a discount for a secure overnight parking lot close by, which, although maybe not necessary, gave us extra peace of mind to not have to worry about our rental. Easily walkable to any of the things you may need to see downtown.

This place is beautiful and a real gem amongst the many places here in San jose. The hotel is over 100 years old and it's original architecture has been maintained, same for the inside of the place. There are a lot of artwork and many beautiful details to be discovered. The inside architecture and decoration are amazing. The staff members are very friendly and extremely helpful. They do the utmost to make you feel comfortable. The receptionist Keilyn help me out to find places on the map and to get there. To me it was helpful that the staff members speak English since I do not speak Spanish. Staying at fleur de lis was a pleasant experience and I recommend the place to any Traveler who is interested in staying in a beautiful place with nice people. If you want a room with daylight, you should choose one of the upstairs rooms. They are quieter as the downstairs rooms, which have Windows to the corridor. Breakfast is included which is a bonus

Bianca and her Team truly went above and beyond expectations with making my stay as perfect as it was. From the warm welcome, to helping me with travel/tour plans, she ensured every step of the process was handled with care. Even took the initiative to help rectify travel hiccups I encountered without me knowing! I was totally blown away by all the gestures beginning to end.

The hotel itself is a dream. Cozy and quiet, I had great sleep here. The environment itself was very pretty, well taken care of, picture worthy moments too.

I came for the charming hotel, would come back for the amazing staff! I will/would recommend this place to anyone coming to San Jose!!
