The staff are friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome.
The first time we were there we had a relatively small twin room. The lovely thing about it was that it had a small internal terrace. The shower was good too - good water pressure.
The second time we stayed we had a much larger twin room (Two double beds) and this one was facing the front of the building so we had a fantastic view of the volcano out the window.
The hotel itself has lots of public seating areas including outside tables.
Breakfast was good. The typical beans and rice, eggs, cheese and plantain. As well as toast and jam, and fresh fruit to start.
The only thing to consider is if you’re a really light sleeper, there is a train/tram that goes past near the hotel. It didn’t bother me at all.
Definitely recommend this hotel
We had emailed the hotel 12 days prior to departing Canada to let them know we would be arriving late. We received no response. The day we arrived, we got to the hotel around 10:45pm to find the front door locked, a call button and a paper saying to give a previously provided password or call the hotel through whatsapp. We did not receive a password, nor did we have any means of contacting the hotel as we did not have wifi or data/SIM card for central America at this time.
Luckily, a staff member who was off at 10pm had happened to stay later for other reasons, not because we were a late arrival, and was able to get us inside and checked in.
Once we checked in and got our wifi connected, we checked our email and had received all of the necessary information...the day we arrived...at 9:54pm...I wish this information had been provided a few days earlier so we could've avoided the stress of thinking we were locked out of our hotel ina new city late at night after a full day of travel.
So, if you are planning a trip to Costa Rica, Fleur de Lys hotel is must stay….and the coffee…GREAT!
The hotel itself is a dream. Cozy and quiet, I had great sleep here. The environment itself was very pretty, well taken care of, picture worthy moments too.
I came for the charming hotel, would come back for the amazing staff! I will/would recommend this place to anyone coming to San Jose!!

"Compared to other places in this price range, this place has a lot to offer. It is outstandingly beautiful and the service is great. Please note, if you want a room with daylight you need to choose one of the upstairs rooms since the downstairs rooms have Windows to the corridor and no outside light. If you don't mind, the downstairs rooms are cheaper. Breakfast is included for all rooms and stuff"Read full review
