LOVED the stay here, super friendly staff, we were a group of 50 students for a business trip, absolutely loved every bit of it. Shoutout to DANIEl, bar tender, he was the BEST, i might go back just to see him..
For my weeklong stay in Costa Rica, I selected the Holiday Inn - Aurola for many reasons. First, it is well known for being clean, comfortable and centrally located, but it’s also a prominent landmark and the highest building in town. Service was great, while the bars and restaurants were top notch. But the hotel being the highest building was not the high point for me. The highlight for me was absolutely the staff. Beginning with the hotel manager, Carlos Garcia, who greets people to demonstrate they are not merely guests or someone ‘unknown’ with a room number. According to Carlos, each guest is special with unique needs to ensure their stay is memorable. It’s the difference between a customer and a client – the difference is his staff’s attention to personal detail and treating hotel guest as close to family as practical. They learn your first name and you’ve become family in this sparkling establishment. Holiday Inn’s “Clean Promise” is more than a slogan or trademark at their San Jose (Aurola) property – it is their total commitment to ensure their hotel retains the highest cleanliness standards. You can see it upon entering this high-rise building where it is mandatory to wash your hands at a convenient sanitation station. Workers with back-pack steamers and disinfectants frequently clean common-use and high-traffic areas. Even the housekeeping staff are armed with sanitizing and purifying tools to protect guests from any potential germs or bacteria. I felt extremely comfortable and shielded. The hotel was as close to a ‘safe house,’ in a budding city as one could expect. There were many noteworthy superstars - particularly Erick Gonzalez, the front desk supervisor. He certainly greets and treats guests like family too. He is professionalism is beyond belief. From providing me pinpoint directions to the least expensive nearby authorized COVID testing site for my return trip to the US, to printing out my speedy results in English and Spanish, Erick went out of his way to ensure my stay was stress and worry free. Erick’s boss is Rafael Rojas, is the hotel’s Rooms Division Manager. Rafael is about as close as you can get to an indispensable person I’ve ever met. If you need anything special in your room, chat with Rafael. Want a larger room with a view, talk to Rafael. Anything to do with rooms in this hotel, Rafael knows just how to make your dreams become a reality. Yet my review would be incomplete if I didn’t mention other memorable staffers like Daniel, the lead bartender at the La Palma Bar who insists everyone who enters his mezzanine pub automatically becomes his boss. Daniel can remember exactly what you drink and how you like it – he’s incredible and very personable at the same time. He donates ALL his tips to a local orphanage. The manager and staff will be the reason when I return to Costa Rica, I will definitely stay at the Holiday Inn - Aurola. A great hotel for your perfect stay in this beautiful country.…
This hotel is in a great location. We did a lot of walking around the city and it was easy to find our way back there. The best thing about the hotel was the wonderful breakfast - all that delicious fruit! There was something for everyone. I miss that breakfast! The staff were friendly and helpful and our room was just fine.
Amazing service! The hotel bar was the best. Daniel the bartender took care of us all week and was so kind! It was our favorite place to hangout and drink! They also had pretty good food and drink prices were good compared to other bars nearby!
Before my flight to LA the next day, I stayed in Holiday Inn San Jose - Aurola, accompanied by my daughter and grandchild. It was a hassle-free check-in as the friendly receptionist, Mr. Angelo (not very sure of his name) received us amicably. He asked only a few questions and after giving back our passports, he contacted a chauffeur and arranged for my early morning trip to the international airport. Being an IHG Hotel, the lobby of Holiday Inn - Aurola was very spacious and well-designed. I liked the huge glass jar of chilled cucumber water next to the reception counter. It was so relaxing to be seated at the fabulously arranged lobby. We were escorted to our comfortable family room which was complete with all the amenities. The toilet/bathroom/bathtub were spotlessly clean. Fresh towelletes and towels were hung from the bar, and the fabric shower curtain smelled good. I didn't have the chance to join my daughter and grandkid for breakfast, as I had to be very early for my onward journey. The most wonderful impression I remember was the very kind and generous assistance of one staff in the parking area. He seemed to be a senior employee but he was strong, agile and light on his feet. He assisted us in the parking area, and then transported our luggages up to the main lobby. His polite friendliness was indeed commendable! Thank you very much, Holiday Inn San Jose - Aurola. …
First night in 516 was great. Next evening could hear heavy metal music off and on in our room and reported it to staff- went to stairwell and was coming up through there. Thought someone was practicing in one of the rooms. Later at 9 pm music was still blasting in our room- so much that the windows, bed, room was vibrating. Called down to lobby and told them we couldn't stay in the room- found out that a bar behind the hotel had just opened and that they would be finished at midnight. I told them that wasn't any good when I was trying to get to sleep now. They moved us to the 14th floor in a room facing another direction which made it a lot better but could still hear the thumping of the music. First breakfast was in the restaurant and it wasn't too bad. The next day it was served buffet style on another floor and was horrible. Hot food was cold and wasn't much of a selection. Another breakfast in the restaurant but the selection was less than the first time we ate there. Conveniently located to other stores but not sure that I would want to venture out at night. The room we were first in on the 5th floor was tired looking and just seemed wore out. The second room on the 14th floor was much better.…
The hotel is located in a convenient location. It is easy to get to any point of the city. The windows offer a gorgeous view of the city. The appearance of the room fully corresponded to the photo. The rooms are well cleaned and comfortable. Cleaning is regular and high quality. The pleasant atmosphere of the bar, soulful music and friendly, cheerful bartender Daniel with excellent service, who knows what to offer each guest. The restaurant always has delicious and fresh food. The staff is courteous and friendly in communication. Front desk always help to solve any problem. We had a very good time at the hotel and hope to come again. Thank you!
The highest building in the center of San Jose with walking distance to shops restaurants and points of interest. The views from top floors are beautiful. My room was spacious and clean with comfortable bed. Wifi is free and fast. Free breakfast has wide variety of food and I think it was excellent. Room service was also excellent. Staff in general friendly. I would stay in Holiday Inn Aurola again.
The hotel itself was clean. Staff ignored us in the restaurant and also in the bar so we set out to find somewhere within walking distance to eat. A man tried to rob a city bus driver. Men had him spread eagle on the sidewalk, waiting for arrival of police. Within two blocks, a man who had been robbed (his head was bashed in and bleeding) asked us for money for cab fare to go to the hospital. We talked with him and gave him money. He was from Colorado and wanted to give us his dad's phone number so that his dad could repay us. We declined as we were there at that time to help him freely. The next morning, the bellman informed us there had been a drug bust the previous night. We felt the tension on the streets and saw people doing drugs. When our transportation picked us up to take us to our next location in Costa Rica, we told him about our experience. As a former border patrol agent, he was astounded that the bellman had let us leave the hotel without a cautionary message that it wasn't safe to do so. We were thankful we were safe.…
We stayed here on the first and last nights of a 10 night trip to Costa Rica that was arranged by a travel agent. I suspect that’s how a lot of the guests end up here. It’s understandable, because the hotel meets all basic requirements: it’s clean (in our experience), quiet and safe, with comfortable beds, a good steady hum from the A/C, and even, on the higher floors, a nice view of the city. But the TV didn’t work, 2 of a total of 5 lamps were burnt out, the rooms are in desperate need of updating (last refurbished in the nineties, judging by the mustard and maroon upholstery) and the shower offered a depressing trickle of lukewarm water. As evidenced by the 5 large brass stars on the wall near the entrance this must once have been a luxury hotel. But just like in a lot of American cities, the commercial and residential hearts of San Jose have moved away from the old downtown, leaving the former cultural landmarks to decay and the parks and squares to give refuge to the unhomed. So there is absolutely no reason to stay here: nothing to see; nothing to do except wait for your shuttle. There has to be a better choice.…
