Reviews Summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
The Radisson San Jose-Costa Rica receives accolades for its cleanliness and the friendly, professional demeanor of its staff, who are frequently commended for their exceptional service. While the hotel's location is well-regarded for its convenience and safety, opinions on the atmosphere and amenities vary, with some guests enjoying the inviting pool area and others finding the decor and ambiance lacking. Room conditions have been met with criticism due to mustiness and wear, though they remain spacious and tidy. The hotel's value proposition is subject to debate, as some services are considered reasonably priced, whereas others may not be as economical.

I wanted to inform you of our experience with the Radisson in San Jose. My wife had been on a church mission trip and she’d fell on 1/31 and broken her hip with a DVT complication. She had surgery on 2/2 to perform a hip replacement. On 2/3 she dislocated the hip in the hospital and the doctor was unable to reset it in San Carlos. We took a 3 hour hospital ride through the mountains and arrived at the hospital in San Jose around 10:00 pm CT. By 11:00 pm CT the doctor had her back in surgery and, with the additional tools and personnel assistance, they were able to reset the prothesis. She was released on Monday, 2/5, to the San Jose Radisson where we were to wait a week before flying home. She dislocated it again around 7:00 pm CT at the Radisson and we went back to the hospital (note, the hospital provided complimentary ambulance to the hospital). The doctor confirmed it was dislocated and they performed surgery on Tuesday, 2/6, to replace the hip prothesis with a ‘constrained’ design prothesis to prevent future dislocations. We went back to the Radisson on Wednesday, 2/7, to wait for our flights home. I ran into several people at the Radisson that made our stay extraordinary. I will start with the front desk staff, specifically Meryen and Norlan. They were there the night she dislocated her hip and Norlan even assisted the paramedics in getting her safely out of the room and into the ambulance. I retuned around 10:00 pm CT the following evening after surgery, and when I walked into the hotel I was greeted by name by Norlan who asked, 'How is Mabel?'. How he remembered my name and knew me by sight simply amazed me. He and Meryen continued to ask me daily how she was doing and if there was anything they could do for us. I will never forget how well they treated us. After we returned to the Radisson and awaited our flights home I started having breakfast at the buffet in the morning. That's where I ran into Alonso. He greeted me every morning and asked how my wife was doing. He started preparing a tray for me to take something up to her to eat, even gathering some special request items. He kept my coffee cup filled and my mind at ease. He was a pleasure to see in the morning and he started my days off in a positive way. A tremendous man who provided tremendous customer service. I'd like to think that we became friends. Finally, I have to talk about Edgar. He greeted me everyday by name. He helped me to identify places to go when I needed something for my wife. I was a novice Uber user but he singularly ensured I was going where I needed to go. He also helped in other ways, like bringing a sturdy wooden chair from an office to our room for my wife to sit in safely and comfortably. He always asked how my wife was going, and always wished me a good night or good morning. He always asked if he could do anything for us. This was a singularly difficult experience for us. However, the staff at the San Jose Radisson did so much to make every day as good as it could be. I will never forget our stay, nor will I ever forget the people who helped us not only in a time of need and stress, but they helped as good friends would help another good friend. I don't think I can say it any better than that. Louis Scherzer

Hotel's Favourite
Always a good experience staying at the Radisson San Jose Costa Rica. The staff are always friendly and helpful. The hotel is always clean and the atmosphere is always calm. The breakfast buffet is always yummy and we can even order a la carte. The rooms are spacious and very clean. It is always nice to feel like we're in our second home when we stay here because the people make us feel like we are home.

The hotel is a large sprawling property that probably dates to the 70s, rather heavy on the concrete in the style of that period. The hotel is a bit dated, but functional and clean other than a funky smell from a room freshener or floor cleaner. The restaurant has a brilliant breakfast, we recommend eating outdoors where you will see plenty of birds and squirrels come up for tidbits. However dinner at the bar was average. Decent hotel as a first stop in Costa Rica, but recommend leaving San Jose within a day as the country has so much more to offer than the city.

Great place to stay if in San Jose, Costa Rica. Nice rooms, good service , central and easy to get about from. Good buffet breakfast with plenty of choice, a decent sized pool and hot tub within a garden area. Had cocktails in bar and a really good risotto in the restaurant. Its about 15- 20 mins to the airport in a cab from this hotel.

An older partially refurbished hotel, some parts are worn out. Large rooms, high ceilings, AC, no fridge in the room, ice distributors on the floor, sufficient amenities in the bathroom, metallic wardrobe, coffee machine, no news channel on the tv. Large gym, plus a small gym with small sauna on 4th floor. Outdoor pool and jacuzzi. Restaurant is outstanding (though wines are rather expensive). Breakfast is ok: hot dishes (gallo pinto plus eggs and two different sides each day) and cold cuts. Staff are friendly. There is a foodtruck on the parking premises with a local menu. There is a Walmart a twenty minutes walk away. The neighbourhood is not very reassurnig: some offices and that's it. Nothing nearby. Don't go walk around at night. You can walk to downtown (a good half hour walk) or take a cab. Don't take a room from numbers x001 to x0010, because they are near a highway that can be very noisy at night.

Room really tiny and noisy as on main road - you really want a good night sleep as it is really a night stop for the airport - there is a few shops within walking distance g distance but a bit far to visit San Jose Food was awful had steak in the restaurant it was inedible, complained and still unable to cut it so would not recommend eating there when there are restaurants within a few minutes walk

This hotel was our beginning accommodation to our tour. We arrived a day early and were checked in to our room even though it was just after noon. Bar restaurant had excellent food. Rooms are large, quiet and have full bath with a tub, AC, TV and good wifi. No in room safe or mini fridge. Breakfast was included daily from 6:30-10 am and included traditional hot Costa Rica food, pastries, fruit etc. 1 km easy walk to the center of San Jose. Conferences and travellers filled the hotel. Outdoor pools.

The Radisson San Jose was great. The staff was friendly and very helpful, and the room was clean and spacious. I was able to buy a SIM card for my phone right in the lobby (although this guy could have been a little more free with information). The breakfast buffet had many options and was very tasty. The hotel is not directly in the city center, but the 15-minute daytime walk is okay. You will need your phone's GPS as San Jose is known for not having street signs to tell you where you are. It's also easy and inexpensive to use a ride-sharing service to get around (and you will be cautioned against walking alone at night). As long as you don't need to have the city center right outside the door, I highly recommend this hotel.

Our second time staying at the Radisson SJ, having started our CR tour here 16 nights earlier. We were warmly welcomed back by the lovely Angie at reception & had a beautiful, clean, well appointed, spacious room overlooking the pools. We had a massive, super comfortable bed with pristine white linen & puffy pillows. The bathroom had a powerful shower & bath. The complimentary teeny toiletries were perfect & the whole experience was a welcome change from slightly ‘roughing it’ less luxurious hotels and lodges during our tour of CR. No fridge in the room (this is common in CR) but there is an ice bucket, coffeemaker, safe & hairdryer. The tap water is safe to drink here (it is not everywhere in CR) but there is complementary bottled water which is a nice touch (not very common in CR). We ate a tasty burger & pizza at the bar & enjoyed a beautifully decorated mojito cocktail and super cold lager. Breakfast had plenty of food choice, excellent coffee & was taken in the light and airy dining room. All the staff we interacted with were smart, knowledgeable and friendly. If you are planning to tour CR, I’d recommend this hotel as a start and end point. It is a haven! Close enough to the SJ airport and downtown SJ (handy if you need to pick up supermarket supplies before you explore the country). We will definitely stay with Radisson again after this first class experience.
