Comfortable bed, clean room, and decent bathroom facilities. Front desk staff courteous and efficient but gave us incorrect information about a schedule change regarding our driver the next day (which was not a problem because the driver had texted us about the change with the correct information). Lousy views from the room. Outside traffic a little noisy. (Please see my restaurant review.)
We had an amazing stay at this quaint, boutique hotel on our trip to Costa Rica. All of the food we ate at the restaurant was delicious with top notch service. Our room was very comfortable and the people at the front desk were always very helpful. We will definitely stay here the next time we go to Costa Rica.
Lovely hotel with a great restaurant. We stayed 2 nights in a room with a courtyard garden. The room is small but very comfortable. Lots of top notch amenities with a very tastefully decorated bathroom. The shower floor is marble so caution advised. The garden is very peaceful in the evening when there is less traffic noise from the road. Our fountain did not work but we could hear the one next door. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We took taxis where we needed to go though the front desk said it was safe to walk the 25 minutes to downtown. Breakfast is served in the courtyard and there are lots of great choices. The dinner we had was excellent. We would stay here again.
Grano De Oro Hotel - we found this hotel comfortable and acceptable. The first night we spent there on our arrival in Costa Rica we had a nice bedroom with a large king size bed. The room was quite noisy as it is near a main highway and the traffic noise started at 4 am. There is a very good restaurant and I think has a reputation locally for its food. The inclusive breakfast is a bit mean. This was the only hotel where food allergies are not accommodated. The hotel is situated within walking distance of the town centre and there are other restaurants nearby which we only found on our last morning walking around the area.. For our last 2 nights we were told we had been upgraded but I question that as we had a ‘double size’ bed which is very small. This room was quieter than the first but I think it is important to find out when booking for your clients what size the bed is.…
Hotel Grano de Oro was a delight from check in to check out. The hotel had clearly decked the halls for Christmas, which was a very nice touch. Our room was clean and well appointed and the private patio and roof terrace were lovely spots to chill out away from the hustle and bustle of San José. The free items in the minibar were a very nice touch. The staff were friendly and attentive and the food at the restaurant was excellent. I would recommend this hotel to any visitors to San José.
Hotel Grano de Oro is a wonderful boutique hotel in San Jose, Costa Rica that is charming, relaxing, and providing superb service. When we had to leave too early in the morning to have breakfast, they packed a wonderful box lunch for us. A nice and unexpected touch that demonstrates their desire to make our stay the best it can be. There is also no need to go anywhere else for dinner. The restaurant was wonderful in quality of food and service. The best we dined at during our entire vacation. There may be other fine hotels in San Jose, but none better than Hotel Grano de Oro. We recommend them highly. Mike B, Upper Saddle River, NJ
My wife and I stayed here at the start of our Costa Rica holiday. The colonial style hotel and rooms are beautiful, the decor of restaurant and open courtyard used for breakfast are something else. The location is great and just a 10 minute walk into town where we had arranged a bike tour of city which we loved. The food was amazing and the staff were so warm and friendly and even arranged a take out breakfast when we left as breakfast had not opened. Thanks all, would recommend staying here.
A lovely hotel with a Spanish colonial theme to its architecture despite being only 20 years old. Lovely use of Costa timber for panelling and floors and historic photos on the walls give a real feel of the old San Jose. Food was international and first class. Good wine list with Spanish wines best value. Good location. 10 mins walk to the gold museum and Theatre National.
The food is superb, we tried lamb chops and a mushrooms tower and they were excellent. The service is also great, kind, detail oriented making the dinning experience totally worth it (it’s a bit pricey for Costarrican standards) The desserts are very heavy though
This is the most beautiful old colonial building. It made me think back to the days of Rudyard Kipling and Somerset Maugham but the hotel has been thoroughly brought up to date while retaining its old charm. We stayed in the Vista De Ora Suite which is the best room they have and is beautifully decorated. Of the 6 hotels we stayed at in Costa Rica, this was by far the most impressive. Their restaurant is particularly good and do leave room for one of their famous desserts. The service was outstanding. You can't fail to be impressed by this hotel and I shall certainly stay there again on my next visit to San Jose.
