In the middle of San Jose-Rooms are spacious(larger and cleaner than Hotel Costa Rica)English speaking employees. Rooms on the street side all have a balcony as does the dining room. Rooms on other side are very quiet with great views of the mountains. Noise on street side is mild and gone by midnight. Noise at the Hotel Costa Rica is 24/7 due to the 24/7 casino noise that shoots up to all the rooms there. Great home style meals in the dining room(2 balconies available to eat at). No "heating" or air conditioning necessary at any time of the year due to the mild constant climate. Safest hotel in San Jose as there is only one way in or out and door is locked at midnight. I have never seen any bug at the hotel. Rooms are thoroughly cleaned everyday by a friendly staff.

Location! Location! Location! I just needed a one day transit in San Jose before I catch my bus to Arenal/La Fortuna. I am glad I picked Hotel Maragato! For the price I paid, it was simply great. The location was so convenient. Centrally located. Free Wifi! Free Breakfast! But there were a few reviews on the noise, which I completely agree upon. The room facing central avenue (have mercy on my ears) it was extremely loud. Request a room on the opposite side, if possible. Gentlemen who checked us in was not helpful at all, as our AC did not work and he did not assist us to fix it, nor did he offer us another room, neither did he inform us that the breakfast was included in the rate I paid. Apart from that, all other staff who succeeded him were extremely helpful and attempted to make my stay great. So no complains.

Just stayed here for the third time. This place is a hidden gem right in the heart of downtown, a minute's walk from the Teatro Nacional and right in front of the Gran Hotel. The price is great for the area. The hotel is not at all fancy, but everything is clean and neat. Breakfast is not the greatest, however, but it's free with the room. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

Now, I've stayed in some dives all around the world, but this one sure tops my list as the skeeviest hotel I've ever stayed at. When I walked in the front door, I just knew we should have turned around and walked right out. Thinking our room was pre-paid (like the website said) we stayed. First of all, the rooms have absolutely no air conditioning, so if you do decide to stay here, ask for the lowest possible floor. The noise level will be greater down there, but at least you'll be comfortable if you dare to slip in between the sheets of the beds. The ceiling tiles were stained and we even were graced by the presence of a roach! Yippie! At night, the active foot-street is bustinling until the wee-hours of the morning. If that's what you're into, then this is the hotel for you! Otherwise, trek across the foot-street to the Gran Costa Rican and stay there!

I stayed three nights at the hotel, after two nights at the Gran Hotel Costa Rica, which only has a much nicer lobby. Changed Hotels due to the preponderance of large, boorishly behaved North American 'tour' groups. Not at all civilized! Happily, the rooms at the Maragato were much cleaner and better kept than the Gran Hotel. The bed was newer with nice, clean white sheets, and the bathroom was spic and span. Yes, there was plenty of hot water, too! The front desk staff were obliging and professional. Didn't use the restaurant, but it looked just fine. The location of the hotel is great (I got a room with a balcony overlooking the pedestrian Avenida Central), and it was nice to sit outside and watch the world go by. Will stay there again when in San Jose.

This is our second visit to this hotel. I love it here! We have found that this place has friendly and helpful staff, and it is in a great location to see the museums in San José. It also a great value for your dollar. If you have a choice get a room with a balcony the views are worth it. I haven't had a problem with the WiFi signal at all.

This budget hotel is located on a busy pedestrian walkway, Avenida Central. Arriving early in the morning, they granted me an early check-in to room 406. Totally exhausted, I got some much needed rest. Upon waking up, the noise from outside was deafening. It was as if I was in a room from HELL! There were no sleep options thereafter. Was moved the next day to a room in the back of the property. The noise level made for a far better night of rest. The room was large with two queen sized beds, nightstand, desk and plenty of places to store your clothing. There were difficulties associated with opening the safety deposit box. There is NO coffeemaker as advertised. The housekeeping staff is efficient supplying you with toiletries. THEY ARE HONEST! Breakfast is many choices. There is coffee, juice, and sliced fruits plus selections from their menu. You can book tours. Exchange money into Colones. The day shift person(6a-2p), JORGE, is OUTSTANDING. He speaks excellent English and will assist you in every way possible. You are right in a great location close to shops, museums, and restaurants. I would return.

Hotel El Maragato is on a bustling San Jose street lined with city shops (may or may not be closed with giant aluminum doors), restaurants, and locals out and about. The price was about 60 bucks for the least expensive room offered to us, which included two queen-sized beds, a minibar, and a balcony overlooking the bustling street. We slept fairly well. The front desk attendants were relaxed, helpful and friendly. We skipped the hotel breakfast after trying some fruit and finding it rather tasteless (shouldn't pineapple be yummy in Costa Rica?). My bf went so far as to say he was afraid of it (the breakfast). Nonetheless, the hotel was a great deal for the price and I would definitely stay there again.

can you bring guest to your rooms
Answer from mo_9287

I don't see why not. The front desk door is a buzz in. You have to be buzzed in by the clerk. Room is small. If staff is friendly, I don't think they would mind. But all hotels in San Jose have a. Additional guest fee for more than 2 people.
