Our family had a great stay in July, highly recommended aparthotel with breakfast. The excellence continued after we departed and the team let us know we’d left some valuables and cash in a drawer. Six months later I’ve just returned to the hotel and as promised it’s all waiting for me. Huge Thank you to Sergio, Karla and the housekeeping team. Very impressive and very classy all round, this is good place to stay. Pura Vida! Rowan & family, London
Suites Cristina offers an amazing amount of space for a reasonable price – way beyond what you can find at any hotel. That makes it a great home base for a multi-day stay in San Jose on business or pleasure. The units are quiet and clean and have everything you need – separate bedrooms, bathroom (shower), simple but complete kitchen, small eating area, and small couch/sitting area. The wifi works. The price includes an ample hot breakfast served in the courtyard by the small pool. A washer and dryer are available to use (buy tokens), or you can pay for a laundry service. A full-service Italian restaurant adjoins the hotel (through a small somewhat hidden passageway). Many of the clients are Costa Ricans and other Spanish-speakers who appreciate the great value compared to a tourist hotel. And a number of non-Spanish speaking gringos like us. Reception is open 24 hours, and the staff are very helpful with any request or information you need, in Spanish or English. The hotel is walking distance to the National Stadium, convenient if you are in town for a sporting event or rock concert. But tucked away on the side street, so the noise of the event never bothers your rest. A variety of restaurants can be found in the neighborhood – Chinese, fried and roasted chicken, Peruvian, panini, Spanish, Korean/Japanese, others. They are scattered down the side streets north of La Sabana park; you will have to explore a bit to find them. 5-15 minutes walk. So what’s wrong? Well, not wrong, but missing. Character and charm. The hotel is very plain. The furnishings are simple, functional, inexpensive. There is hardly any decoration or style. Some of the rooms need more light. They aren’t inviting spaces to spread out and read for hours, to relax and fill your soul. They are excellent as a home base, but you will want to spend your days out sightseeing, at special events, or doing whatever business brought you to San Jose.…
It was an unpleasant and annoying experience when I came with the booked transportation to check in the hotel. The driver wanted money for his service and I was convinced the service is still included - like it was when I stayed in the hotel earlier. I have no problem when I know something like this before, but it isn’t clearly communicated from the hotel. It’s a small line in the email confirmation saying transortation is not included (anymore) and even on the reservation form for the transport there is no mention of the taxi fare of USD 30,— at all. I also had to wait 20 Minutes for the driver to show up even I had to pay a regular fare and could have taken any available taxi right away from the airport. And then some unpleasant discussion with the driver who expected his money… All in all a very annoying experience after 20 hours travel time and for me the last time staying in this hotel. I always liked the stay and the rooms are good and with a fair price. But it’s kind of sad that the hotel has this new transportation policy and didn’t show any understanding or good will and didn’t waive the transportation fare in this case. So the overall experience was poor!…
We have stayed at the Cristina several times since it opened in the 90s. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the rates are good, and the staff is very friendly (and so hard-working). The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is that the breakfast could have a few more options for folks who don't want gallo pinto every morning.
We have stayed here many times. It's a very nice apartment-style hotel. We had a 2 bedroom, 1 bath unit. They also have a small, very tight garage, but it does get your car off the street. Breakfast is good and served outside by the pool. They have an Italian restaurant attached which is very good, but also pretty expensive. It's a short walk to the Park, where their national soccer stadium is located. It's a large park with a lot going on. The drive to the airport in the morning is about 25 minutes.
Excellent service, cleanliness, and very helpful staff. The location was safe and quiet. Was a little concerned about transport to the dentist, but that was dispelled with the use of Uber service. Keep up the good work. Advise about public busses at the corner on the Boulevard.
Always impeccably clean with the friendliest staff. Great location with plenty of amenities nearby. Perfect for medical tourism or enjoying a couple of days in the city. Huge bonus having a Central Park steps away, spent our free time soaking up the Costa Rican sun while enjoying the green space
Arrived late in the evening so didn't see much of the area but seemed that there was not much to eat/do around the hotel. Other than that we met a nice staff at the reception at the hotel. The checkin went fast and easy. Our room was big and spotlessly clean. The bed was huge and super comfy (for our taste). The bathroom was clean and had some soap we could use. The bathroom was a little bit small for our taste but it was ok for a night. Breakfast was great and was open for a long time. Had a lot of options to choose from and also brown bread. Pool seemed a little bit old and at a glance looked like it wasn't cleaned that morning. Other than that I really like that they do care for the environment and do some small changes where they can.
We really enjoyed our three night stay. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. All of the staff were so welcoming and the front desk team were fantastic. Breakfast was really good, with eggs freshly cooked and an excellent selection of other dishes, including fresh fruit and cooked items. We also had three very nice evenings out at great local restaurants and bars within walking distance (especially the really fun Cuban restaurant).
Although it was pretty obvious that we got one of the older and dated suites (look at the pictures), this place really had everything one could need. We were there two nights in a two bedroom unit. Full kitchen (except no coffee maker), two bathrooms, a/c, hairdryers, safe, digital tv with English option, free parking, good wifi...not luxurious but completely satisfying. The breakfast was ok - not as good as we anticipated based on the previous reviews and we didn't use the pool. It's the right price and I would recommend it.
