I only stayed one night here at the hostel but it was really great. Ask David about the history and architecture of the building. He is super knowledgeable and very helpful. My only bad thing is that the beds were super squeaky, so you could...More
The hostel is located close to the downtown, so it's easy to walk anywhere. The owner, David was super cool and helpful. I visit San Jose quite often, and will definitely stay in this hostel next time too.
Clean, accomodating, great location for buses out of SJO. It was pretty quiet and seemed to be mostly travellers as opposed to partyers. The people at the front desk were great. Nice bed. Big sitting area in kitchen is really nice and sort of outdoors.
This place is pretty cool and the staff are amazingly helpful and knowledgeable about the area and how to get where you need to go. It is also really close to transport (many nearby bus stations). The place needs a few repairs and could be...More
Booked this hostel through Airbnb and it was great! It was really close to the downtown core. The owner, David, was super accommodating as well! Clean hostel with a kitchenette and washer/dryer. I would definitely stay here again if I was ever in San Jose.
That makes us special is that we are a well organized, relaxed hostel in a cool and safe area. It is a small and personal hostel - but professionally managed. We offer a lot of extras for our guests without great expense, all at very affordable prices, besides Hostel Van Gogh is close to everything!, Just 15 min walk from the city center and surrounded by cultural venues and excellent nightlifeHostel Van Gogh... A place to be!!..

There's a bus that goes to San Jose downtown. It's safe and easy. It goes from the International airport to downtown in around 30 min (but depends on the traffic). The bus station, the last stop, is a few blocks walking from the hostel. I did during the day and took me no more than 20 min. The only point is that these blocks on downtown is quite busy during the day but may seem a bit dodgy at night. If so just take a cab from the bus station to the hostel.
