Guests who check-in starting January 15th at the Castillo Hotel will notice many changes from the previous hotel property. Along with a new third floor, the fully remodeled Castillo is equipped with balcony suites offering an outstanding view of the upscale Barrio Amon neighborhood. Three of the penthouse suites open onto 4th floor rooftop decks. Additions to the property bring the number of rooms to 29. Consistent with the design of the original Castillo, the remodeling reflects the 19th century style of the privileged Costa Rica coffee barons, complete with wood paneled floors in the bedrooms and tiled common areas. Each room has been fully refurnished with Ashley Furniture, including a Simmons Beauty Rest pillow-top mattress.

Beautiful hotel, wide open and open air bar/restaurant area so it can get chilly at night. I had a penthouse room so the extra space and rooftop balcony was amazing as you will see in photos! Ernesto, Cooks, bartenders and all managers Rudy and Matt the owner are great and try their best to provide quality service and even ask for any complaints or what can be fixed! Great job can’t wait to check out the sister hotel La Amistad. This area is perfect walking to Sportsman lodge or Taormina casino\hotel too! Great times!!!

The people here exceed friendly. Not noisy at all, very comfortable. Ernesto, the manager is very nice and easy to work with. He went and got my luggage from the sister hotel for me and he called around to find my medicine. The hotel has been renovated and for just $10 more a night you can drink and eat breakfast lunch and dinner for free.

Just returned from spending a week in Costa Rica and I must say I had a great time. The hotel staff treated me like family though it was the first time I stayed there. Currently if you book 4 nights or more for 10.00 a day they feed you breakfast lunch and dinner and include beer/wine/well drinks. This is a adult hotel! Room was always clean, staff were always helpful, I will stay at this hotel again.

This is a great hotel, perhaps one of the best I have ever been to. The staff is very nice and the restaurant serves excellent food, particularly the pork roast. And the room are much more spacious than seen in the pictures. I recommend staying here if you ever come to San Jose, CR.

La Amistad was perfect except for the train noise, so decided to try this sister property. Staff is the best! Very clean! laundry service free and professional! All-inclusive is unbeatable! $10. a day for one person. Food and drinks are very good. Only issue I had was when i eat a full breakfast I want potatos. They are on the menu at both properties but never available. Food is tasty and very well prepared. Even though CR produces best coffee in the world, castillo coffee is not the best. Same with most places around CR, i guess the good stuff is exported. I would have no problem taking all of my meals on property if there weren't so many other incredible options. Yes it might not be the hotel for some couples or families as some of the gentlemen has local female companionship, but nothing is very in your face. Staying there over Thanksgiving.

I recently enjoyed a delightful 4-night stay in Penthouse #2 while taking advantage of the all-inclusive package. I honestly cannot say enough good about this wonderfully redesigned hotel. Friendly, impeccable staff will do everything possible to ensure your stay meets all your expectations. From check-in to check-out, a wonderful experience.

Room Tip: The very large furnished balconies of the penthouses are well worth the extra cost.

I stayed at the Castillo Hotel March 1st through March 5th of this year. I stayed in Penthouse #1 (Zoo). It was very spacious. The room was $179 per night and I added the all-inclusive plan for just $10 more per night. The room features a private balcony overlooking the city with great views looking West and north. The all-inclusive deal is a no-brainer in my opinion. For just $10 more per night I was able to have a made-to-order breakfast comprised of eggs that could be ordered fried scrambled or omelette style, breakfast meat like sausage or bacon, pancakes, french toast...you get the idea; of course coffee, fresh fruit and juice was also included. The lunch and dinner menu were one in the same with the chef fixing whatever you would like in almost any fashion you prefer. The all-inclusive option provides for an appetizer, entree and dessert for lunch and for dinner; not to mention all of your well-brand drinks, beer and wine are also included and of course sodas and things like that. Premium Liquors and call brands are available at a 50% discount. I highly recommend the chicken soup and the tomato soup as an appetizer. The chicken parmesan was delicious and I ate that for lunch and dinner on the same day. I also enjoyed the hummus. The chicken kabobs were also delectable. I'm not real big on sweets but I did have a slice of the key lime pie and it was quite good. I was surprised at how good the local beer was. I enjoyed Imperial brand beer and Imperial light was my favorite. The key Point here is that the $10 daily all-inclusive fee is easily attainable with just one meal or a couple of drinks. What's more, the same owner also owns a nearby hotel called La Amistad and the all-inclusive is reciprocated at either property. If you feel like changing it up as I did on at least one occasion you take a five or six minute walk to the other hotel and you have an entirely different menu for your selection. This is an adult-only hotel. Most of the hotel guests were middle-aged men or older. The hotel does not charge a guest fee, but the all-inclusive plan will not apply to any guests. Female companions (pros) are welcome at the hotel by invitation from guests and or management only. Unsolicited visitation is not allowed and an electronic gate keeps them out and is supervised 24 hours a day. I heard the regular rooms were also very comfortable but I highly recommend getting one of the three rooftop balcony Suites, with P1 being the best. Some of the repeat customers enjoyed another room called the pool room the best. No, it does not have a swimming pool but it used to be an area of the mansion that housed a billiard table. Matt, the owner, does an excellent job of ensuring his staff looks out for the guests in every way possible. Leo at the entry/front desk is awesome...as are Ernesto and Monica behind the bar. Another perk that I received was a complimentary taxi cab ride back to the airport on the day of my departure; my understanding is that this service is available to Guests who booked a minimum for night stay. I would recommend that you negotiate your final hotel bill using cash instead of credit card; you will save some money that way. The INS building is very close. It has two ATM machines that I walked to in just about 3 minutes. Book your stay at the Castillo Hotel. You won't regret it. If you cannot climb steps then this may not be a good idea especially for the penthouse Suites as they are on the third floor with no elevator available. I thought it was a great way to add a little extra exercise on a daily basis.

We stayed here on our last day of our trip. Everyone here at the hotel really took care of us, even the chef. I took a cab to the airport in the morning $20 but Uber is there and it would of been cheaper. Thank you Ernesto, Leo, and the Chef. Oh and the bed was extremely comfortable.

We stopped over one night in San Jose on our way to Jaco to go fishing and stayed at the Hotel Castillo In Barrio Amon. Could not have asked for a better place. $89 for a single room, $10 up charge for the all inclusive, $111 per night total with tax but well worth it with the all-inclusive deal. The food was fantastic, the room was clean, cold and the staff was extremely friendly Will definitely be back here again... quite a bargain with the all-inclusive deal.
