Tobacco Caye Paradise Cabins is a small Belizean-own lodge with six private "over the water" beach cabanas. All cabanas face north to the Belize Barrier Reef and have wonderful decks perched over turquoise tropical waters. Each deck has a hammock and an amazing view of the Caribbean Sea. We also offer Budget accommodation for those backpacking around the world. Accommodations are clean, comfortable and charmingly rustic. Cabanas have private bathrooms and rainwater-fed showers. While there is no electric or water utilities on the island, however, we collect our own rainwater and generate our own electricity from solar and generator (when necessary) power. We have wi-fi access on the island, as well. Delicious meals are available in the dining hall, where you can dine with fellow travelers and share the day's adventures.
Wow! Nothing I can write here will do a visit to Tobacco Caye justice. An amazingly small island, 30 minutes by speedboat from the mainland, with awesome views, sunrises and sunsets, and cute places to stay over the water. Tobacco Caye Paradise was just one of those places. Tucked on the end of the island it has an position which makes it have more of a private, community feel compared to some f the other lodgings on the island which stretch from side to side across its width. The cabins are great, over the water and rays swim past regularly, with pelicans fishing for their dinner swooping down too. Our cabin was fine for two nights, though due to a slight mix up and it having one double bed, rather than the two singles we had booked, they had to squeeze a single bed in, meaning very little room for our cases and bags. But then we really weren't in there much, other than to sleep! Food is good with 3 meals a day provided and wifi is adequate too. No air con but there is a fan and the shower, although only running cold water, was plenty warm enough and slightly refreshing as the sun warmed the water up well. 2 bars in the other resorts on the island gave sun set views and drinks were reasonable prices. Lots of activities to do - renting snorkel gear, kayaks, arranging dive trips etc. But really you might just want to relax in a hammock for a couple of days! Absolutely loved this little island and wouldn't hesitate to return, if only there were not other places on my wish list....!

We stayed for 8 days at paradise in a cabana over the water. The cabins are like a boat, as in – from three sides you are surrounded by ocean. The view is sublime and reading is bliss. The adirondacks can use a few pillows to make them comfortable so we pulled a few from our room. Enjoy the huge rays that float by, the mesmerizing, crashing waves beyond the reef – and be glad the reef separates you from that wild ocean.
The vibe is like an adult summer camp and we definitely met people – interesting people, and trading stories at meals was fun. The accommodations are spartan, but after 3 days we realized that we had everything we need; the bed was comfortable, the showers are chilly but a cowboy shower isn't hard to get used to and there is an amazing view in every inch of your tiny, wooden cabana.
The meals are fresh, hearty and very accommodating to dietary requests. More fish would have been ideal. The the staff is great! So friendly and helpful.
Swimming is not ideal on the island. The reef lagoon is very shallow so swimming is best down by Reef's Edge (a very short walk) and the reef out there is good for snorkeling. But to really see Belize I suggest excursions. We did 2 day excursions with Nolan and Noble (who are on the island) and I can't say enough about how wonderful these 2 fellas are. They are knowledgeable and safe and we felt completely safe in the open ocean snorkeling in deep water. Noble educated us on wildlife (I loved that) and we saw sharks, manatee, crocodiles (in the mangroves), eel, brightly colored fish and thankfully they never dump food in the water to attract fish which I think is a poor practice.
The reefs we saw off Tobacco Caye were the healthiest we have ever seen! Truly beautiful but an excursion is needed to get there.
Overall, I would say Paradise is a rustic gem, a throwback, and you don't see that often. It's a place to go to truly get away and get off the grid, although our wifi was just fine. Don't come here expecting a resort experience. Expect simplicity, beauty and long days of leisure and a view that will knock your socks off!

We stayed in this resort for three days as part of a Rainforest and Reef Explorer package from Island Expeditions.
The cabins are right on the shore, over the water. It's fascinating to watch the fish and junk drift by: large eagle rays, a very large southern stingray, lots of small yellow stingrays, lots of other smaller fish and coconuts and logs and some garbage drift by your porch. The sea bottom is fairly rough here, so you can't swim from most of the cabins, but it's a short walk to a safe place to enter the water, and the snorkelling is great (except when big waves come from the wrong direction and stir things up too much). The resort also offers SCUBA dives, but we didn't try those. The people who did liked them.
The food is served buffet style: everyone at the resort eats at the same times. I liked the fish the best; we didn't have enough of it. We also had BBQ chicken (which was very good), beef in a stew which tasted good, but I would rather have had more seafood. Some people who had gone on a paid excursion got to eat the lobsters they caught.
The cabins have open windows, with adjustable slats for privacy and to keep the rain out. Noises from the other cabins are audible, but weren't a bother to me.
It was a really enjoyable stay. The only negatives are that Tobacco Cay is so crowded with resorts now. It's a tiny island (only around 200m long), with 4 resorts. I like the wilderness more, and this is like being in a little town.

I visited Tobacco in February 2021 and had the time of my life. Tobacco Caye Paradise is a little resort in the Stann Creek district which is half hour by boat, a nice ride at that. The cabanas are half pertruding into the sea and half on the beach, there is no need for AC and surprisingly there are no mosquitos on the island. The cabanas are clean use rain water for flushing and bathing and if you like keeping the environment healthy the use of solar electricity is used in the entire resort. The staff is friendly and courteous and relaxation and peace of mind is best so evident that its difficult to describe. Our package included the hotel rooms and three meals so if you are the type of traveller who loves sand, sea and sun then check out Tobacco Caye Paradise for your stress free vacation. Did I mention the caye is actually a part of the Great Barrier Reef!

Everyone was very accommodating and always smiling. The food was delicious and flexible if you have diet restrictions. They use filtered rain water on the island, which was a huge relief for those who have had intestinal issues from other countries' water supply. The shacks are cozy with amazing views from the porch. There are working toilets and showers in each. There are 2 bars on the island that accept USD and Belizean as well as CC. These were some of the best drinks that I've ever had. Kirk is the man.
The ocean is stunning with the reef in your backyard and water temps felt like 80 degrees in May. Tons of snorkeling opportunities! My wife and I had the best time here and will definitely be going back. Thank you everyone for your wonderful hospitality and for sharing your island dream with us!

Our family of 4 stayed in two cabanas over the water. We were met on the dock by the lovely Doreen who runs the property. The six over-water cabanas are small and rustic but clean and comfortable and it is all about the balcony over the water. Relax on the balcony in the chairs or the hammock, grab a good book and watch the sea birds (particularly frigates and pelicans) and rays drift by. No daily cleaning, which we had grown accustomed to during our holiday. The inclusive meals have a homemade feel but are very tasty and more than adequate. The island is tiny, with a couple of beach bars from where you can also snorkel, paddle board and dive. Equipment is available for hire from Doreen. Bring everything with you - there are no shops. This was a great place to spend the last couple of days for our holiday.

We had a wonderful stay at Tobacco Caye Paradise. The parent company (Island Expeditions) communicated clearly regarding logistics such as getting to the island and and getting back to the mainland and airport, and assisted in setting this up. We had great snorkeling adventures right outside our cabana and around the island, including the guided night snorkel. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Meals were plentiful, varied and delicious. Having a cabana with a balcony over the water allowed us to watch rays and other marine life right from our accommodation. Cabanas are quaint and, as advertised, there aren't any amenities such as television (no problem for us), but washrooms were very clean and staff changed our towels and bedding regularly. When we first arrived, we wondered if we would be able to fill a whole week there, but had no problem doing so. The time went too quickly. Lynn was particularly pleased with the amount of underwater photography she was able to do in the crystal-clear waters. We highly recommend Tobacco Caye Paradise and will be recommending it to friends.

Our stay was okay. The beds were squeaky if you moved an inch and very uncomfortable beds.
The views were awesome. Watching the stingrays swim by as you look over the crystal clear turquoise water was amazing.
The food was awesome. Loved every one. It was fairly quiet in the evening besides other guests staying up and drinking. The morning came very early as the generator would fire up. Understandable because no power on the island. Just a little noisy. No hot water. So the showers were a little chilly.
Snorkeling alone out in the reef was pretty cool. Saw a lot of fish in and out of the coral. It was a little swim from the island to get out to the reef. It was about 75 yards from main land. That’s how far you had to go to see the 🪸 reef.
The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The boat ride was okay if you sit to the back of the boat. Another group got soaked coming back to the main land.
Not sure if I would go back.

We booked an over the water cabaña and it was just so perfect for what we needed and wanted. The island is lovely but the people are the ones making this island truly special. We initially booked through Antonio, then later met Doreen, and upon arriving the island we met Rugged and Kirk and the cooks who treated us like family! We really cant complain, they went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed. With our cabaña being over the water, we got to see stingrays at anytime of the day and night! We also admired the fishermen cleaning conchs and feeding the stingrays around 3pm everyday. My fiancè went fishing and had a great time, we all went night snorkeling with the marine station and it was quiet fun and educational. The food was always super delicious and most of the time was buffet style. The sunset from kirks bar was absolutely gorgeous. To our surprise there are 2 more properties in the island besides paradise and 2 bars. The island is a bit bigger than what we expected but mein we loved staying at paradise! We will definitely return, next time with our entire family!

My wife and I had a fantastic sea-kayak/snorkel based trip to Tobacco Caye. We couldn’t have been happier with our decision to stay at Tobacco Caye Paradise and use Island Expeditions to help coordinate our stay and sea-kayak usage. We were able to kayak up and down the reef and even to other islands. We enjoyed our stay in the cabana and the delicious meals. The staff was amazing. We highly recommend using Mel L’heureux at Island Expeditions (partner with Paradise) to set up your trip! The double kayak we used from them was sea worthy with a good rudder and good skirts which were necessary where we went. They sent us nautical maps of the reef and the islands around.
