if you would be willing to be out of your room from 9 am to 5 pm. So you could save 100 dollars or more per night than the hostile is your place. Just 12 dollars a night Juneau's best kept secret. Great staff quite a few blocks to a store so bring what you need very quiet and friendly....

My stay at the hostile was horrible. Upon entering it looked nice outside but when inside I'll briefly describe what it's like. When walking in it smells bad, like a smokers house. The furniture is old. They didn't allow us to bring our own sleeping bags or blankets cause they provided us with some. The ones provided where old and...

I appreciate that they are only $12, you can't beat that and it's hard to complain. But be aware what you are getting into. 1.) They are closed from 9am to 5pm and if you are staying more than one day you don't have access to your stuff if you leave it inside. Yes, they boot you out at 9am...

This hostel is centrally located within walking distance of central Juneau while maintaining the charm of a small house — it's also right next to some of the prettiest hiking in the area. Dorm beds are $12 a night — and prices are kept low through chores done by visitors. Run by a non-profit and staffed very well. Easily the...

Staff holds visitors to rules and this keeps the place rolling along smoothly. Clean bathrooms, easy laundry on site and they supply deregent. Easy safe and free room outside for short-term storage. Buses are close and take the bus to Deharts gas station via the express bus. Next, hitch hike towards eagle glacier. So many places to get out and...

This is the cleanest hostel I've ever stayed in, due in no small part to their system of having guests do a chore for each night they stay. There are signs EVERYWHERE in order to keep guests conducting their behavior appropriately, but I suppose in the absence of actual staff, it's necessary. It makes the whole place seem a little...stiff?...

On balance this is a good place to stay, but there are some differences to regular hostels which you want to be aware of. On the plus side: the price is amazing, $12 a night! It's a converted house so pleasant and homey surroundings, very clean, very secure, quiet and in a good location near the centre of town. The...

Cozy, very clean and great kitchen! The location is downtown and close to bus line. Free access to a computer and the Internet was a nice perk. When I was there, it was winter and very quiet. I can't comment on how it would be during peak time. Check in times are very specific! Their website says it all. Based...

This is the first hostel I have ever stayed at. I was only there for a night but it was clean and everyone was considerate. The only downside is it is community run which means that they don't open till 5 or a little after when the staff gets off work from their day jobs. The staff was very polite...

If you can live with the limitations and if what you want is clean, affordable, NO FRILLS lodging in Juneau, it's nice to have the Juneau International Hostel as an option. It is not equivalent to a hotel in convenience or amenities but the location is convenient, price is very affordable, and you will meet and talk to interesting people...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Juneau Hostel is a non-profit, volunteer-run, public service to provide affordable accommodation for travelers and the families from the outlying communities of Southeast Alaska. Because we are volunteer-run, we have day jobs, which is why we have the 9-5 lock-out, and which is why we are particular about everybody leaving at 9. We have to go to work. The 11 pm curfew ensures quiet, safe, family-oriented accommodation. The gender segregated dorm rooms have no more than 8 beds in the largest room. Yes, the beds are uncomfortable, but you won’t find cleaner or safer accommodations anywhere in the world. In addition, we provide linens, towels, wifi, unlimited hot water, a kitchen and comfortable common area and coin-operated laundry facilities. We are open 350 days a year and the managers live onsite with children. ... more   less
