Do not use cedars lodge for your fish processing you will be shorted, Turned in a minimum of 80 pounds Pacific Cod and got back 9. Unfortunately we did not weigh our catch as it was delivered through our fishing excursion Baronoff. Neither company is interested in doing anything about it, So this is just a word of warning to anyone that will be fishing in ketchikan. I have been fishing for over 40 years and I am a very good judge of the weight of fish we were totally shorted.
We were traveling through the Inside Passage on the Disney Wonder, and we were blessed to have met Captain Kirk and Captain Tom at the Cedar Lodge. At Berth 3, we stumbled upon the great sea bird for an amazing tour of Ketchikan flying over the waters around Pennock Island. The ride was out of this world and smooth on a "lamborghini" of the sea. I would recommend to boldly go on this adventure!
This was our eleventh year fishing with Alaska Fishing Expeditions in Ketchikan. It was our first time at the Cedars Lodge. The lodge is very comfortable and the food was the best. We enjoyed the staff and their accomidating nature. A special thanks to Syd and Russell Thomas. We had some confusion with our arrival date and arrived late. They made some adjustments and put together a package that worked perfictaly for our group of four. We stayed and fished for a week. This certainly ranks high in our best trips to Alaska.
We fished with Baronoff Excursions and they used Cedars Lodge as their processor. When I picked up my fish to take on the plane it was very well packaged and made it home still fully frozen. However upon opening the box I found that we were missing our second days catch. I called and talked to Syd at the front desk. She was very helpful and found our second box of fish that they didn't give us when we left. They shipped it to us for free. Their packaging is very well done and labelled as to what fish you are eating.
My son and I used Cedars lodge for processing our catch from two days of fishing with Baranof Excursions in Ketchikan. (Baranof was great, by the way). Our catch included 3 nice Halibut, one 37 inch King, a 36 inch Lingcod and about 12 rockfish. Cedars Lodge did a perfect job of filleting, vacuum sealing, flash freezing and packing our fish (in airline-approved insulated boxes) for pickup the morning of our departure. We ended up with slightly over 50 lbs of fillets, all still frozen solid without any hint of thawing after 9 hours transit home on Alaska Airlines. Each frozen fillet package of 1 to 1.5 lbs was labeled according to fish species, and the quantities and fish types matched exactly what we were expecting, given what we caught. Total cost was $140----far below what we expected. I think some of the negative reviews I've read may be attributable to performance of the companies (Fedex ?, etc.) used to ship fish home separately---- which of course is beyond the control of Cedar's Lodge once it leaves Ketchikan. Best choice would be to pick up and transport your processed fish home yourself, if possible.…
