Retreated to Ketchikan for 5 days for some peace and relaxation. I couldn't have picked a better place to stay. Nicole and her husband Jim were very hospitable and welcoming into their bed and breakfast. Every day we would say "I love this bed!" and slept so well throughout the night. The views were literally breathtaking. Though the choices for dining and shopping were small since we visited during the off season, their recommendations on where to go sightseeing and eating were spot on. I don't think my trip would've been the same staying somewhere else. Until next time, thank you again Nichole and Jim.

My wife and I stayed at the Inn August 17-20, 2021. The property is very clean and quiet with nice views of the narrows and ocean. The owners, Nicole and Jim, are really nice people who are very knowledgeable about what to do and see in Ketchikan. They are always available for a chat but respect your privacy. We stayed in the Homestead Suite on the ground floor with great views and access to a quaint porch. The suite also had access to a wonderful great room and well appointed kitchen. Jim made us eggs every morning with fresh fruit, bagels and cream cheese. While there we strolled the town, went fishing for salmon and halibut, hiked nearby, and viewed bears dining on salmon in the river at low tide. Nicole gave us excellent recommendations on dining in town and at Salmon Falls Lodge. This was the best place we stayed on our 2 week trip to the Kenai and the inner passage.

We made our reservations expecting to hide from the world for a few days, but Nicole and Jim made us feel so at home that we were comfortable chatting with our hosts as well as other guests. The breakfast was always plentiful and delicious. As for the location, it was amazing. A car is required for a stay in Ketchikan anyway, so the Black Bear Inn was perfect. We could drive into town or into the woods in a matter of minutes. I don't understand why anyone would choose to stay at a motel in the center of town when there are so many things to do and see on the island if you have a car. I would rather wake up to hear the ocean outside my window and drink my morning coffee watching the birds than to hear the sounds downtown. We cannot wait to return.

Warning - definitely add extra days to your trip to properly enjoy this property !! I’m not kidding. Ketchikan is a fun town especially if your staying at Black Bear Inn. This place is extraordinary …. There is absolutely not one thing not thought of. Every detail is addressed !!!! Our room had a beautiful glassed in patio with a fridge, bistro table and chairs, an adorable single bed AND a hot chocolate bar … and that was just our adjoining patio !! Our bedroom was luxurious - the sheets and bed were so comfortable and the bathroom was large with a huge soaking tub. The best “room” is the outdoor patio seating !! Beautiful gardens surround decks with tables that over look the water. It’s peaceful and serine - such a beautiful inn. The owners, Nicole and Jim are so kind and helpful !! They helped us with shipping our fish box - (Jim’s awesome idea and offer) fantastic suggestions on dining and shopping - and also provided a wonderful fresh fruit, pastry and coffee breakfast !!! Nicole is a true patriot… you’ll find her delightful in conversation - witty and informed. She’s an artist at heart and each room reflects her passion and love for the Inn. ( I got to sneak a peak at other rooms ) Black Bear Inn is SO special … no doubt. That’s why we would suggest adding extra days just to stay there and enjoy Ketchikan. Black Bear Inn is a magic place that enchanted and reminded us to slow down and just enjoy the moment.

Well, TripAdvisor, this is my THIRD attempt to leave a review with your new platform so it won’t be nearly as detailed as my first… Thrilled with black bear inn and Nicole and Jim, less so with my experience with the new app…. Nicole and Jim were incredibly gracious, making last minute accommodation change due to an issue with the hotel booking site (which in turn used another third party processor, which transmitted incorrect info to the inn). Nicole even provided a phone number to have pizza delivered to be waiting for us when our flight was unexpectedly delayed for 4 hours, and they even picked us up and dropped us off at the airport ferry. Poor jim even ran back for us when one of my littles left their backpack in his truck. The apartment was cozy, charming and lovely, with everything we could need and a lovely view of the water and sunsets, fully equipped kitchen and private entrance. Support and care of a b&b but independence of an inn. Really appreciate all that Nicole and Jim did to smooth out the bumps of our trip. Their home is an absolutely lovely home away from home for your time in Ketchikan. Plan to rent a car or plan on a taxi to and from town - if you plan to go in and out more than once a day, prob do well to rent if you commit in time.
