This was our third Time at Saltery Lake Lodge (2013, 2015, and now 2016). I won’t go into much detail compared to the reviews that I wrote for previous visits and try to concentrate on any differences. Note: Sometimes when searching, the map will show the Office location on Lilly Lake in Kodiak City. You actually fly out of Kodiak... More

I belong to Buckeye United Fly Fishers, a fly fishing club in Cincinnati. I am the guy who often gets skunked or maybe catches a few small trout on club trips to the Smokies. So I was a little apprehensive about doing a trip all the way to Kodiak. Wow, am I glad that I went. A club friend and... More

I just returned from my 5th trip to Saltery Lake Lodge for salmon fishing. Absolutely my favorite destination. My title summarizes the experience well I think. This place is suitable for the accomplished fly fisherman, or a novice fisherman. And the staff are efficient, helpful and knowledgeable.

We visited Saltery Lake Lodge July 12 through 18, 2015. This is the second time here for my son and I. Our first time was in 2013. My dad has been to this lodge about four times. My dad brought his buddy and this was his first time. UNIQUE EXPERIENCE You fly into a remote lodge and it’s just beautiful.... More

There is really no way to describe how amazing this lodge is but I will try my best. My family and I booked 5 days here for a family reunion trip. From the moment you land at the lodge via float plane you realize you've just begun the quintessential Alaskan adventure. The lodge is quaint, rustic and nestled perfectly along... More

Wow, where to begin... First of all, I will start by agreeing with everything the previous 8 reviewers have said! This place is that good! My only disagreement is the comment that there is not much to do here if you don't fish, I feel that couldn't be further from the truth! If you have a camera and/or eyeballs you... More

This has been my 3rd trip to remote Saltery Lake Lodge located on Kodiak Island, Alaska. As with previous trips, the experience was excellent. This year's trip took place the last week of July. We were picked up at the Kodiak City airport and taken to the floatplane for the 30-minute flight to Saltery Lake, the location of the lodge.... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Just being here is an adventure! We offer a variety of exciting activities to make sure your stay with us will be a vacation of a lifetime. We are the only lodge, or structure for that matter, on Saltery Lake, which is located on Kodiak Island about 2 miles from Ugak Bay and Saltery Cove, a true wilderness setting. We have four salmon rivers which are accessible from the lodge by foot or four-wheel-drive vehicle. Getting here is only a 15 minute flight from the City of Kodiak in our floatplane which provides transportation to and from the lodge as part of your week long package. No extra charter fees apply!Naturally, fly fishing is our most popular activity, but these fish can be caught on conventional spinning gear any time. Our guides are happy to assist you with instruction, flies, lures, licenses and camaraderie as desired, and will fillet, freeze, and pack any fish you wish to take home. We enjoy huge runs of Silver (Coho), Red (Sockeye), Pink (Humpy) and Chum (Keta) Salmon in Saltery River, Ugak Bay and Saltery Lake. Dolly Varden and Rainbow Trout are always in abundance. For lucky anglers, Steelhead Trout will be found early and late in the season, and Starry Flounder can be caught from the beach!Other popular activities include hiking, viewing or photographing abundant wildlife. Bald eagles, waterfowl, Sitka Blacktail Deer, red and silver fox, and Kodiak Brown Bear are prevalent. Unique to Saltery Cove, wild horses and bison are now common visitors!Saltery Lake Lodge is simply the best location and salmon fishing in Alaska! ... more   less

“All cabins are duplex in format, comfortable and quiet. You do share a wall with your neighbor, which we never heard. Each half of duplex is a large room with beds, a small table and chairs. A small bathroom with a shower is part of each room. Some rooms have better views of the lake than others. All are remote from the main lodge.”
