Based on the photos I saw, I was a bit skeptical about going to RW’s. I was pleasantly surprised by the level of cleanliness, and the supplies in the room. All the basics are there, coffee maker (no coffee) toaster, pots, pans, silverware, and cookware. It has a dishwasher although tiny (we used it as a drying rack) and soap for dishes, hand and body soap for the restroom. You’ll need to pick up some shampoo. Waders and fishing poles available to rent. And outside our back door was the Kenai River w ample area to fish and a fire pit. Chairs and tables are outside and you can sit on the deck and watch the rain, or the fishing or the seagulls and eagles. We even saw seals cruising the river. Judy and RW arranged all our excursions- and they were a blast! (I don’t actually enjoy fishing- but the scenery is spectacular and we didn’t have to wait long for a bite on any excursion.). The fly out was amazing- we saw bears, eagles and caught our limit with ease. Halibut fishing was good too- however none of the giants that you see on tv were landed. Drifting for king salmon was fun as well. There were restrooms on the halibut boats, and places along the river to stop for bathroom breaks also- the fly out had no facilities but the guides were mindful of the ladies on the trip and would land the boat in a private area. We came in mid July and it rained quite a bit- w temps in the 50’s most days (sometimes 60’s) so bring rain gear- tops and bottoms. Also I should’ve brought my waterproof backpack but forgot it. (Live and learn) Lots of fun- I highly recommend it- …
Husband and I stayed the 2nd week of August flying into Anchorange and renting a car. The rooms are clean and comfortable. We chose RW's because we wanted to be able to cook some of the fish the day we caught them and not have to eat on a schedule. Rooms have kitchens with microwave, range/oven, fridge, dishwasher. Each room has a grill outside. Plenty of clean towels everyday, and I especially liked the extra heat switch in the bathroom. Soldotna is 4 miles away with 2 good grocery stores, each with a Starbucks, and several good restaurants. Fishing packages vary; we had 2 Kenai river salmon trips right from RW;s, a float plane trip, and 2 Homer halibut fishing trips. The fishing trips are set up for you, you just show up where and when they tell you. The Kenai is right out your front door and you can fish there whenever you want, after all your fishing trips. Your fish are cleaned, filleted, packaged and frozen and boxed for your trip home. RW's guides are knowledgeable, helpful and fun. We especially enjoyed our guide Reed. Our float plane was with Alaska West to a river across Cook Inlet. They provided you with waders if you didn't have any. The guides and pilots were all helpful and made sure everyone had a good time. Our Homer halibut trips were with Rainbow tours. Again, the crew made sure everyone had a good time and had a chance to catch fish. There's a laundry room with washers and dryers (takes quarters, change available at office) and soap is provided. Take a hair dryer if you need one. You might find some salt, pepper, coffee filters, etc. in your kitchen. Staff is friendly and very helpful. We enjoyed watching the mama moose and her 2 calves wandering on the property one evening. Writing this makes me want to go back to RW's for more fishing.…
This is my second visit to RWs, and another great trip. RW has probably the best set up on the river. Large and comfortable condos for between 2-7 people (I wouldn't put more that 4 but it can be done). Full kitchen with everything you need and BBQs and tables outside for each unit. The rooms have a nice large but single bathroom, one room with a queen bed and three singles upstairs. There is also a fold out couch bed. The salmon fishing is done from his own private dock right next to the condos. They also clean and process all of your fish on site. Best of all they have a large bank to fish from and rent poles if you need. Half of the fish we brought back came from the river bank.
RW's is the best of the best. They have facilities that can accommodate any size group as well as special needs. Located on the Kenai River with some of the best bank fishing available. RW is one of the best guides and guide services on the river. You won't be disappointed.
Stayed at RW's for a week at the end of June to early July. The property is well maintained, clean, and accommodating. The room was spacious and the housekeeping staff came daily to empty trash and tidy up a bit. The king salmon fishing with a guide was non-productive. We did however, see fish being caught in several areas of the river. The halibut charter used by RW's is a party boat with approximately 20-25 people fishing. The 1 1\2 hour boat ride takes you out to an area that the sea floor must be carpeted with smallish halibut so everyone on board usually gets their limit rather quickly. The fly-out trip was the best part of the entire stay. You fly to Wolverine Creek, catch your limit of sockeye salmon, and, if you're lucky as we were, see bears chasing fish close to your boat. The flight back was a tour over an impressive glacier and bear/moose viewing on the flats. Fishing from shore at RW's can be very good at times. We caught sockeye and jack salmon consistently from shore (even lost a very big king). Overall, we had a pleasurable trip to RW's and would probably stay there again.…
